  • The combustion characteristics of cellulose Insulation treated with several metal complexes such as Aluminium hydroxide, Cupric sulfate pentahydrate, Magnesium sulfate heptahydrate, Manganese chloride tetrahydrate and Tnisodium phosphate dodecahydrate are studied to evaluate the effectiveness as a potential flame retardant for cellulosic materials. In this study, we found that LOI values of cellulosic materials treated with the metal complexes are generally increased with the increase of their content. At high concentration, CS(24% ) and SP(24% ) show high LOI values, suggesting resistance to flame spread, The materials examined in this study were found to be relatively more resistance to smouldering and flaming combustion in comparision with untreated cellulosic material. The flammability behavior of the materials exhibits combustion process as follows : LOI$\rightarrow$smouldering region$\rightarrow$smouldering-flaming spread region$\rightarrow$flame spread region.

  • Building-integrated photovoltaic(BIPV) perform traditional architectural function of walls and roof while also generating electricity. But most of the absorbed solar energy appears passively as heat, raising the temperature of cells and reducing the efficiency with which the active part is converted into electricity. Therefore this paper presents the comparison of electrical, architectural and thermal performance of roof integrated photovoltaic(PV) modules, which is composed of different hybrid structure layer such as urethane form, waffle stud etc.

  • Zirconia coatings are performed by the plasma spraying on the substrate of Al-Si alloy. In case of plasma sprayed ceramic coatings, it is important to control properly residual stress occurred during cooling process. Residual stress in coating layer varies with sprayed conditions and is influenced greatly by the coating layer thickness. Surface residual stress due to coating layer thickness is measured by X-ray diffraction method and the residual stress in coating layer is estimated by the deflection of coating layer when the restraint force in substrate was removed. When zirconia was coated on the substrate, tensile residual stress remains on zirconia coated surface layer. The tensile stress is increased to 0.35mm thickness and after 0.45mm thickness it is decreased abrouptly. A thick bond and composite coating reduce the zirconia surface stress and composite coating controls effectively the thick zirconia surface stress.

  • The study aims to address the energy crisis and realize self-sufficiency of building as part of local energy independence, breaking away from a single concentrated energy supply system. It is intended to develop modules of the outside insulation composite panels that conform to passive certification criteria and for site-assembly systematization. The method of study first identifies trends and passive house in literature and advanced research. Second, the target performance for development is set, and the structural material is selected and designed to simulate performance. Third, a test specimen of the passive outside insulation curtain wall module designed is manufactured and constructed to test its heat transmission coefficient, condensation performance and airtightness. Finally, analyze performance test results, and explore and propose ways to improve the estimation and improvement of incomplete causes to achieve the goal. The final test results achieved the target performance of condensation and airtightness, and the heat transmission coefficient was $0.16W/(m^2{\cdot}K)$, which is $0.01W/(m^2{\cdot})K$ below the performance target. As for the lack of performance, we saw a need for a complementary design to account for simulation errors. It also provided an opportunity to recognize that insulated walls with performance can impact performance at small break. Thus, to be commercialized into a product with the need for improvement in the design of the joint parts, a management system is needed to increase the precision in the fabrication process.

  • The purpose of this research is to improve the thermal effiency of solar collector and to quantitatively analyze its performance. Solar thermal systems have been limited to water heating systems mainly using low-temperature range. However, through diverse developments, the application has been extended to medium- and high-temperature fields such as solar heating, solar air conditioning, and solar thermal industrial process. Among the diverse research, this research is specially focusing on enhancement of the thermal performance by minimizing the heat loss coefficient of flat plate solar collectors. In order to do it, a front-side glazing material and a back-side insulation material with high insulated structure is proposed and based on computational analysis, the performance of energy collecting volume of the proposed solar collector is analyzed. The research shows that the proposed structure has the excellent performance at medium- and high-temperature range. therefore, it is expected that the proposed structure can easily replace existing technologies.

  • This paper deals with the study on injection with EPDM(Ethylene propylene dien ter polymer) the gap which narrow, long, and tubular between an ablative composite tube and a steel motor case. Small size motor assembly was designed and manufactured for man-portable air defense propulsion system. Motor assembly is consisted with steel tube, ablative composite tube and insulation rubber. Ablative composite tube was made of carbon/phenolic prepreg by rolling process and insulation rubber was made of EPDM by TPM(Trans-power molding) process. To select the insulation rubber material, we tested ablative insulation property and degradation property at first and we tested fluidity, adhesive property and hardness of EPDM rubber. Finally we designed TPM process to manufacture motor case assembly and the motor case assembly was examined by non-destructive test(X-ray).

  • A catalytic plasma reactor was employed for the oxidation of isopropyl alcohol (IPA) classified as a volatile organic compound (VOC). Copper oxide (Cu : 0.5% (w/w)) supported on a multichannel porous ceramic consisting of ${\alpha}-Al_2O_3$ was used as a catalyst, which was directly exposed to the plasma created in it. The effects of discharge voltage and reaction temperature on the concentrations of IPA and its byproducts were examined to understand the behavior of the catalytic plasma reactor. Without thermal insulation, the reactor temperature increased up to $120^{\circ}C$ at an applied voltage of 17 kV (discharge power : 28 W), and the IPA at a flow rate of $1L\;min^{-1}$ ($O_2$ : 10% (v/v); IPA : 1000 ppm) was completely removed. At temperatures below $120^{\circ}C$, however, besides the desirable product $CO_2$, several unwanted byproducts such as acetone, formaldehyde and CO were also formed from IPA. On the other hand, when the reactor was thermally insulated, the plasma discharge increased the temperature up to $265^{\circ}C$ under the same condition and most of IPA was oxidized to $CO_2$. Without loading CuO on the ceramic support, the plasma discharge in the thermally insulated reactor produced nearly equal amounts of $CO_2$ and CO. On comparison, with the catalyst alone (temperature : $265^{\circ}C$), more than 70% of the removed IPA was simply converted into another type of VOC (acetone), indicating that the catalyst assisted by the plasma is more effective in the oxidation of IPA than that of the catalyst-alone process.

  • In this study, a functional inorganic insulation as TiO2 and inorganic wet fly ash were used to evaluate the physical performance and thermal environment of an exterior finish that can improve the thermal environment of a building. The performance evaluation of the finish was based on the KS F 4715 thin coating material and the thermal environment. When TiO2 was added, the physical performance was lowered at 10% or more, and the inorganic wet-treated fly ash increased the physical performance by 10%. In the thermal environmental evaluation, the surface temperature reduction effect of the inorganic wet-treated fly ash was low, but when used in combination with TiO2, it was effective to reduce the surface temperature and the internal temperature. As a result, the optimum combination of TiO2 and inorganic wet-treated fly ash for thermal environment control was found to be optimal when 5% of each mixture was used.

  • Heat resistance performance evaluation and thermal analysis were performed to confirm the applicability of the lyocell-based carbon/phenolic composite material for heat-resistant parts for aerospace. Heat resistance performance evaluation of carbon/phenolic was conducted by Thermal Protection Evaluation Motor (TPEM). In this paper, boundary layer integration code considering the boundary layer analysis of combustion gas and MSC-Marc 2018 considering ablation and thermal pyrolysis were used for the thermal analysis. The ablation and thermal insulation performance were analyzed by the pressure curve of test motor and the cut carbon/phenolic specimens. The thermal response of the lyocell-based carbon/phenolic material was similar to that of the rayon-based carbon/phenolic material. Based on the results through the combustion test, the applicability of heat-resistant parts for aerospace to which domestic lyocell-based carbon fibers were applied was confirmed.
