Phytochemical Contents and Antioxidant Activities of Opuntia ficus-indica var. saboten (보검선인장의 Phytochemical 함량 분석 및 항산화 활성)

  • The aim of this study was to evaluate key properties of the prickly pear cactus (Opuntia ficus-indica var. saboten (OFI) ie, levels of key chemicals (carotenoids, flavonoids and polyphenolic compounds as well as phenolic acid) and its antioxidative potential, depending on where the plant had been cultivated in Korea. The levels of flavonoids and polyphenolic compounds in OFI were 55.45~65.32 mg (+)-catechin/g and 149.00~181.15 mg gallic acid/g, respectively. Protocatechuic acid was the most abundant phenolic acid in the ON1 and ON2 (161.90 and $196.25{\mu}g/g$ DW (dry weight)). Nineteen flavonoids were identified and analyzed by LC-ESI-MS in cladodes from OFI. Narcissin was the most abundant flavonoid in all of the samples ($1,241.89{\sim}1,775.10{\mu}g/g$ DW). Capxanthin and zeaxanthin were the most abundant carotenoids in OFI (64.88~128.08 and $48.10{\sim}93.82{\mu}g/g$ DW). The level of DPPH radical and ABTS radical scavenging activities in OFI were 10.78~25.35 and 16.85~34.16 mg AA eq/100 g, respectively. OFI by cultivar has different kind of phenolic acid, flavonoids, and carotenoids. Therefore, dietary intake of cladodes from OFI may be helpful for improving human health.

  • In the meantime Korean Insurance Industry has been developed a steady growth under government's political protection. But insurance market seems to be opened unavoidably owing to the liberalization of international trade by the Agreements of UR and the bloc of economy by EC Integration and the Organization of NAFTA. By the above reason, especially, in case of hull insurance, the rate of hull insurance is being instituted as a problem. Accordingly the recognition for the problem like this, in thsi study, explained the major objectives of rate making and described the basic rate making methods that are used in property and liability insurance, and searched the rate making schemes of hull insurance rate of the major nations by comparing method. And as a conclusion, the writer presented several schemes including new rate making scheme of hull insurance rate and the security of statistical data about loss ratio, and the establishment of Korean Hull Insurance Association.

Conservation of Dagger and Scabbard (Treasure No. 635) Excavated from Gyerim-ro, Gyeongju (경주 계림로 출토 보물 제635호 보검의 보존)

  • Conservation re-treatment of dagger and scabbard in Gyeongju National Museum, which were excavated from Gyerim-ro Tomb No. 14 (Treasure No. 635) was carried out after a wide-scale dissembling in order for publishing a report and holding a special exhibition. The interior shape of the iron dagger which was disclosed by ornament plates was confirmed by X-ray investigation. The results of XRF analysis which was used to analyse compositions of the golden ornament plates reveal that having more than 3% of copper distinguishes it from other Silla gold artifacts. The conservation treatment progressed in a way that surface contaminants were removed and insecure areas were consolidated. The original shape of the iron dagger and scabbard was found after adhering and restoration. With the ornament plates staying on the iron dagger, a stand in acrylic for display and storage was made, which is able to place the dagger and scabbard in the safest way.

Ornamented Dagger Sheath from Gyerim-ro Tomb No.14, Gyeongju: On the Joining Process of Gold Granules (경주 계림로 14호분 장식보검 금립의 접합방법에 관한 고찰)

  • In most gold objects crafted using the granulation technique that have been thus far discovered in the Korean Peninsula, granules were joined using a soldering alloy of gold and silver. However, it was recently revealed through SEM-EDS analysis performed on the ornamented dagger sheath from Gyerim-ro Tomb No.14 in Gyeongju that the gold granules were joined to the surface of this sheath using an entirely different technique. The gold granules on the Gyerim-ro dagger sheath are evenly sized and shaped, the surface has a dendritic texture. Dendritic textures are a characteristic feature of metal alloys, not observed in pure metals. As a matter of fact, the gold granules were made of a ternary alloy of 77wt% Au, 18wt% Ag and 4wt% Cu. Due to this component, the alloy has a melting point below 1000℃ (approximately 980℃), which is significantly lower than 1064℃, the melting temperature of pure gold. This makes it possible to join the gold granules directly to the surface of the sheath by briefly heating them to high temperature, without the use of soldering or any other media. When examined through SEM image, the surface of the sheath showed no traces of soldering, it suggests that the granules were joined through unaided fusion.

