Formative Characteristics of Water Space and Scenic Spot of Baegun-dong Wonlim in Gangjin Aaun Village (강진 안운마을 백운동원림의 승경과 수공간의 조영 특성)

  • This study is aiming to acquire data for enhancing genuineness of restoration through reviewing external and internal scenery of Baegun-dong Wonlim such as Baegun-dong 8 Objects of Scenery(pines, bamboos, chrysanthemum, orchid, maehwa blossom, magnolia, fiddle and crane) and 12 Scenic Spots and reviewing internal and external scenery of Baegun-dong Wonlim such as views and scenery for plantation. For Baegun-dong 8 Young which sang songs about scenic spots of Baegun-dong Wonlim it seemed that its head words were formed through borrowing rhyming words from caption of Baegun-dong Yuseogi(白雲洞幽棲記). Accordingly it seemed these scenery secured its status of Wonlim from the beginning. Particularly the words of fiddle and crane in 琴棋書畵(Geumgisuhha) implied that playing Komungo and brushwriting were firmly rooted as romantic pursuits of classical scholars of that time. In consideration of distance upto Okpanbong which is one of 12 scenic spots of Baegun-dong radius of outer circumference is estimated to be around 1.6km. From Okgpanbong, the epicenter, Sandagyeong, Baegokmae, Hongokpok and Pungdan etc. correspond to transitional space. And inner scenery was formed with hub of thatched cottages and bowers surrounded with chrysanthemums, poenies, rhododendron, Phyllostachys bambusoides, pines and upper and lower water paths. Thus it seemed there was scenic structure of centrifugal nature as well as of multiplicity. Forms of majority of water paths with residual structure found in the country have streamlined forms on the other hand Baegun-dong water paths have straight line which almost dominate inner gardens in terms of scale and forms thus revealing its extraordinary idea and design. In order to promote genuine restoration of Baegun-dong Wonlim it will be necessary to have consideration from standpoint of managing perspective to assure presentation of gradual scenery with elements of scenic objects for outer view among 12 Scenic Spots.

Differences in Longevity Factors amongst Korean Centenarians, Octogenarians, and Sexagenarians (한국 백세인, 팔순인, 환갑인의 장수요인의 차이)

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate differences in longevity factors for 3 age groups: centenarians, octogenarians, and sexagenarians. There were 389 elderly Korean subjects who participated in this study. This included 109 centenarians who participated in the 1-wave study that examined the longevity factors using the health behaviors and psychological reactions. The study that examined the longevity factors by using odds ratio of the logistic regression analysis. The major findings indicate that female centenarians and octogenarians scored the highest in abstinence from alcoholic drinking than males from these same 2 age groups (OR=9.04, CI=4.04, 20.24). Centenarians scored higher in non-visiting hospitals (OR=11.48, CI=5.56, 23.70) and showed little emotion when watching sad scenes, upon comparison with the younger 2 age groups. Also, centenarians scored higher in laughter (OR=11.59, CI=5.04, 26.63), showing no anxiety (OR=12.49, CI=6.42, 24.32), and displaying indifference towards games, when compared with the younger 2 age groups. The findings imply that Korean centenarian leads to a life of longevity is the result not only of psychological reactions but also of health behaviors. Also, these results support future studies of improvement of longevity factors.

Effects of Reflecting Film Mulching on the Fruit Quality of Satsuma Mandarin(Citrus Unshiu Marc.) in the Plastic House. (하우스 밀감의 품질에 미치는 반사필름 멀칭 효과)

