Reduction of Visceral and Body Fats in Mice by Supplementation of Conjugated Linoleic Acid with γ-Oryzanol (Conjugated linoleic acid와 γ-oryzanol 혼합물의 생쥐 체지방 및 복부지방 감소 효과)

  • The synergistic effect of conjugated linoleic acid (CLA) and $\gamma$-oryzanol (OZ) on the reduction of visceral and body fats was investigated in mice. Female ICR mice, 10 weeks of age, were acclimated for one week and then randomly divided into 5 treatment groups by body weights: Control (70 ${\mu}l$ olive oil + 30 ${\mu}l$ CLA), CLA-OZ 1 (70 ${\mu}l$ olive oil + 30 ${\mu}l$ CLA + OZ 0.5 mg), CLA-OZ 2 (70 ${\mu}l$ olive oil + 30 ${\mu}l$ CLA + OZ 1.0 mg), OZ (100 ${\mu}l$ olive oil + OZ 1.0 mg), and Olive oil (100 ${\mu}l$ olive oil). Samples were daily intubated, p.o., for 4 weeks. Food and water were ad libitum. Four weeks later, mice were sacrificed by neck dislocation, followed by measuring whole body weight, empty carcass weight (ECW), which is weight without organs and visceral fats, visceral fats, body fats and protein content. Mice treated with CLA (control) sample maintained significantly, p<0.05, lower whole body weight, ECW, visceral and body fats, relative to mice treated with olive oil sample, indicating that CLA reduces the visceral and body fats. The CLA-OZ 1 treatment significantly reduced, p<0.05, visceral and body fats as compared to OZ treatment, but not significantly different from control treatment.Meanwhile, CLA-OZ 2-treated mice maintained significantly, p<0.05, lower visceral and body fats than control and OZ-treated mice. Protein contents in mice were not affected by any other treatments. These results suggest that OZ enhanced the reduction of visceral and body fats in mice by CLA.

Effect of Combined Exercise Order for 12 Weeks of Obese College Females on the Composition of Abdominal Fat and Blood Lipid Profiles (비만 여대생들의 12주간 복합운동 순서 차이가 복부지방구성 및 혈중지질 변화에 미치는 영향)

  • The purposes of this study were to observe the effects of the exercise programs which have different order of walking and resistance exercises on the composition of the abdominal fat and the blood lipid profiles of the obese college women and to provide basic materials for the development of more effective and more efficient exercise program in order to reduce and prevent obesity. Classification of group, "A" group(resistance exercise after aerobic exercise) is a group of 12 people, "B" group(resistance exercise after aerobic exercise) is a group of 12 people. To determine the abdominal fat, intestine fat area, subcutaneous fat area, ratio of intestine fat area/subcutaneous fat area were analyzed, while for the blood lipid profiles, total cholesterol, triglyceride, high density lipid protein, and low density lipid protein were analyzed. First, there was statistically significant difference in the interaction in the abdomen subcutaneous fat. In the post analysis, the Resistance first group showed significantly more reduction to confirm that there was difference according to the order of the exercises. Second, there was statistically significant difference in the interaction effects in the factor of triglyceride. In the post analysis, the Resistance first group only showed significant reduction in the triglyceride to confirm that resistance exercise followed by aerobics would be better for the reduction of the triglyceride.

Adipocyte Cellularity of Abdominal Fat Pad in the Farmed Korean Ring-necked Pheasants and Broiler Chicken (한국꿩과 육계의 복부지방 세포 특성에 관한 연구)

  • Abdominal fat pad from farmed Korean ring-necked pheasants that had scanty fat depot was characterized in terms of adipocyte size as determined by free fat cells liberated by collagenase incubation. Similar parameters was also measured in the broiler chicken with similar body weight to those of pheasants. The adipocyte from pheasants was much smaller than that of broiler chicken. The results of this study suggested that the scanty development of abdominal fat pad in the pheasants appeared to be due to a smaller size of adipocyte.