Chemical Composition and Physiological Activity of Opuntia ficus-indica depending on Different Cultivation Regions (재배지역별 보검선인장 줄기의 영양성분 및 생리활성 평가)

  • This study was conducted to investigate changes in the proximate composition, antioxidant activities, and ${\alpha}$-glucosidase inhibitory activity of Opuntia ficus-indica (OFI) cladodes cultivated in Jeju (JJ1, JJ2, JJ3) and Jeonnam (JN1, JN2). The difference in the proximate composition (crude protein, lipid and ash content) of OFI between the two regions was not significant. Ca, Mg and Na were the major mineral components of OFI. The ascorbic acid content of OFI ranged from 57.87 to 143.72 mg/100 g. A 70% ethanol extract was used to investigate the antioxidant content and activity as well as the ${\alpha}$-glucosidase inhibitory activity. The total polyphenol and flavonoid contents of OFI were 38.69~55.29 and 3.33~4.03 mg/g, respectively. The antioxidant activities based on the DPPH and ABTS free radical scavenging assays were 45.19~61.52% and 39.15~51.96%, respectively, at a concentration of 1 mg/mL. The inhibitory activity of OFI extracts against rat intestinal ${\alpha}$-glucosidase was 29.72~45.73% at 1 mg/mL concentration, and JN1 showed the highest ${\alpha}$-glucosidase inhibitory activity. This information could be very useful for authentication of Opuntia species with the highest potential as sources of nutritional and therapeutic elements.

A Comparative Legal Study on the Effect of the Increase of Risk in Marine Insurance (해상보검에 있어서 항검증가의 교과에 관한 비교법적 고찰)

  • A Contract of marine insurance is a contract whereby the insurer undertakes to indemnity the assurd, in manner and to the extent thereby agreed, against marine losses that is to say, the losses incident to marine adventure. But the matter is that whether the problem of increased risk in insurance law should be understood by matching to nay state under general principle of contract law and whether that we should give any effect is more proper to the original object of the system. For this, it is understood that it is a case to be applied a "clausula rebus sic stantibus" in general today, but it is regarded as the matter that whether "clausula rebus sic stantibs" is charging any position in change of risk and whether we should understood the concept of the risk on the substance of the risk. Accordingly the recognition for the problem like this, study should examine closely into whether any system for the effect of increase in change of risk is more proper and rational system provide the supplementing points through our principle of insurance law and the study by comparing method.by comparing method.

A Study on Determining Factors of Hull Insurance Rate (선박보검과준의 결정요인에 관한 연구)

  • Korean property and liability insurance companies have underwrited hull insurance without proper undrewriting ability. But after April 1996. in case of Korean insurance market being opened the companies have to make hull insurance rate by themselves. Accordingly, in this study, the writer embodies important factors in making hull insurance rate by an empirical survey. In empirical survey, the writer used a questionnaire, 74 proper data was obtained from 96 officers working in making hull insurance rate in 12 Korean property and liablity insurance companies and 24 the foreign companies at home. Reliability was tested by Cronbach's Alpha and a conceptual validity by Factor Analysis. Hypothesis estabilished in this study was tested by Correlation and Multiple Regression Analysis. Results of testing hypothesis are as follows: Firstly, the traits of insurer and the assured influence significantly(P<0.05) on making hull insurance rate. Secondly, expected loss ratio, ship manager, ship's age, insured amount, level of the cost of repairing and salvage, shipowner, period of insurance, level of overseas rating, profit and expense, trading limits, ship's classification, conditions of insurance, and ship's size influence significantly(P<0.05) on making hull insurance rate.