  • This study was carried out to investigate the effect of mulching materials on the fruit quality of Miyagawa Early Satsuma Mandarin in the plastic house. The mulching time was 10 days after water irrigation breakage. The mulching materials used, in order of decreasing light reflectivity, were; micro-perforated vinyl sheets, non-woven fabric film, porous black P.E. film and non-mulching(control). Peel coloration by a values in the treatment of the micro-perforated vinyl sheets showed a 6.93 increase over the control group. The a/b values were similar to this trend, but there were no significant difference among the mulching treatment groups. The glucose level of fruit juice was much higher in the mulching treatment groups as compared with that of the control group, but there was no significant difference among the mulching treatments. Fructose content in the treatment of the micro-perforated vinyl sheets a 0.31mg%.m $L^{-1}$ increase over the control group. This group also showed a 1.36%.m $L^{-1}$ increase in sucrose and a similar increase trend in total sugar. The Brix value was 0.9 $^{\circ}$Brix higher in the micro-perforated vinyl sheet group(12.4 $^{\circ}$Brix) than in the control group(11.5 $^{\circ}$Brix) which result in a significant increase with micro-perforated vinyl sheet usage. However, the acidity level did not differ significantly among mulching treatments.

Effects of Fe Substitution on Lithium Incorporation into Muscovite (백운모 내 리튬 함유에 대한 Fe 치환의 영향)

  • Li-bearing muscovite is commonly found along with trioctahedral lepidolite in granitic pegmatites. Structurally, $Li^+$ ions can replace $K^+$ ions in the interlayer (Int) of muscovite or incorporate into vacancies of the dioctahedral sheet (Sub). However, detailed mechanism of the lithium incorporation into muscovite is challenging to investigate using experimental techniques alone. In the current study, density functional theory (DFT) has been applied to examine the crystal structure and energy variation when $Li^+$ resides in the interlayer or the octahedral sheet. Depending on the position of $Li^+$ (i.e., Int vs. Sub), DFT showed significant differences in the mica's structures such as lattice parameters, sheet thickness, interlayer separation, and OH angles with respect to the ab plane. DFT further showed that, in pure muscovite, $Li^+$ has a lower energy when it is located in Int than Sub. By contrast, in the case of $Fe^{2+}$ substitution into the octahedral sheet, $Li^+$ has a lower energy in Sub than in Int. These results imply that $Li^+$ incorporates into the Al octahedral sheets only when the octahedral sheets possess structural charges, suggesting cation substitution in the octahedral sheets plays an important role in the Li incorporation mechanism into muscovite. They can also explain the experimental observation about the positive relationship between $Fe^{2+}$ and $Li^+$ amounts in Li-bearing muscovite.

Paleomagnetic Study on Cretaceous Rocks in Haenam Area (해남지역의 백악기 암석에 대한 고지자기 연구)

  • A mean characteristic remanent magnetization was obtained for the first time in Korea from volcanic and pyroclastic sedimentary rocks distributed in Haenam Area, located in southwestern part of the Korean Peninsula. The age of the prevailing rocks in this area belongs mostly to Late Cretaceous, with a few exceptions of Early Cretaceous, mainly based on K/Ar whole rock age dating. Characteristic remanent magnetizations of these have both normal and reverse polarities with antipodal direction, which were interpreted to be the primary remanent magnetizations obtained by the ambient Earth's magnetic field at the time of formation of the concerned rocks. The source magnetic minerals of the remanent magnetization has been identified as magnetite. The mean direction of characteristic remanent magnetization obtained from the Late Cretaceous rocks in this study is Dm/Im=21.4 supper(o)/57.1 supper(o) (${\alpha}_{95}=13.4^{\circ}$, k=350.0). The paleomagnetic pole position calculated from this result for the Late Cretaceous, is $72.5^{\circ}N/199.9^{\circ}E$ (dp/dm= $14.2^{\circ}/19.5^{\circ}E$), which matches well with those of 80 Ma ($76.2^{\circ}N/198.9^{\circ}E$) and 90 Ma ($76.2^{\circ}N/200.1^{\circ}E$) of the Eurasian Continent's APWP (Apparent Polar Wander Path). This result strongly indicates that the studied area, belonging to the Eurasian Continent, have suffered very little geotectonic movement after the Late Cretaceous. The deflection of declination of remanence from Early Cretaceous rocks in the study area may indicate that the micro-block was counterclockwisely rotated with vertical axis between the late of Early Cretaceous and the early of Late Cretaceous.
