Observation of the Preionization effect and Operational Characteristics of a Nitrogen Laser by a Pulse type high Voltage Power Supply (펄스형 고전압 전원에 의한 선전리 현상의 관측과 질소레이저의 동작 특성)

  • We constructed a TEA $N_2$ laser which consists of spark gap, pulse type high voltage power supply, Blumlein transmission line circuit, laser tube with Ernst electrode. We observed the self-preionization with an optical fiber in the spark gap and laser tube. The higher voltage power supplied to the Blumlein transmission line circuit, the better preionization was. An U-type transformer yielded better stability and output power than an I-type transformer. The discharge time after triggering a spark gap for the U-type transformer was also short. We obtained the stability of $2.7\%$ and output power of $36{\mu}J$ when the optimum conditions of the laser operation were spark gap distance of 6.0 mm, electrode distance in laser tube of 5.0 mm, $N_2$ gas flow rate in spark gap of 1500 cc/min, $N_2$ gas flow rate in laser tube of 4 ${\iota}$/min, output window reflectivity of $40\%$ and repetition rate of 10 Hz.

  • The ground anchor is not usually used in soft clay and loose sand, because the pullout resistance of anchors can not be guaranteed. However, there is a method to increase the capacity of anchors using electric discharge geotechnical technologies, which are also known as pulse discharge and electric-spark technologies. The pulse-discharge anchor has a bulbed (or underreamed) bond length that is expanded by high voltage electrokinetic pulse energy. 24 anchors were installed in the weathered soil and sandy clay at the Geotechnical Experimentation Site at Sungkyunkwan University in Suwon, Korea. In this study, in order to define a relation between expansion rate of the anchor diameter and ultimate load, anchor load tests were carried out in accordance with testing procedures by AASHTO (AASHTO 1990) and FHWA (Weatheb 1998). And then several anchors were exhumed to measure the diameter of the pulse discharge anchors.

  • In this study, we have analyzed the removal efficiencies of $SO_2$ and $SO_2/NO$ by the pulsed corona discharge process and investigated the effects of several process variables on those removal efficiencies systematically. The effects of process variables such as applied voltage, pulse frequency, residence time, and initial concentrations of reactants (NO, $SO_2$, $NH_3$, $H_2O$, and $O_2$) on the removal efficiency were analyzed. As the applied voltage, the pulse frequency or the residence time increases or as the $O_2$ or the $H_2O$ or the $NH_3$ concentration in the inlet feed gas stream increases, the $SO_2$ removal efficiencies and the simultaneous removal efficiencies of $SO_2/NO$ also increase. These experimental results can be used as a basis to design the pulsed corona discharge process to remove $NO_x$ and $SO_x$.

Fundamental Study of Degradation Diagnosis using AE Signals with Void Discharge in XLPE Insulation (XLPE 절연체의 트리 채널내 보이드방전에 의한 AE신호로 절연열화 검출 기법 연구)

  • In this paper, to detect and observation the void discharges pulse signal, AE signals and tree growth characteristics in case the high voltage is applied to a XLPE sample for a power cable. We also examined the partial discharge current pulse and AE signals with the increase of the applied voltage in XLPE insulation. The experimental results show that a branch-type tree grows in the presence of the voids, and a bush-type tree grows in the absence of the voids in both samples. A rate of tree growth increases abruptly in proportional to the deterioration time in the presence of the of the voids, but in the absence of the voids, a rate of tree growth decreases as time goes by and finally a breakdown occurs. The frequency band of AE signals that are generated from the partial discharges in a XLPE sample, one of solid dielectric materials, is about 1.0[MHz].

