  • This study was aimed at exploring the parenting experience of fathers in single parent families as well as comprehensively determining their parenting experiences and the various parenting resources and support systems that have emerged in the process. The subjects were five divorced fathers who had not remarried and had been raising their children on their own. This qualitative case study involved data collect through in-depth interviews. The inter-case analyses derived two topics, five categories, and 17 concepts related to the issues of interest. The results indicated, that, first, there was "psychological confusion in the early stages of parenting" because of the sudden onset of this responsibility after divorce. Second, in the parenting experience, the fathers felt that "family survival was at stake". Third the support systems that the fathers had in raising single parent families were "social resources" made available through workplaces, acquaintances, institutions, and the government. Such systems also took the form of "family resources" including brothers and parents. An "internal resource" was the presence of children along with psychological sources of support, such as responsibility and the satisfaction experienced by the fathers through parenting. This study, uncovered the reality, resources, and support systems of fathers in single families. It is meaningful in that it will serve as a basis for supporting practical measures and educational interventions for fathers in single-parent households.

  • This study attempted to understand awareness for the overall need of family counseling and aims at providing a direction of support for family counseling that is leveled at married immigrant women and their families. To achieve this, this study analyzed data from the 2010 National Multicultural Families Survey, which was conducted by the Ministry of Health and Welfare. Frequency, distribution, and hierarchical multipleregression analyses on demographic variables, Korean language skills, social support, satisfaction of family relations, and experience of family counseling were conducted in view that these were factors that affected awareness for family counseling, with a total of 58,072 immigrant women who came to Korea. The results of this study are as follows: First, Korean language skills, social support, satisfaction of family relations, the study revealed that subjects recognized the need for family counseling as moderate and their Korean language skills were also moderate. Social supporters did not exceed more than two people including from both Koreans and their country natives, and subjects were satisfied with the relationships to their spouse, children, and parents in-law. Second, there were differences in opinion between the nationalities of the married immigrant women regarding the need for family counseling. Third, the following is the result of the influence of the awareness of the need for family counseling based on the demographic variables of the existence or non-existence of Korean language ability, social support, satisfactory family relationships and previous experience of family counseling.

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate the actual conditions and causes of the problem behaviors of Korean Chinese'left-behind'children in China in order to propose a support system to prevent problem behaviors of them. For this purpose, a questionnaire survey was conducted on 399 children who attend at three Korean Chines schools in Yonbian in China. The questionnaire consisted of general characteristics, internalizing problem behavior, social support, self-esteem, and self-resilience. This paper analysed the survey data by employing one-way ANOVA and a structural equation modeling. It verified if there is significant difference in internalizing problem behaviour, self-esteem, self-resilience, and social support between left-behind children's group and non left-behind children's group. It also identified a structural causal relationship and direct or indirect effects among problematic behaviour, self-esteem, self-resilience, and social support. The results of the analysis are as follows. First, there was a statistically significant difference in the social withdrawal and depression of internalizing problem behaviors between left-behind children's group and non left-behind children's group. Second, the left-behind children's group showed no significant difference in self-resilience and social support compared to non left-behind children's group, but showed a significant difference in self-esteem. In the positive self- esteem factor, non left-behind children's group showed much higher score whereas left-behind children's group was higher in the negative self-esteem factor. Third, social support for left-behind children's group has a statistically significant direct negative effect on internalizing problem behaviors, and indirectly negative effects on problem behavior through self-resilience. These results suggest the necessity of establishing a social support system for mitigating and preventing problem behaviors and the necessity of preparing measures to improve self-resilience. Based on the results of the study, we discussed how to establish a social support system in China to mitigate internalizing problem behaviors of Korean Chinese left-behind children.

  • More than a decade after its initial proposal, deployment of IP Multicast has been limited due to the problem of traffic control in multicast routing, multicast address allocation in global internet, reliable multicast transport techniques etc. Lately, according to increase of multicast application service such as internet broadcast, real time security information service etc., overlay multicast is developed as a new internet multicast technology. In this paper, we describe an overlay multicast protocol and propose fast join mechanism that considers switching of the tree. To find a potential parent, an existing search algorithm descends the tree from the root by one level at a time, and it causes long joining latency. Also, it is try to select the nearest node as a potential parent. However, it can't select the nearest node by the degree limit of the node. As a result, the generated tree has low efficiency. To reduce long joining latency and improve the efficiency of the tree, we propose searching two levels of the tree at a time. This method forwards joining request message to own children node. So, at ordinary times, there is no overhead to keep the tree. But the joining request came, the increasing number of searching messages will reduce a long joining latency. Also searching more nodes will be helpful to construct more efficient trees. In order to evaluate the performance of our fast join mechanism, we measure the metrics such as the search latency and the number of searched node and the number of switching by the number of members and degree limit. The simulation results show that the performance of our mechanism is superior to that of the existing mechanism.

