This study investigated the association of occupation, subjective psychological distress to a traumatic event, and demographic characteristics with posttraumatic growth in emergency workers (firefighters, rescue, and ambulance personnel), subway operators, and child protective service workers. The study led to the following conclusions: First, all three groups are risk groups of PTSD, especially, subway operators demonstrated the highest degree. Child protective service workers demonstrated the highest degree of PTG and emergency workers and subway operators followed respectively. Second, vicarious trauma and PTG were significantly correlated, in particular, invasion and avoidance were more highly correlated. Third, multivariate analysis revealed that occupation, invasion, avoidance, religion, and sex were significantly associated with PTG. Discussion addresses the need to serve mental health service and to apply concept of PTG for occupations exposed to trauma.

  • In this study, we studied the influence that the stress placed on children (originating from presence of two cultures at multi-cultural families) can have on adapting to school, and further assessed the control effect of teachers' support as a protection factor. In order to achieve the goal of the research, we identified samples of children between Grades 3-6 who came from multi-cultural families to carry out surveys. Based on the results of our analysis, the experience of discrimination and language conflicts experienced by children from multi-cultural families affected their academic activities (among adaptation factors to school experiences), while teachers' support appeared to have a control effect. However, for the influence of language conflicts on friend relationships (among adaptation factors to school experiences), teachers' support did not have a control effect. As such, based on this research result, we've proposed plans to improve school adaptation of children from multicultural families.

  • Recently, the number of cases of child abuse has been increasing and, consequently, the social interest in this issue is increasing. The purpose of this study is to examine the relationship between child abuse, rejection sensitivity and emotional regulation and to identify the mediating effects of rejection sensitivity in the relationship between child abuse and emotional regulation. For this purpose, a survey on child abuse, rejection sensitivity and emotional regulation was administered to 217 elementary school students in the fourth, fifth and sixth grades, who had been reported as victims of child abuse or managed as suspected child abuse victims in the Seoul, Gyeonggi, Gangwon, Chungcheong, and Gyeongsang regions. The data was analyzed using structural equation modelling and bootstrapping. The findings showed that child abuse was significantly negatively correlated with emotional regulation, but positively correlated with rejection sensitivity. Emotional regulation was significantly negatively correlated with rejection sensitivity. Second, the structural equation analysis also revealed that rejection sensitivity fully mediated the relationship between child abuse and emotional regulation. This means that child abuse has an indirect effect on emotional regulation through rejection sensitivity. Therefore, when counseling abused children with emotional regulation problems, it is important for the counselors to include interventions designed to lower their rejection sensitivity.

For those purposes, the study conducted a survey by mail with those who were working for child welfare centers in Busan and Gyeongnam Province from March 2 to 25, 2016. Of the collected questionnaires, 550 whose responses were sincere were used in the final analysis. The analysis results show that psychological capital had the biggest influence on the job performance among practitioners of child welfare centers. Furthermore, in the chief of child welfare centers, the more having of professional capability, the more job performance they experienced. However, in the front-line social workers, professional capability did not affect the job performance. Those results indicate that the expansion of psychological capital should be a top priority to help the practitioners of child welfare centers improve their job performance. Based on those findings, the study offered some implications for the organizational management of child welfare centers.

  • Child policy has focused on needy children with special emphasis on residual services but youth policy has implemented to promote capabilities of general adolescents by various activities. The fragmented implementation of child-youth policy by several ministries resulted in possible redundancy of target groups and insufficient service delivery system. Thus, the Ministry of Health, Welfare, and Family Affairs has pushed forward to integrate service delivery systems in child-youth policy after the former Ministry of Health and Welfare and the Government Youth Commission were integrated as part of a government reorganization plan. The purpose of this study is to review limitations of Lee Myung-bak government's plan to integrate child-youth policy and to make important suggestions for effective integration. Lee Myung-bak government's plan seeks to help children and adolescents prepare for the future and move forward with dreams and hope. However, this plan has fatal problems of overemphasizing the efficiency of finance without expansion of budget for children and adolescents. To achieve well-being tailored to one's life cycle, the full-scale expansion of budget is indispensible through the induction of the special fund or the special tax for children and adolescents. Fortunately, Lee Myung-bak government recognized child-youth policy as the social investment that would heighten national competitiveness in the long term, but there was insufficient child-youth policy infrastructure for new implementation. Therefore, Lee Myung-bak government needs a new design for integrated and universal child-youth policy that should take into account national human resource development plan and its economic development policy. The public responsibility for children and adolescents should be strengthened and, in addition, the network function in service delivery system should be complemented.

  • Following the social consensus for the need to stop sexual violence, the government has amended juvenile sex protection laws to impose fees on education practitioners who do not report sexual crimes against women, and amended the 'domestic violence prevention and victim protection laws' (2012. 2) so that the police can investigate on site. However, regardless of these wide efforts, the reality is that sexual crimes against the socially weak do not seem to be dwindling, raising concerns of the effectiveness of such amendments. Generally sexual crimes are hard to prove, and even if reports are filed, most cases are dropped with non-prosecution disposition. Victims are usually limited to women and children and this leads to secondary victims. As this thesis states, developed countries have a more systematic protection methods than our country. Therefore, the purpose of this thesis lies on the construction of public safety infrastructure for the protection of sexual abuse victims (enhancing safety protocols with related organizations, implementing a bill of rights for the victims, prevention-centered police education, amendments to current law) to limit human rights violations and criminal injuries.