  • AC PDP의 구동방법 중 가장 대표적인 구동 법이라 할 수 있는 ADS 구동 법은 구현이 비교적 용이하고, 안정적인 구동특성으로 인하여 현재 많은 상용 AC PDP의 구동 법으로 널리 채택되고 있다. 본 논문은 현재 AC PDP의 주요 연구 분야 중에 하나인 고속 어드레싱에 관한 새로운 구동파형을 소개하였다. 기존 AD을 구동법은 초기화구간과 어드레스구간 그리고 유지구간이 명확히 분리되어 있어 FULL- HD급 화면을 구현하기 위해서 어드레싱에 소비되는 시간의 감소가 불가피하다. 이러한 문제를 해결하기 위하여 어드레스 펄스폭을 줄여주지만, 이로 인하여 불안정한 어드레싱을 초래하게 된다. AC PDP의 초기화 구간의 파형은 이후의 어드레스 특성에 중요한 영향을 끼치는데, 초기화간에 형성된 priming 입자는 어드레스 방전에 크게 도움을 준다. 본 논문은 초기화구간이 끝난 후 priming 효과가 급격히 떨어지는 80us이후에 벽전하 형성을 돕는 벽전하 가속펄스의 사용으로 짧은 어드레스 펄스폭으로 인한 불안정한 어드레싱을 보완하고, 어드레스 과정 후 유지방전 모드로의 벽전하의 형성을 빠르게 유도할 수 있어 1us의 짧은 어드레스 폭으로도 안정적인 어드레싱을 수행할 수 있도록 하였다.

  • The characteristics of single mesh discharge circiut for Xenon flashlamp has been analysised in detail. Since flashlamp voltage characteristics is linear in time, though nonlinear in current, the nonliear differential equation , for this system has beens solved by the analog computer. Also for given lamp type, energy input, pulse duration, and pulse shape factor, the inductance, capacatince and operating voltage were discussed.

  • In die and mould industry, major material such as cemented carbide is broadly used for increasing the life time and decreasing the cost. It is also required the development for the skills of wire-cut electrical discharge machining(WEDM), but the WEDMed surface was found to be worst due to the attached components of wire. Precision machining method like lapping is necessary for obtaining high quality surface. The lapping compound such as Al2O3 and SiC and cast iron lap can be used for lapping process. The components of Cu and Zn were found WEDMed surface of the specimen. As the result, the low quality of precision was obtained and the heat damage layer of the specimen was occurred. The value of surface hardness was deteriorated, and therefore finish process was required.

  • As the purpose of the breakdown prediction of three degradation of insulating materials caused by partial discharge occurring at various defects in the polymer insulator itself and at the interfaces between electrodes and the insulating materials. Treeing due to partial discharge os one of the main causes of breakdown of the insulating materials. Recently, the necessity of establishing the way to diagnoses the aging of insulation materials and to predict of insulation breakdown become improtant. The purpose of our work are to use acoustic emission System and fractal dimension and to investigated the treeing phenomena in polymeric insulation under appliec AC voltage 11[kV] with an artificial needleshaped void(1.5[mm]) using the above system.

  • In this study, a solid-state laser system adopting a new real time multi-discharge (RTMD) method in which three flashlamps are turned on consecutively was designed and fabricated to examine the pulse width and the pulse shape of the laser beams depending upon the changes in the lamp rum-on time. That is, this study shows a technology that makes it possible to make various pulse shapes by turning on three flashlamps consecutively on a real-time basis with the aid of a PIC one-chip microprocessor. With this technique, the lamp turn-on delay time can be varied more diversely from 0 to 10 ms and the real-time control is possible with an external keyboard, enabling various pulse shapes. In addition, longer pulses can be more widely used for industrial processing and lots of medical purposes

A New Driving Method Generating Self-Erasing Discharge to Improve Luminous Efficiency in AC PDP (AC PDP에서 휘도효율을 향상시키기 위하여 자기소거 방전을 발생시키는 새로운 구동방법)

  • A new sustain driving method is proposed to improve luminous efficiency by the generation of the self-erasing discharge during a sustain period in AC plasma display panel. As one subfield time in the conventional AC PDP is divided into the reset, address, and sustain period. Among them, as the square sustain waveform is alternately applied to the X and Y electrodes on the front plate during the sustain period, the plasma discharge for displaying the image is continuously produced. Meanwhile, in the conventional driving method, the address waveform applied to the A electrode on the rear plate is only driving during an address period and grounded during a sustain period. In this experiment, the negative pulse is applied to the A electrode at the latter part of the sustain pulse for improving the luminous efficiency producing the self-erasing discharge during the sustain period. The negative pulse on the A electrode can change from the space to the wall charge and induce the additional discharge by the accumulated wall charge when the voltages of three electrodes are grounded. As a result, the luminous efficiency will be measured with changes in the voltage level of the A electrode and the new driving method can be improved to the luminous efficiency about 32 % compared with the conventional driving method.
