  • This study is about the limits of GTEM cell using correlation factor between the OATS(Open area Test Site) and the GTEM cell. First, the field strengths at the 10 m distance OATS and in GTEM cell to obtain the experimental correlation factor are measured. Also, the EMI limits of radiated power are derived in GTEM cell as 3 position method is inversely transformed. The field strengths that calculated from theoretical models by 3 and 15 position methods are programmed and compared with measured data at the OATS. As the EMI limits of GTEM cell is newly defined, it will be use to substitute GTEM cell for OATS to efficiently measure EMI(Electromagnetic Interference).

  • The decomposition of all the individual chemicals used in the Harwell inactive vitrification pilot plant has been studied by means of a thermal balance. Weight loss curves to 110$0^{\circ}C$ have been obtained. The four materials (sodium nitrate, cesium nitrate, lithium nitrate and ruthenium nitroso-nitrate solution) showed a greater weight loss than that based on an oxide yield, and hence these compounds of their products of decomposition are volatile below 110$0^{\circ}C$. The remaining materials suffered a weight loss no more than that corresponding to a full yield of the oxide, and hence they were not volatile below 110$0^{\circ}C$. Most of chemicals begin to decompose at less than 75$^{\circ}C$ but the nitrates of cesium, strontium, barium and sodium not until 295$^{\circ}C$ to 59$0^{\circ}C$. The results obtained can be used in the analysis of process conditions in the vitrification and calcination of highly radioactive wastes and also of the thermal decomposition behaviour of mixtures containing those materials.

  • This paper deals with an experimental study to apply commercial semiconductors to measure radiation dose rate for gamma ray. Since the low cost, small size, high efficiency and ruggedness of silicon photodiodes make them attractive photodetectors, they coulde be effectively used in measuring any radiation such as gamma ray. Most PN photodiodes show that the reverse current increases when the light is increased. Therefore the depletion region of them have influence on the reverse current, so we choose silicon PIN photodiodes with large depletion region. In order to detect radiation dose rate and then, to apply in developing any gamma ray dosimeter, some examinations and experiments were performed to PIN photodiodes in this work. Two kinds of PIN photodiodes, such as NEC's PH302 and SIEMENS's BPW34, were tested in a Co-60 gamma irradiation facility with a semiconductor parameter analyzer. As a result, we found that such PIN photodiodes present good linearity in diode current characteristics with dose rate. Therefore silicon PIN photodiodes could be suitably used in designing gamma ray dosimeters.

  • Electronic Toll Collection (ETC) System makes the telecommunication possible between the Beacon and the On Board Unit(OBU) for automatic toll collection. In this paper, the propagation path of microwave is modelled and the induced voltage of receiving antenna is analyzed numerically according to multi-path fading effect. In our modelling, we consider frequency, weather condition, polarization and antenna radiation pattern. Also, we suggest the diversity technique in order to reduce the fading effect. In the resuts, the fading effect is reduced significantly in case of the vertical polarization at the rain condition. In general the circular polarization is the most desirable in this application. The antenna which has the high directivity, is also desirable. Using the space and frequency diversity technique at the Beacon, the fading effect is reduced effectively. These results are compared with our experimental data.

  • To understand characteristics of biogeochemical corrosion for the metal canisters that usually contain the radioactive wastes for a long-term period below the ground, some metal materials consisting of cast iron and copper were reacted for 3 months with D. desulfuricans, a sulfate-reducing bacterium, under a reducing condition. During the experiment, concentrations of dissolved metal ions were periodically measured, and then metal specimen and surface secondary products were examined using the electron microscopy to know the chemical and mineralogical changes of the original metal samples. The metal corrosion was not noticeable at the absence of D. desulfuricans, but it was relatively greater at the presence of the bacterium. In our experiment, darkish metal sulfides such as mackinawite and copper sulfide were the final products of biogeochemical metal corrosion, and they were easily scaled off the original specimen and suspended as colloids. For the copper specimen, in particular, there appeared an accelerated corrosion of copper in the presence of dissolved iron and bacteria in solution, probably due to a weakening of copper-copper binding caused by a growth of other phase, iron sulfide, on the copper surface.

  • This paper dealt with the fabrication and performance evaluation of the electronics housing made of lightweight composite materials, aiming at the enhancement of satellite mass savings by replacing conventional aluminum alloy widely used for satellite avionics with lightweight composite material. For this purpose, a fabrication process was designed to overcome low machinability of CFRP and to minimize the post-treatment. The composite housing with grid-stiffened and monolithic frame was made using co-curing method. Its performance was also evaluated regarding endurance, stiffness, thermal conductivity, electrical grounding, EMI protection and radiation shielding. The composite housing can provide the considerable mass savings over the aluminum housing with same dimension.

  • When a metal oxide field effect transistor (MOSFET) is exposed to ionizing radiation, electron/hole pairs are generated in its oxide layer. The slow moving holes of them are trapped in the oxide layer of p-MOSFET and appear as extra charges that change the characteristics of the transistor. The radiation-induced charges directly impact the threshold (turn-on) voltage of the transistor. This paper describes the use of the radiation-induced threshold voltage change as an accumulated radiation dose monitoring sensor. Two kinds of commercial p-type MOSFETS were tested in a Co-60 gamma irradiation facility to see their capabilities as a radiation dosimeter. We found that the transistors showed good linearity in their threshold voltage shift characteristics with radiation dose. The results demonstrate the potential use of commercial p-MOSFETS as inexpensive radiation sensors for the first time.

  • Image fusion techniques are widely used to integrate a lower spatial resolution multispectral image with a higher spatial resolution panchromatic image. However, the existing techniques either cannot avoid distorting the image spectral properties or involve complicated and time-consuming decomposition and reconstruction processing in the case of wavelet transform-based fusion. In this study a simple spectral preserve fusion technique: the Smoothing Filter-based Replacement(SFR) is proposed based on a simplified solar radiation and land surface reflection model. By using a ratio between a higher resolution image and its low pass filtered (with a smoothing filter) image, spatial details can be injected to a co-registered lower resolution multispectral image minimizing its spectral properties and contrast. The technique can be applied to improve spatial resolution for either colour composites or individual bands. The fidelity to spectral property and the spatial quality of SFM are convincingly demonstrated by an image fusion experiment using IKONOS panchromatic and multispectral images. The visual evaluation and statistical analysis compared with other image fusion techniques confirmed that SFR is a better fusion technique for preserving spectral information.

  • Purpose : The purpose of this study was to develop the radiographic technique for detecting the demineralization which is known as indication of dental caries. Materials and Methods: This technique was based on the comparing of multiple radiographs which was irradiated by multiple X-ray spectra. For the meaningful comparing, the multiple radiographs were reconstructed to the dosimetrically consistent images using a standard material. The difference of resulting images of same target with multiple spectra represents the difference of response of material as regards the spectra. Results : We have found about 10% of demineralization of dental hard tissues particularly in the proximal region through the analyzing of differences. Conclusion: Most intriguing thing in this investigation was that the method to analyze difference shows us to an anatomic structure of dental hard tissues even if absolute values of optical density were excluded during the procedures. • In This paper, We designed the scintillation detector for measuring radiation signals in units of pixels for a radiation source that is distributed in the space. And we carried out a study to design a radiation imaging by the module for obtaining the detection signal. For measuring radiation distribution we configure a radiation detector combining CsI(Tl) scintillator and a photodiode. In addition, its performance was verified via gamma irradiation test.