  • 충주호는 충청권의 생 공 농업용수로 이용되는 광역상수원이며, 2016년 기준 연간 약 3만6천톤이 방류되어 남한강 전체 수질에 큰 영향을 미친다. 현재 충주호는 상류 유역의 오염원이 적게 분포하여 1급수의 수질기준을 만족하고 있으나, 상류 유역의 개발로 오염원 유입이 증가할 경우 호소 내 수질 및 남한강 전체 수질에 악영향을 미칠 수 있다. 따라서 충주댐 상류 유역의 오염부 하량 변화에 따른 수질변화를 예측하고, 현재수질 유지를 위한 허용 오염부하량을 산정할 필요가 있다. 한편, EFDC-WASP 연계모델은 수리학적 계산을 보다 정확하게 할 수 있는 동시에 이를 수질모델에 사용할 수 있어 다수의 연구자들에 의해 호소의 수질 모델링이 이루어졌으며 적용성이 많이 검증되었다. 본 연구에서는 EFDC-WASP 연계 모형을 이용하여 충주댐 상류유역의 배출부하 변화에 따른 호내 수질특성 변화를 분석하고자 한다. 모의구간은 충주댐의 유입지점부터 방류지점까지로, 수치해석을 위한 격자망은 총 800여개의 격자로 구성하였다. 수위자료는 한강홍수통제소에서 제공하는 충주댐 수위자료를 사용하였으며, 수질자료는 환경부 호소 측정지점인 충주호1,2,3 의 자료와 하천 측정지점인 제천A과 한강B의 자료를 사용하였다. 모의기간은 2013-2015년으로 2013년은 모델의 안정기로, 2014년은 보정, 2015년은 검정에 각각 활용하였다. 보검정된 모델을 활용하여 유입부하량 변화에 따른 수질변화를 모의하였고, 1급수 수질을 만족하는 허용부하량을 도출하였다. 본 연구의 방법은 향후 호소 상류유역의 개발에 따른 수질변화 예측과 허용부하량 산정에 활용할 수 있을 것으로 기대된다.

Antioxidant and Anti-Diabetic, Anti-Alzheimer Activities of Stem from Opuntia ficus-indica var. saboten Cultivated in Jeju at Harvest Time (채취시기별 보검선인장 줄기의 항산화, 항당뇨 및 항알츠하이머 활성평가)

  • In this study, we assessed antioxidant, anti-diabetic, and anti-Alzheimer activities of Opuntia ficus-indica var. saboten (OFI) at harvest time. OFIs were cultivated December 2015~November 2016 in Jeju island. The 70% ethanol extracts of OFI were used to investigate total polyphenol and flavonoid contents, antioxidant(DPPH and ABTS radical scavenging assay), anti-diabetic(yeast ${\alpha}$-glucosidase and rat ${\alpha}$-glucosidase inhibition assay), and anti-Alzheimer(Acetylcholinesterase and butyrylcholinesterase inhibition assay) activities. Total polyphenol and flavonoid contents of OFIs were $17.40{\sim}23.11{\mu}g$ garlic acid/mg Ex and 2.17~6.22 ug (+)-catechine/mg Ex, respectively. DPPH and ABTS radical scavenging activity of OFIs were 131.98~184.90 mg ascorbic acid(AA) eq/100 g and 63.60~101.83 mg AA eq/100 g, respectively. In the anti-diabetic and anti-Alzheimer activities, 70% ethanol extracts of OFI exhibited moderate inhibition activity, compared to control (acarbose and beberine). Total polyphenol and flavonoid contents, antioxidant, anti-diabetic, and anti-Alzheimer activities were no significant differences by season, respectively. Therefore, information on comparative biological evaluations of OFI may be a beneficial in exploring functional food and drug development.