Correlation of Body Mass Index, Body Fat Distribution, Aminotranferases and Computed Tomography in Obese Children with Fatty Liver (비만을 동반한 소아 지방간 환아에서 체질량 지수, 체지방 분포, 간 효소치 및 복부 CT 소견과의 상관관계에 대한 연구)

  • Purpose : Visceral fat accumulation plays a major role in metabolic complications of obesity. It is known that nonalcoholic fatty liver in obese adults is associated with visceral fat accumulation. Body mass index(BMI) is used as the index of obesity in children. The aim of this study is to evaluate the correlation of BMI and visceral adipose tissue(VAT), and the correlation of BMI, body fat distribution, aminotransferases, and severity of fatty liver. Methods : Twenty three obese children with fatty liver diagnosed by non-contrast abdominal computed tomography(CT) were included in this study. Data on BMI, aminotransferase levels were collected from clinical records. Visceral adipose area was evaluated with CT. Results : BMI had a singnificant correlation with VAT(r=0.51719, P=0.0115). The severity of fatty liver had no significant correlations with BMI(r=-0.11938, P=0.5876), VAT(r=-0.31234, P=0.1468), aspartate aminotransferase(AST)(r=0.12729, P=0.5628) or alanine aminotransferase(ALT)(r=-0.00179, P=0.9935). Conclusion : BMI in obese children was correlated with VAT. But the severity of fatty liver cannot be assessed by BMI, VAT or aminotransferase levels.

Correlation between Visceral Adipose Tissue and Stagnation of the Liver Qi (gan-yu, 肝鬱) in Korean Perimenopausal Women (한국 갱년기 여성의 간울과 내장비만의 상관성)

  • 목적 : 갱년기 여성은 내장비만의 위험이 높으며 또한 심리적 변화를 겪는 시기이다. 갱년기 여성의 복부지방, 내장지방, 피하지방 및 이와 관련된 단순비만지표, 간울증, 스트레스, 우울, 자존감 등을 조사하여 갱년기 건강의 위협이 되는 신체 심리 인자를 알아보고자 이 연구를 시행하였다. 방법 : 병원공고를 통해 체질량지수 $23kg/m^2$ 이상 비흡연자인 만 45세 이상 55세 이하의 폐경 전후의 갱년기 여성 환자를 모집하여 2007년 8월 20일부터 24일까지 47명이 모집되었으며 이중 체질량지수 $25kg/m^2$ 이상이면서 복부 전산화 단층촬영 상 내장지방이 $100cm^2$ 이상인 20명의 단순비만지표, 체성분검사, 혈액검사, 복부 전산화 단층촬영 및 한방비만변증 (간울) 및 스트레스, 우울, 자존감 설문검사 결과의 상관성을 분석하였다. 본 연구는 경희대학교 동서신의학병원의 임상연구심사위원회의 승인을 받았다. 결과 : 1. 갱년기 비만여성에서 복부지방 면적, 피하지방 면적은 체질량지수, 체지방률, 허리둘레/신장비 등의 단순비만지표와 유의한 상관성을 보인 반면 (p < 0.01), 내장지방 면적은 단순비만지표와 상관성을 보이지 않았다. 2. 내장지방 면적은 사회 재적응 평가척도 (${\gamma}=0.577$, p < 0.01)와 유의한 상관성이 있었고, 선형회귀분석에서 유의한 결과를 나타냈다. $VAT(cm^2)=116.1+0.101{\times}(SRRS\;score)$ (${\gamma}^2=0.332$) 3. 피하지방은 식이태도 점수와, 총복부지방은 식이태도 점수 및 갱년기지수 중 혈관운동증상과 상관성이 있었다. 4. 간울증은 스트레스 반응척도, 우울지수, 갱년기지수 및 그 하부항목 중 혈관운동, 정신, 운동, 소화, 전신증상과 양의 상관성을, 자존감척도와는 음의 상관성을 나타냈으며, 내장지방과 직접적인 상관성을 보이지 않았다. 결론 : 간울증은 높은 스트레스, 우울, 갱년기 증상 및 낮은 자존감과 관련되는 것으로 나타났다. 폐경전후 비만여성에서 내장지방 면적은 간울증과 유의한 상관성을 보이지 않았으나, 생활 스트레스 사건이 많을수록 높아지는 것으로 나타나 갱년기 여성 내장비만에서 스트레스에 대한 대처가 중요할 것으로 사료된다. 추후 임상적 연계성 및 설문 보완에 대한 연구가 필요하리라 생각된다.