  • The purpose of this study was to examine what was the child's character education recognized by mothers of multicultural families and what was the actual conditions and needs of the child's character education at home through the in-depth interviews, and to suggest the efficient direction of the child's character education for mothers of multicultural families. The research participants were 6 mothers with children in multicultural families who lived in E city of Gangwon-do. The results of this study were as follows. First, as for the child's character education recognized by mothers of multicultural families, it was said to doing character education at home such as becoming a good person, becoming a child to listen to the parent's words and to reconcile with family, and becoming a child who was in harmony with friends. Second, as for the actual conditions of child's character education, they often used a control language such as "Do not, no", when children did not behave properly. In particular, there were some cases of using threatening words such as "taking you to the police station". Third, they hoped that various interests and support would be provided, such as not listening to "You are ill-behaved because you are in a multicultural family," receiving husband's educational support, receiving grandparents' support, and interests from the educational institution, etc.

  • Objectives: The purpose of this research is to find out the relations among children‘s perceived competences, expressive disposition of interpersonal relations, and parents’ social support, which influence their self image. Methods: The samples to achieve the purpose of this research are composed of 294 students in G elementary school, OO city, Kyounggido, the number of male students in the fifth year being 71, female 77, and male students in the sixth year being 73, female 73. After having excluded the data of 9 students among them due to their insincere reply, this research analyzed the data of 285 students by using SPSS WIN Ver. 13.0. Results: First, after having observed the average difference stemming from each method, this research found that there is no sexual difference in parents‘ social support. (p<.05). In children's perceived competences, female students is higher only in active aspect than male students, but there is no meaningful difference in other aspects. In expressive disposition of interpersonal relations, the showing-off and narcissistic expressive tendency of female students is higher than that of male students, but there is no meaningful difference in other aspects. Second, this research found out the meaningful static correlation among parents' social support, children's perceived competences, and expressive disposition of interpersonal relations. Parents' emotional, appreciative, and informative support has the static correlation with all the other aspects of children's perceived competences, and material support has the static correlation with children's academic, active, and general self-esteeming sense (p<.05, p<.01). Third, this research observed, of all the aspects of parents' social support and expressive disposition of interpersonal relations, what variable is affecting children's perceived competences, and found that parents' appreciative support, showing-off and narcissistic expressive tendency, material support, and informative support, each in order, has meaningful influence (p<.05, p<.01). This fact shows that the further the children recognize these supports of their parents', the more affirmatively they recognize their competences, and the further the children of showing-off and narcissistic expressive disposion recognize their competences. Conclusions: First, sampling was conducted of the fifth and sixth male and female students of OO elementary school, and so the result of this research has the applicative limitation in the generalization for all the elementary school students. Therefore this research suggests further researches by broad sampling for the more advanced generalization. Second, this research only observed the differnce of perception deriving from gender and school year, but the parents' social support levels perceived by children reveal many differnces according to children's characters or their families' variables. Therefore this research suggests subsequent researches on various variables.

  • The purpose of the present study is to analyze the trajectory of science core school students' STEM career motivation and to examine the relationship between the trajectory patterns and students' tracks. Longitudinal STEM career motivation data with seven constructs were collected from 256 students for five semesters and the data were analyzed by using group-based trajectory modelling analysis. In order to examine the relationship between trajectory pattern groups and the tracks, chi-square tests were conducted. Based on our findings, we found that students are likely to have similar trajectory patterns in STEM career education experience and in their perception towards STEM career value. In terms of parents' support, academic self-efficacy and STEM career motivation aspects are divided into two distinctive trajectory groups ('high' and 'low' group), while two other variables, STEM career self-efficacy and STEM career interest, are divided into three trajectory groups ('moderate declining', 'high declining', 'increasing' group). Most of the trajectory groups are shown the pattern that the level of each constructs increase until their second academic year, then after that, the patterns started going down. Moreover, there are significant relationship between track and each trajectory groups. Science track and science-core track students have similar trajectory patterns. In contrast, humanities track students have different trajectory groups in some constructs. Based on these findings, we suggest that STEM career education environment should consider various patterns of students' STEM career development.

  • The purpose of this study was to explore predictors of positive changes in children with divorced parents and to demonstrate the structural path among the perceived experience of social discrimination, parenting difficulties, parent-child communication, and internet use of children that related to positive changes based on family incomes. The subjects for this study were 1,114 single parents from divorced families sourced from a study on the status of single-parent families in 2015. The results of this study by using the structural equation model of the moderating effect verification with family incomes and multi group analysis are as follows. First, single-parent's perceived experience of social discrimination turned had a significant positive effect on parenting difficulties( =.354) and children's internet use ( =.234). Single-parent's perceived parenting difficulties also had a significant positive effect on children's internet use ( =.440) but a significant negative effect on both parent-child communication( =.192) and positive changes of children( =.218). Interestingly, internet use of children demonstrated a significant negative effect on their positive changes. Second, parent-child communication, parenting difficulties, and children's internet use had a negative mediating effect with the relationship where single-parent's perceived experience of social discrimination had an effect on positive changes of children( =.167). Second, between the family groups based on family incomes, there was no statistically significant difference in the structural relationship. Based on these results, this study presented a practical proposal to help single parents not experience social discrimination and to help decrease the internet use of children to improve positive changes.
