  • In the present study, the deformation capacity of slender shear walls with thin web was studied. As reported by other researchers, web-crushing and rebar-fracture, developing by inelastic deformation after flexural yielding, were considered as the governing failure modes of walls. To address the effect of the longitudinal elongation on web-crushing and rebar-fracture, the longitudinal elongation was predicted by using truss model analysis. The failure criteria by web-crushing and rebar-fracture were defined as a function of the longitudinal elongation. The proposed method was applied to 17 shear wall specimens with boundary columns, and the prediction results were compared with the test results. The results showed that proposed method predicted the maximum deformations and failure modes of the wall specimens with reasonable precision.

  • In this study, a specimen composed of columns, walls, beams, and slabs was fabricated to investigate the estimated reliability using nondestructive test method for the location of structural members of reinforced concrete single layer structures. And for accurate analysis in the comparison process with the existing estimation formula, we try to analyze the reliability through statistical approach by using error rate comparison and Confidence interval estimation. As a result, The average error rate of the core test was 18.8% compared with the result of estimating the compressive strength using the ultrasonic pulse velocity method. The average error rate of the core test results compared with the result of estimating the compressive strength using the rebound hardness method was 20.1%, confirming the field applicability. it is judged that the reliability of the compressive strength estimation can be derived from the wall member to make a quick and efficient structure safety diagnosis using the ultrasonic pulse velocity method. In addition, it is judged that the reliability of the compressive strength estimation can be derived from the beam member to make a quick and efficient structure safety diagnosis using the rebound hardness method.

  • This paper presents experimental research work for the evaluation of ultimate flexural behaviors of prestressed concrete beams with a corroded tendon. In order to evaluate the effects of loss of prestress or loss of tendon area on the ultimate flexural strength of prestressed concrete beams, static load tests are conducted using five prestressed concrete beams. After exposing prestressing tendons in two test beams using 25mm drill bit, the exposed tendons were corroded using an accelerating corrosion equipment to simulate loss of tendon area. During the tests, steel strains, concrete strains and displacements at the center of test beams were measured, and acoustic emission measurements were conducted to detect wire fractures. Based on the test results, evaluation method for predicting flexural strength of prestressed concrete beams with corroded tendons is investigated. In addition, evaluation methods for predicting the existence of corroded tendons in post-tensioned prestressed concrete beams at service loads are discussed.

  • For safe seismic evaluation and design, it is necessary to predict the plastic deformation demands of members. In the present study, a quick and reasonable method for the evaluation of member plastic deformations of dual systems was developed on the basis of results of elastic analysis, without using nonlinear analysis. Plastic deformations of beams, columns, and walls are functions of member stiffness, story drift ratio, and moment redistribution determined from elastic analysis. For dual systems with rigid connections between walls and beams, an increase in the plastic deformations of beams due to the rocking effect was considered. The proposed method was applied to 8-story dual systems and the predicted plastic deformations were compared with the results of nonlinear analysis. The results showed that the proposed method accurately predicted the member plastic deformations with simple calculations, but that for the accurate evaluation of member plastic deformations, the inelastic story drift ratio must also be predicted with accuracy. The proposed method can be applied to both the performance-based seismic design of new structures and the seismic evaluation of existing structures.

  • In this study, a new information-based hybrid modeling framework is proposed. In the hybrid framework, a conventional mathematical model is complemented by the informational methods. The basic premise of the proposed hybrid methodology is that not all features of system response are amenable to mathematical modeling, hence considering informational alternatives. This may be because (i) the underlying theory is not available or not sufficiently developed, or (ii) the existing theory is too complex and therefore not suitable for modeling within building frame analysis. The role of informational methods is to model aspects that the mathematical model leaves out. Autoprogressive algorithm and self-learning simulation extract the missing aspects from a system response. In a hybrid framework, experimental data is an integral part of modeling, rather than being used strictly for validation processes. The potential of the hybrid methodology is illustrated through modeling complex hysteretic behavior of beam-to-column connections.

  • Major structural elements such as columns and beams are designed to withstand the vertical and horizontal loads. Futhermore, when the structural elements were engulfed with fire the structural stability should be stand without failure. The beams have been developed in aspects of structural stability but an evaluation of fire performance was not done. So the data of fire resistance performance of beams filled with concrete at web on H-section is not known. The purpose of this paper is to analyse the correlation between temperature analysis and fire test with the beams and to show the fire resistance performance with two methods.

