Analysis on Flow Control Method for Simultaneous Fuel Filling of the Korea Space Launch Vehicle-II (한국형발사체 연료 동시충전을 위한 유량제어 방식에 대한 고찰)

  • To lunch the Korea Space Launch Vehicle-II(KSLV-II), the second launch complex will be constructed on the Naro Space Center and Kerosene Filling System (KFS) will be also installed newly. KFS of KSLV-II launch complex system is being designed based on Naro Launch Complex. But this must supply fuel to fuel tanks of the vehicle with only a supply pump because KSLV-II is a 3-stage launch vehicle unlike Naro Launch Vehicle or Test Launch Vehicle (TLV). A sudden rise of pump output pressure is recognized during fuel filling scenario selection process. This occurs because return flow can not actively deal with a lot of flow change using flow control method of orifice type. To solve this problem, it is verified that fuel can be stably supplied by installation of accumulator and an appropriate adjustment of filling mode change sequence through flow analysis of various cases.

  • 우주발사체의 개발은 대규모 자본이 들어가는 국가적 과제로 그 성공 여부는 물질적 측면을 떠나서 국가의 위상을 나타내고 국민에게 자부심을 부여하는 중요한 과제라 말할 수 있다. 발사체 개발의 성공을 위해서는 전체 시스템과 각 부속 시스템들의 신뢰성 확보가 반드시 필요하다고 말할 수 있다. 발사체 시스템을 구성하고 있는 부속 시스템중 발사 성공에 가장 중요한 역할을 하는 것이 추진기관이다. 따라서 신뢰성 있는 추진기관의 개발이야말로 전체 시스템의 신뢰도를 좌우하며 성공적인 로켓 발사를 이루기 위한 필수 요소라고 말할 수 있다. 본 연구에서는 과거 본 연구원의 과학로켓 개발 경험을 바탕으로 앞으로 진행될 소형위성발사체에 적용할 추진기관의 신뢰도 평가에 대하여 소개하고자 한다.

  • There is close correlation between the reliability of the launch vehicle and the leakage of the propellants or gases from the launch vehicle. This paper describes the definition of the leak rate to determine the quantity of the leakage and introduce the unit conversion of the leak rate. The main parameters for the leak rate were considered. The requirements for the gaseous for the leak test of launch vehicle and various leak test methods were introduced. Leak test method and procedure used in space launch vehicle were briefly described.

  • 많은 비용을 투입하여 개발된 위성은 성공적인 발사를 통해 궤도 진입을 하며, 초기 운영을 통해 안정적인 운영이 가능하다. 발사 직전부터 위성의 최초 접속 시간 사이에 발사장 점검 팀과 위성 운영 팀 간의 업무 협조에 따라 초기 위성의 궤도 확인, 통신 링크 형성 및 상태 확인 등 정상적인 임무 수행 가능 여부의 성패가 결정된다고 해도 과언이 아니다. 이를 위해 참여한 각 팀 간의 유기적인 업무 협조 절차를 수립하고, 사전 예행 연습 (리허설)을 통한 세부 절차의 보완이 필수적이다. 본 논문은 위성의 발사 당일 작업을 위해 수립한 세부 절차를 중심으로, 사전 점검을 통한 보완을 위해 수립한 리허설 계획을 설명한 후 그 결과에 따라 확인된 개선 사항에 대해 기술한다. 특히 발사업체에서 제공하는 시설 및 시스템 점검 사항, 리허설 계획 수립 시 고려할 사항 및 리허설 수행 후 개선 사항들을 정리한다.

  • The mechanical ground support equipment of a Korea Space Launch Vehicle-II launch complex is a collection of systems used for transporting, erecting and lowering the launch vehicle. It also provides an interface for supplying propellants. In this paper, compositions, functions and design results of mechanical ground support equipment are introduced. Additionally, the operational concept of each piece of equipment is presented with operation procedure.

  • The umbilical system used for launch vehicle is to connect all ground supply lines (Pneumatic, hydraulic and electrical) to launch vehicle and disconnect those at few second before launch vehicle lift-off (or simultaneously with launch vehicle lift-off). During launch preparation stage, all umbilical shall be securely connected and also at separation stage, separation of all umbilical line shall be guaranteed. Therefore finding an appropriate connection force is a key factor on development of umbilical system. According to these design requirement, various kind of umbilical system has been developed from early stage of space development till today. In this paper, various kind of umbilical system developed so far is introduced according to its feature and operational concept. Also, umbilical system used for KSLV-II is introduced

  • Air-launch means launching from aircraft such as fighter jets, and has various advantages, such as cost reduction and less environmental/weather impact during launch. However, there are no air-launch satellite in Korea. Examining air-based launch satellite and anti-satellite missiles operated and developed by foreign private companies and various countries confirmed the necessity of domestic research and development. In South Korea, various research activities, including satellite launch system design and development approaches for different launch platforms, have been carried out mainly by academia. Development of upward maneuver air launch technology which is launched in the air when the aircraft is moving upward is suggested. Additionally, an introduction to wind tunnel tests for safety separation verification is provided. A new concept for a test facility has been suggested to conduct drop tests.

  • 본 논문은 우주 발사 비행체가 지구 재진입 할 때의 유도제어에 관한 것이다. 우주 발사 비행체의 재진입궤적은 재진입 할 때의 특징에 따라 여러 단계로 나누어진다. 저항가속도는 각 단계에 따라 알맞은 파라메터로 표현되며, 해석적인 저항가속도로 단순화된 궤적으로 표현한다. 본 연구는 현재의 이란적인 궤적방법과 예측방법의 각각의 장점에 의한 혼합유도방법을 표현하였다. 제안된 유도방법을 이용한 우주 발사 비행체의 재진입 모의실험의 결과는 혼합유도방법이 지구대기 재진입 할 때 간단하고 효과적인 유도방법임을 보여주었다.

Trend Analysis based Strategy Evaluation for Launch Vehicle Industry in Korea (한국의 우주발사체 산업 발전을 위한 우주발사서비스 시장진입 전략 평가)

  • This paper suggests the significant strategies and their priority to deal with space transportation market trends. First, market trends related with technical improvement and change in demand are analyzed by the literature research. The three key trends are obtained: 'Increasing Demand of High-Performance Launch Vehicles', 'Rising of Low-Price Launch Vehicles', and 'Rising of Dual/Multi-Launch'. And then, strategies for developing the launch vehicle industry in Korea are selected from several studies about commercialization of Korean launch vehicle. The strategies are evaluated by the experts through pairwise comparison matrix and the criteria for this process is how significantly does the strategy effect on the launch vehicle industry through market assessment. As a result, reliable order of priority among the strategies are obtained. Under the three key trends, strategy to enhance reliability is most important. And, strategy to have price competitiveness has secondary priority to deal with 'Rising of Low-Price Launch Vehicles' trend and 'Rising of Dual/Multi-Launch' trend. On the contrary, strategy of government's support is secondary under 'Increasing Demand of High-Performance Launch Vehicles' trend.
