Operation strategy of terrestrial broadcasting system on channel image and N-screen service (지상파 방송사의 채널 이미지와 N-스크린 서비스 운영 전략)

  • This study was to examine the operation strategy of terrestrial broadcasting system on channel image and N-screen service. Nowadays, terrestrial broadcasting system provides video streaming service based on internet. In other words, terrestrial broadcasting system provides N-screen service through TV-PC-Smart phone-Tablet PC. But it is different for terrestrial broadcasting system to analysis the choice criterion of program. Only, channel image of terrestrial broadcasting system expanded into N-screen. Finally, channel image of terrestrial broadcasting system is the competition strategy. It is necessary for terrestrial broadcasting system to prepare the strategy of program choice for users, original contents, new platform and service in connection with N-screen.

  • The purpose of this research is to seek for improvements in the services provided by the Korean broadcasting services overseas that face stagnation in the industry. Therefore, the research bases its observation on analyzation of the influences the principal attributes of the broadcasting service contents has on the satisfaction of the overseas Korean viewers. This research classifies broadcasting services into three categories; degree of completion, effectiveness, and public interest. It further established such elements and the internal and external cognitive factors of broadcasting company as factors of direct influence on the level of satisfaction. This study suggests practical alternatives as solution through comparative analysis between the group with low viewer rating and the group with high viewer rating in accordance to the above mentioned research framework.

A Study on the Online Information Services of Broadcasting Video Data: Focusing on Public Broadcasting (방송 영상자료의 온라인 기록정보서비스에 관한 연구: 공영방송을 중심으로)

  • In recent years, many users preferred video records, and as the broadcasting video data becomes necessary, the demand for video records' use has increased. However, most broadcasters' archive agencies currently provide archive services only for internal employees, and for the general public. In this study, the web-based online information services provided to the general public in the archive sites of domestic and foreign public broadcasting companies were examined and analyzed. The evaluation criteria for the web-based records information services were identified in three service areas: online accessibility, search and online browsing, and outreach or expansion services. The overseas public broadcasters' web-based services and the public broadcasting companies' current status were examined for each area. Based on the examination, direction improvements, such as providing online search and records, developing various outreach services, and expanding user levels were proposed for the information services on broadcasting video data in public broadcasting companies for the general public.

Research on Archive Opening and Sharing Projects of Korean Terrestrial Broadcasters and External Users of Shared Archives : Focusing on the Case of the 5.18 Footage Video Sharing Project 〈May Story(Owol-Iyagi)〉 Contest Organized by KBS (국내 지상파 방송사의 아카이브 개방·공유 사업과 아카이브 이용자 연구 KBS 5.18 아카이브 시민공유 프로젝트 <5월이야기> 공모전 사례를 중심으로)

  • This paper focus on the demand for broadcast and video archive contents by users outside broadcasters as the archive openness and sharing projects of terrestrial broadcasters have become more active in recent years. In the process of creating works using broadcasters' released video footage, the study examined the criteria by which video footage is selected and the methods and processes utilized for editing. To this end, the study analyzed the the case of the 5.18 footage video sharing project 〈May Story(Owol-Iyagi)〉 contest organized by KBS in 2022, in which KBS released its footage about the May 18 Democratic Uprising and invited external users to create new content using them. Analyzing the works that were selected as the winners of the contest, the research conducts in-depth interviews with the creators of each work. As a result, the following points are identified. Among the submitted works, many works deal with the direct or indirect experience of the May 18 Democratic Uprising and focus on the impact of this historical event on individuals and our current society. The study also examined the ways in which broadcasters' footage is used in secondary works. We found ways to use video as a means to share historical events, or to present video as evidence or metaphor. It is found that the need for broadcasters to provide a wider range of public video materials such as the May 18 Democratic Uprising, describing more metadata including copyright information before releasing selected footage, ensuring high-definition and high-fidelity videos that can be used for editing, and strengthening streaming or downloading functions for user friendliness. Through this, the study explores the future direction of broadcasters' video data openness and sharing business, and confirms that broadcasters' archival projects can be an alternative to fulfill public responsibilities such as strengthening social integration between regions, generations, and classes through moving images.

  • The news coverage of Sewol Ferry catastrophe has reprimanded from numbers of people because of false reports and mediamorphosis such as distorted news. Thus, the purpose of this study is to examine the news coverage of television news programs about the Sewol Ferry catastrophe. Specifically, this study was conducted to figure out problems with the disaster news reports of several broadcasting stations such as, KBS, MBC, SBS and JTBC. Furthermore, the study also explores about how they reported without following the rules of disaster news coverage and policy of disaster news coverage by content analysis.

  • In the era of the rapid change of broadcasting industry, Korean terrestrial TV, dominant player, face also to severe competition with the new media platforms. To survive in the traditional market and to be winner in the new market, they tend to diverse their activities. Particularly, they expand the activities to the content business. Therefore, this study focus on the diversification of 3 major free TV, KBS, MBC, SBS. As a result, Korean terrestrial TV still dominate content industry with their enormous library and their distribution networks : they conflict with the independent companies and do the contents business exclusively. There are no rooms for the independent distributor. Among 3 players, the strategies of SBS have been oriented to the business and in the field of MPP(Multiple program Provider), the performance of MBC has been remarkable.

