Measurements of Adhesion Strength Using Scratch Test (스크래치 시험을 통한 접합력 측정)

  • 코팅 층과 소지 사이의 접합력 평가를 위하여 박리 시험법(Peel Off Test), 블리스터 시험법(Blister Test), 압입균열 시험법(Indentation Test), 직접 인장 시험법(Direct Full Off Test), 스카치 테이프 시험법(Scotch Tape Test), 그리고 스크래치 시험법(Scratch Test) 등이 사용되어 왔다. 이 중 박리 시험법과 스카치 테이프 시험법이 산업계에서 일반적으로 사용되고 있다. 전자 산업계에서 많이 사용되고 있는 박리시험법은 금속박막과 절연체 기판 사이의 접합력을 간단하게 측정할 수 있으며, 실험값의 재현성이 뛰어난 장점이 있다. 또한, 측정하는 동안 만들어지는 박리 곡선(Peel Curve)로부터 분석의 신뢰성 여부를 확인할 수 있다. 이러한 장점에도 불구하고 박리 시험법 특성 상 금속 코팅층의 강도가 금속 피막/기판간 접합 강도를 초과하여야 하기 때문에 수백 nm 이하의 박막의 접합력 측정에는 적용하기가 어렵다. 이에 반하여, 스카치 테이프 분석법은 일정길이의 접착 테이프를 박막 표면에 붙인 후 다시 떼어내면서 접착력을 평가하는 방법으로, 박막의 접합력 평가에 적용이 가능하다. 그러나 이 방법은 합격 불합격 여부를 판정하는 정성적인 방법으로 정량평가가 어렵다. 또한, 박막에 접착 테이프를 붙일때의 압력, 테이프를 박리할 때의 각도 및 속도를 일정하게 제어하기가 쉽지 않아 결과의 신뢰성이 높지 않다. 스크래치 테스트는 탐사침(Stylus)을 이용하여 박막의 표면에 하중을 증가시키면서 기판을 이동하여, 피막의 균열이나 박리될 때의 임계 하중값 (Critical Load; Lc)을 측정하는 방법이다. 이 방법은 시편 준비가 쉽고 간단하여 빠른 분석이 가능하고, 수백 nm 이하의 박막에도 적용 가능하다. 또한, 접합력을 정량화 할 수 있기 때문에 변수에 따른 접합력 비교가 용이하다는 장점이 있다. 이와 같은 분석적 장점에도 불구하고, 스크래치 시험을 통한 접합력 측정 방법은 아직까진 산업적으로 널리 활용되지 못하고 있다. 따라서, 본 연구에서는 스크래치 테스트의 원리 및 이론에 대하여 간략히 알아보고, 스크래치 분석을 이용한 접합력 비교에 대한 실제 사례들을 소개하고자 하였다.

Numerical Simulation of the Delamination Behavior of Polymeric Adhesive Tapes Using Cohesive Zone Element (응집 영역 요소를 이용한 고분자 접착 테이프의 박리거동 모사)

  • Metal and polymer sandwich composites, which are made of sheet metal sheath and polymer or fiber reinforced plastic core, have been reconsidered as an alternative to sheet metal due to their lightness and multifunctional properties such as damping and sound-proof properties. For the successful applications of these composites, the delamination prediction based on the adhesion strength is important element. In this study, the numerical simulation of the delamination behavior of polymeric adhesive tapes with metallic surfaces was performed using cohesive zone elements and finite element software. The traction-separation law of the cohesive zone element was defined using the fracture energy derived from peel mechanics and experimental results from peel test and implemented in finite element software. The peel test of the polymeric adhesive film against steel surface was simulated and compared with experiments, demonstrating reasonable agreement between simulation and experiment.

Physical Properties of Fabric E-Glass Fiber Reinforced Laminated Timber (II) - Peeling and vapor adsorption properties - (직물유리섬유강화 집성재의 물리적 특성(제2보) - 박리 및 흡습성 -)

  • This study was conducted to estimate peeling and vapor adsorption properties made with fabric glass fiber reinforced laminated timber according to our earlier report(Jung et al., 2002). In adsorption peeling test, three all types solid wood were not appeared the peeling. However, solid wood appeared to the peeling in boiling peeling test except for control wood. Vapor adsorption test was performed at 40℃, 90% relative humidity for 48 hours. Cross sections were not different all solid wood. Radial section and tangential section with glass fiber were delayed vapor adsorption compared to control wood. In anisotropy of vapor adsorption, solid wood with glass fiber were small values.

Bonding Performance of Glulam Reinforced with Glass Fiber-Reinforced Plastics (유리섬유강화플라스틱 복합집성재의 접착성능)

  • This study was carried out to investigate whether adhesive used in manufacturing glulam can be used to bond wood and GFRP, when considering working process and economical efficiency. The six different glulams were manufactured, changing the adhesives and the mixing ratios of the adhesives, and investigated by the block shear test and the delamination of the water soaking or boiling water soaking. The three glulams were manufactured, using the resocinol resin based adhesive, the PVAc resin based adhesive and the epoxy resin adhesive, and the other three glulams, using the adhesives mixing resocinol resin and PVAc resin. The block shear strength is higher than $7.1N/mm^2$ in all types, which is standard of KS F3021. However, in the wood failure the block shear strength was the highest as 65.9% in the PVAc. The delamination of glulams glued with PVAc adhesive, which was 1.08% in water soaking and 4.16% in boiling water soaking, was lower than 5.00% which is the standard of KS F 3021, and the adhesive strength is good. In glulams glued with only resocinol resin adhesive, the wood layers were good as 1.26% in the water soaking delamination and 0.00% in the boiling water soaking delamination. The GFRP layers were not good as 21.85% in the water soaking delamination but were good as 1.45% in the boiling water soaking delamination.