The Relationship of Abdominal Obesity and Lipid Profiles by Computed Tomography in Adult Women (전산화 단층촬영을 이용한 성인여성의 복부비만과 지질대사지표와의 연관성)

  • Abdominal obesity, especially, visceral obesity is thought to be a risk factor of type 2 diabetes and cardiovascular disease such as hypertension, hyperlipidemia, coronary artery disease. Based on previous studies visceral fat accumulation is highly related to these diseases compared to subcutaneous fat accumulation. The purpose of this study was to see the relation between abdominal obesity and lipid profiles in adult women. The included subjects were 25 adult women(BMI > $23\;kg/m^2$), who visited the obesity clinic in a general hospital from April 2006 to September 2007. Blood pressure, fasting glucose and lipid profiles were measured. The abdominal fat distribution had been assessed by CT scan at the level of L4-L5. From bivariate analyses, the visceral fat accumulation showed negative correlations with TC and TC/HDL. The BMI, total abdominal fat and Visceral fat/Subcutaneous fat ratio showed significant correlations with visceral fat accumulation. From linear regression analyses of all the study subjects, TC, TG and HDL were found to be determinants of the visceral fat accumulation($R^2\;=\;0.474$).

지피지기 백전백승: 당뇨병, 복부비만을 조심하라!

  • 당뇨병을 유발시키는 요인에는 여러 가지가 있다. 그 중에서 비만은 당뇨병 뿐 아니라 심혈관질환 등의 관련된 합병증의 주요 원인으로 악명이 높다. 실제로 2009년 대한 당뇨병학회지에 실린 논문에 의하면 제 2형 당뇨병환자의 80% 이상이 과체중 또는 비만으로 나타났다. 비만은 전신적인 지방의 총 양 이외에도 체내 지방의 분포에 따라서 그 위험도가 달라지는데, 특히 복부에 축적된 지방은 인슐린 저항성을 유발하여 심혈관질환의 위험을 더욱 증가시킨다.

Combination of berberine and silibinin improves lipid metabolism and anti-obesity efficacy in high-fat diet-fed obese mice (고지방식이로 유도한 비만마우스에서 berberine과 silibinin 복합투여를 통한 지질대사 개선과 항비만 효능 증진)

  • In this study, we investigated whether the combined administration of berberine (BBR) and silibinin (SBN) was effective in improving hyperlipidemia and anti-obesity efficacy using a high-fat diet (HFD)-fed obese mouse model. HFD-induced obese mice were supplemented with the BBR and SBN combination (BBR-SBN) along with the HFD administration for 8 weeks. During the experiment, body weight, food intake, and levels of total cholesterol, triglyceride and high-density lipoprotein (HDL)-cholesterol were analyzed. Consumption of HFD in the mice caused rapid increases in body weight and the levels of total cholesterol and triglycerides compared to the normal control (NC) group. However, supplementation of BBR-SBN in these obese mice significantly reduced body weight gain and suppressed the levels of total cholesterol and triglyceride with the increment of HDL cholesterol level. In the HFD-fed group, abdominal fat weight was significantly increased and the adipocytes within the epididymal adipose tissue were found to have expanded sizes compared to the NC group. However, in the BBR-SBN group, the sizes of the adipocytes were comparable to those of the NC group and abdominal fat weight was significantly reduced. Moreover, the deposition of giant vesicular fat cells in liver tissues seen in the HFD-fed group was considerably reduced in the BBR-SBN group. These results suggest that the BBR-SBN combination tends to have synergic potential as an anti-obesity agent by significantly reducing body weight gain as well as lowering serum lipid levels and thus improving anti-obesity efficacy in HFD-induced obese mice.
