A stereo vision, which is based on two or more images taken from different view points, is able to build three dimensional maps of its environment having various applications including robots and home networks. SAD algorithm, which is based on area-based correlation, is widely used since its regular structure provide abundant parallelism. In this paper, we present heuristic designs of SAD algorithm to meet the demands on accuracy and resource usages in various applications. The disparity abridgement and the window abridgement algorithms can be used for vision systems in low cost and small size. The window shape algorithm can be applicable when object are in specific shapes. The adaptive window algorithm work well when accuracy is the primary concern.
SVM is a machine learning method used for image processing. It is well known for its high classification performance. We have to perform multiple MAC operations in order to use SVM for image classification. However, if the resolution of the target image or the number of classification cases increases, the execution time of SVM also increases, which makes it difficult to be performed in real-time applications. In this paper, we propose an hardware architecture which enables real-time applications using SVM classification. We used parallel architecture to simultaneously calculate MAC operations, and also designed the system for several feature extractors for compatibility. RBF kernel was used for hardware implemenation, and the exponent calculation formular included in the kernel was modified to enable fixed point modelling. Experimental results for the system, when implemented in Xilinx ZC-706 evaluation board, show that it can process 60.46 fps for $1360{\times}800$ resolution at 100MHz clock frequency.

Scalable displays generate large and high resolution images and provide an immersive environment. Recently, scalable displays are built on the networked clusters of PCs, each of which has a fast graphics accelerator, memory, CPU, and storage. However, the distributed rendering on clusters is a network bound work because of limited network bandwidth. In this paper, we present a new algorithm for reducing the network bandwidth and implement it with a conventional distributed rendering system. This paper describes the algorithm called geometry tracking that avoids the redundant geometry transmission by indexing geometry data. The experimental results show that our algorithm reduces the network bandwidth up to 42%.
The demand for faster execution time and lower energy consumption has compelled architects of embedded processors to customize it to the needs of their target applications. These processors consequently provide a rich set of specialized instructions in order to enable programmers to access these features. Such an instruction is typically a $multi$-$output$$instruction$ (MOI), which outputs multiple results parallely in order to exploit inherent underlying hardware parallelism. Earlier study has exhibited that MOIs help to enhance performance in aspect of instruction counts and code size. However the earlier algorithm does not consider the register pressure. So, some selected MOIs introduce register spill/reload code that increases the code size and instruction count. To attack this problem, we introduce a novel iterated instruction selection algorithm based on the register pressure of each selected MOIs. The experimental results show the suggested algorithm achieves 3% code-size reduction and 2.7% speed-up on average.

When rendering both three-dimensional objects and photo images together, the non-photorealistic rendering results are in visual discord since the two contents have their own independent color distributions. This paper proposes a non-photorealistic rendering technique which renders both three-dimensional objects and photo images such as cartoons and sketches. The proposed technique computes the color distribution property of the photo images and reduces the number of colors of both photo images and 3D objects. NPR is performed based on the reduced colormaps and edge features. To enhance the natural scene presentation, the image region segmentation process is preferred when extracting and applying colormaps. However, the image segmentation technique needs a lot of computational operations. It takes a long time for non-photorealistic rendering for large size frames. To speed up the time-consuming segmentation procedure, we use GPGPU for the parallel computing using the GPU. As a result, we significantly improve the execution speed of the algorithm.

With the increase in capacity of photovoltaic generation systems, studies are being actively conducted to improve system efficiency. In order to develop the high performance photovoltaic power system it is required to understand the physical characteristics of the solar cell. However, solar cell models have a non-linear form with many parameters entangled and conventional methods suggested to extract the parameters of the solar cell model require some kind of assumptions, which accompanies the calculation errors, thereby lowering the accuracy of the model. Therefore, in this paper a novel method is proposed to calculate the ideality factor and reverse saturation current of the solar cell from the I-V curve measured and announced by solar cell manufacturers, derive the ideal I-V curve, and then extract the series and shunt resistances value from the difference between the ideal and measured I-V curve. Also, validity of the proposed method is demonstrated by calculating the correlation between I-V curve based on modeling parameters and I-V curve actually measured through least squares method.

In this Paper, we present a method for designing fuzzy $H_2/H_{\infty}$ controllers of delayed nonlinear systems with saturating input. Takagi-Sugeno fuzzy model is employed to represent delayed nonlinear systems with saturating input. The fuzzy control systems utilize the concept of the so-called parallel distributed compensation(PDC). Using a single quadratic Lyapunov function, the globally exponential stability and $H_2/H_{\infty}$ performance problem are discussed. And a sufficient condition for the existence of fuzzy $H_2/H_{\infty}$ controllers is given in terms of linear matrix inequalities(LMIs). The designing fuzzy $H_2/H_{\infty}$ controllers minimize an upper bound on a linear quadratic performance measure. Finally, a design example of fuzzy $H_2/H_{\infty}$ controller for uncertain delayed nonlinear systems with saturating input.

A primary study on the rapid modeling of storm surge, which is one of typical coastal disasters, for immediate forecasting in conjunction with typhoon advisories is done and tested for the typhoons Bolaven, Tembin and Sanba which attacked to Korean Peninsula on August and September in this year 2012. Semi automatic rapid computations according to JTWC typhoon advisories were performed and uploaded to the web by models SLOSH in PC and ADCIRC in parallel clusters with 64 cores having 57k nodes encompassing the North-Western Pacific region. It only takes 1 and 2 hours from taking advisory to web uploading, respectively. By comparison with observed water surface elevations for the major tidal stations after Bolaven attack it shows within RMS error of 0.17~0.19 m for surge heights and only deviates 1 hour of peak surge time in ADCIRC model. Thus it is concluded that this approach provides a frame of near real-time immediate forecasting of storm surges with satisfactions.

This paper resents a control approach for designing a fuzzy-PI controller for a synchronous generator excitation and SVC system A combination of thyristor-controlled reactors and fixed capacitors (TCR-FC) type SVC is recognized as having the must fiexible control and high speed response, which has been widely utilized in power systems, is considered and designed to improve the response of a synchronous generator, as well as controlling the system voltage A Fuzzy-PI controller for SVC system was proposed in this paper. The PI gain parameters of the proposed Fuzzy-PI controller which is a special type of PI ones are self-tuned by fuzzy inference technique. It is natural that the fuzzy inference technique should be barred on humans intuitions and empirical knowledge. Nonetheless, the conventional ones were not so. Therefore, In this paper, the fuzzy inference technique of PI gains using MMGM(Min Max Gravity Method) which is very similar to humans inference procedures, was presented and allied to the SVC system. The system dynamic responses are examined after applying all small disturbance condition.

In this paper, we present a GA(Genetic Algorithm) approach to select weighting matrices of an optimal LQ(Linear Quadratic) controller for SVC(Static VAR Compensator). A SVC, one of the FACTS(Flexible AC Transmission System), constructed by a FC(Fixed Capacitor) and a TCR(Thyristor Controlled Reactor), was designed and implemented to improve the damping of a synchronous generator, as well as to control the system voltage Also, a design of LQ controller depends on choosing weighting matrices. The selection of weighting matrices which is not a trivial solution is usually carried out by trial and error. We proposed an efficient method using GA of finding weighting matrices for optimal control law. Thus, we proved the usefulness of proposed method to improve the stability of single machine-infinite bus with SVC system by eigenvalues analysis and simulation.