  • This study analyzed the accomplishment of the outsourcing production policy which forces broadcasting companies to schedule and broadcast more than a certain proportion of outsourcing production programs. According to the results from the examination of whether or not the policy increased the diversity of broadcasting programs, it is positive that a rise in the number of production companies resulting from the implementation of the outsourcing production policy increased the diversity of broadcasting program makers, but programs supplied were limited to certain genres, failing to be diverse. According to the results from the examination of whether or not the competitiveness of broadcasting and video contents increased, production conditions had not improved due to the controversy over the ownership of the right of production between terrestrial broadcasting companies and outsourcing production companies. In addition, though there was the positive effect of increasing export of broadcasting programs, the exports were limited to certain genres.

  • The current e-CRM has been used in various types of e-business. Since the study of e-CRM for the promotion of online community sites are rarely studied, we attempt to analyze the case of broadcasting and suggest the promotion model focusing on the characteristic factors for a successive online community. That is, as a result of analyzing the online community cases for broadcasting, we know that the Internet community site of broadcasting has grown in the order of contents, community and then commerce. According to the case analysis, we have presented an e-CRM promotion model consisting of four phases: customer attraction, customer maintenance, customer enhancement, and customer activation. The e-CRM model suggested in this study may be used as a theoretical basis and practical guideline for further research in relation to e-CRM and e-business.

  • 본 논문에서는 인터넷상으로 제공되는 방송정보의 현황을 살펴보았다. 우선 인터넷 방송정보가 뛰어 넘어야 할 벽은 만족할만한 화질과 음질을 적당한 시간대어 제공하는 것이기 때문에 인터넷에서 제공되는 방송정보의 전송 기술에 관하여 간단히 살펴보았다. 인터넷방송정보를 크게 기존 방송사어서 방영되었던 내용을 제공하는 서비스와 인터넷 전용 방송사나 신문사 등 인터넷 상에서 새롭게 영상정보를 제공하는 서비스로 나누어서 살펴 보자는데 기존 방송사의 멀티미디어 서비스는 점차 그 내용이 다채로와지고 또한 제공 형식도 온 디맨드로 바뀌는 중이다. 하지만 아직은 각 방송사의 인터넷 정보 서비스는 독자적인 매체로서 제공하는 정보라기 보다는 기존 방송 서비스를 보완하는 정보로서의 성격이 더 짙은 것으로 보인다. 인터넷상에서 새롭게 제공되는 멀티미디어 영상 서비스는 영상자료 확보의 어려움 때문에 처음에 기대했던만큼 발전되지 못하고 있는 실정이다. 즉, 현재의 인터넷 멀티미디어 방송 정보 서비스는 아직 경제성이 없다고 볼 수 있다. 하지만 앞으로는 전송기술과 압축기술의 발달로 인터넷 멀티미디어 정보 제공 여건이 개선됨에 따라 여러 업계에서 점점 인터넷 멀티미디어 방송정보 제공에 더 많은 관심을 기울이고 있는 실정이다.

  • 방송유통이 중요하고 방송시장의 과제이다. 드라마외에도 다큐멘터리가 꾸준히 수출이 증가되는 추세이다. 콘텐츠 부가가치 창출과 고용확산을 위해 방송사와 제작사는 국내외 유통에 눈을 돌려야 하는 게 맞다. 여기서 흔한 질문 하나. "독립제작사가 어렵다고 하는 데, 수출 유통을 하면 쉽게 부가수익을 창출하지 않을까? 왜 안하지?" 그건 배고픈데 빵이 없으면 쿠키를 대신 먹으면 되지 않을 까하는 질문과 같다. 저작권을 방송사와 소유하는 것도 중요하고, 그 보다 사전기획과 제작을 해서, 수입이 생길때까지 회사가 '버텨내야 한다'. 유통한다고 수익이 바로 입금되는 것은 아니다. 한국의 방송콘텐츠 기획은 훌륭하다. 인구 5천만명의 나라에서, 한국어를 쓰는 나라가 많지 않음에도 우리 모국어로 많은 나라에서 보고있다는 것은 대단한 것이다. 또한 세계 거리에 싸이와 소녀시대가 울려퍼지는 것은 대단하다. 그것은 미디어를 염두 해둔 한글창제자부터, 대중산업을 이끄는 모든 한국 제작자들은 훌륭하다. 지금은 방송사와 제작사가 해외진출에 눈을 돌리고 있으며, 많은 성과를 내고 있다. 향 후 방송콘텐츠산업의 부가가치 향상과 발전을 위해서 좀더 많은 작품이 해외에 나가야 한다. 그렇게 하기위해서 해외에 더욱 적극적으로 진출을 모색하기 앞서, 글로벌 기획을 할 때 염두하여야 할 점을 정리해보겠다.