  • Since wall system apartment used the shear wall as main lateral resistance member, installation of openings which causing section loss of walls may cause significant problem to structure. Also, there are few studies for inducing coupling beam or slabs which are occurred by installing openings. Therefore, this study planned isolated 2-story shear walls which are reduced three half-scale specimen to find out walls behavior characteristic. The test results showed that strength reduction caused by loss of effective section of walls and different result of stiffness and energy dissipation regarding to the coupling beam and coupling slabs.

  • This study was to understand the basic principles of the East Asian wooden structure system research and analysis. The Korea and China ancient architecture internal structure research that the combination of girders and crossbeams position. The ancient wooden structures of eastern Asian countries, Korea and China are not much different from each other in the principles of the wooden architecture structure, combining pillars, purlins and crossbeams. However, it seems that age-division, local-division, national-division differs in detail techniques. China ancient wooden structures combination of purlin and crossbeam, and So-seul Timber(Chinese name: Chashou叉手, Tuojiao 托脚) seems to show differences according to the age of the fulcrum position, detailed approach is also different according to various historical dynasty. Before in the 15th century, Purlin and Crossbeam are coupled to each other, but since the 15th century, seems to have developed a technique combined with each other Girder and Crossbeam and to prevent buckling of the Crossbeam cross-sectional area increased dramatically. For Tuojiao in China Tang-Wudai dynasty(A.D. 618~979), can see that saw the top position Girder and Tuojiao no direct coupling, can be seen as maintaining the safety of the material than the material of the inner wooden structures prevent buckling of the purlin. Korea ancient wooden structures of Goryeo dynasty(A.D. 918~1391), So-seul Timber(Chinese name Tuojiao) why do not to use the fashion? To use Purlin Lower backing material techniques to prevent buckling is a popular trend to stable can be thought of as a preferred way to maintain. I think that with universality beyond the local-division, national-division and the two countries since the 15th century of Korea and China ancient wooden structures detailed mechanism for the purlin buckling. In middle-late Chosen dynasty, The effect of Deotgeolyi- techniques and fleeting beams reduce the purlin buckling that reduces the load transmitted from purlin and crossbeam of how to reduce the load on the roof portion of the architecture fleeting beams used, which of craftsmanship of the Chosen Dynasty building can be referred to as another technique for preventing buckling purlin. This Korea and China ancient architecture purlin beam structure and material So-seul Timber study. Seems to be able to provide a basic research study to restore and designed the old wooden architectures.

  • In the case of fire, a structure loses its original stiffness due to the temperature rise, and the load bearing capacity decreases. The loss of structural strength increases with increasing fire time of the structure. To prevent the collapse of buildings, it is very important to understand whether or not the members are damaged. On the other hand, there is insufficient data to be a guideline for diagnosing and evaluating the residual strength of the members in Korea. Therefore, this study examined the resistance performance by Finite-Element-Analysis of composite beams, which are composite structures among structural members. Composite beam modeling was carried out based on the model used in the Electrical Penetration Room (EPR) in cooperation with KEPCO. The heat transfer analysis and structural analysis of the critical phase were performed using ANSYS, a finite element analysis program. ANSYS was used to perform heat transfer analysis and structural analysis at the static analysis. To analyze the residual performance, the temperature distribution of the composite beam and the maximum displacement result of the heat-affected structure analysis were derived and the experimental data and the structural analysis result data were compared and analyzed.

  • For high-strength steel, it is difficult to be applied to flexible structural member because it have high yield ratio and low basic material's toughness. One of the great problems when using high-strength steel connections is the brittle fracture at the end of the beam member in common with general mild steel connections. In the cases of mild steel connections, it has be developed that special moment frame connection details by reinforcing structural member or improvement of welding access hole. But, it is incomplete at yet about applicability estimation of high-strength steel connections. This study is the initial step research for the applicability estimation of beam-to-column connections being applied to developed high-strength steel, HSA800. And, it studied about structural performance of the high-strength steel connections according to the details of welding access hole through full-scale test and analytical method.