  • Especially, when orthotropic material such as uni-dierectionally woven Carbon Fiber Sheet, resisting only the unidirectional tension, is used to strengthening bridge deck, the direction and width of the strengthening material should be considered very carefully. Thus, analysis of the failure characteristics and the premature failure mechanism of the strengthened decks based on the test results are required. In this study, the premature failure due to the interface debonding of strengthening material of the strengthened deck slab are inquired into failure mechanism through both experiments results and analyses with prototype strengthened deck specimens using carbon fiber sheet.   • 오-스테나이트계 스테인레스강을 용접육성한 강판의 박리균열의 원인에 대하여 강중의 수소거동을 중심으로 고찰해 보았다. 강중의 수소온도 분포를 추정하는데는 확산 방정식을 기초로하여 수치해석이 유력하며 그 기초적사항에 대해 제문헌을 인용하여 설명했으며, 또 시험편에 대하여 계산과 실험치의 결과를 이용하여 비교하였다. 이들로부터 박리균열의 발생에 대한 미시적 임계조건을 도출하여, 이들이 한정된 실험의 범위내이지만 실증할 수 있음을 나타내었다. 그러나 박리균열의 원인의 하나인 잔류응력에 대해서는 아직 불명한 점이 많으나, 냉각속도에 따라 변화하며 그것이 수소농도라고 하는 관점에서 미시적 임계조건에 영향을 미칠 수 있음을 시사하고 있다.

A study on the adhesion of HTPB liner and PCP propellant (HTPB 라이너와 PCP 추진제와의 접착에 관한 연구)

  • The study of compatible liner with ADP-505 propellant based PCP was performed. HTPB/DDl was chosen as a binder of liner in order to prohibit migration of nitroester plasticizer from propellant. The possible formulations for liner were screened by peel test of EPDM insulation/liner, propellant/liner and insulation/liner/propellant. Also, the adhesion tests including tension and shear were conducted. The adhesion of liner and propellant fumed out to be very good. The peel value was shown 1.5∼1.8 daN/cm, tensile force was 5.5∼6.0bar and shear force was 4.2∼5.0bar. In the samples of insulation/liner/propellant, they also have shown good adhesion properties. The peel, tensile and shear strength were 1.8 daN/cm, 5.0∼6.0bar and 4.5∼5.0bar, respectively.

Evaluation of Moisture Susceptibility on Asphalt Mixtures mixing Anti-Stripping Agent (박리방지제의 첨가에 따른 아스팔트 혼합물의 수분민감성 평가)

  • This study is to evaluate the property for the moisture susceptibility of asphalt mixtures using anti-stripping agent. Asphalt mixtures using lime, hydrated lime and liquid anti-stripping agent are evaluated through the three types of modified moisture conditioning($H_c$, V_s$, F-T). Indirect Tensile Test, that is recommended by AASHTO TP-9, which includes creep test, resilient modulus test and strength test is used to estimate moisture susceptibility. Analysis method through Energy Ratio(ER) that is proposed by Roque at University of Florida is used to evaluate moisture susceptibility and moisture resistance effects of asphalt mixtures using anti-stripping agent. As a test result, material property of asphalt mixtures was changed by moisture conditioning methods and the types of anti-stripping agent. Also, cracking resistance of accumulated moisture damage was changed by moisture conditioning methods and the types of anti-stripping agent. Based on test result, it was found that cracking resistance using Energy Ratio was differed from 10% to 30%.

Adhesive Performance and Fracture Toughness Evaluation of FRP-Reinforced Laminated Plate (FRP 보강적층판의 접착성능 및 파괴인성평가)

  • In order to replace existing slit type steel plate on the wooden structure joint, the FRP-reinforced laminated plates were produced. Four types of FRP-reinforced laminated plates were produced according to the type of reinforcement and adhesive, and before applying to the joint, the adhesion performance test according to KSF 3021 and KSF 2160 and the Compact Tension (CT) type fracture toughness test specified in ASTM D5045-99 were carried out. As a result of adhesion performance test, all GFRP textile, GFRP sheet, and GFRP Textile-Sheet type FRP-reinforced laminated plates satisfied the requirement of soaking delamination percentage with smaller than 5% based on KS standard. However, aramid type specimen satisfied the standard as the soaking delamination percentage of 4.8% but it did not satisfied the standard as the water proof soaking delamination percentage of 70%. As a result of fracture toughness test, the volume ratio of reinforcement to timber became 23% so that the strength of FRP-reinforced laminated plates increased by two to four times in comparison to the control specimen. It was confirmed that the GFRP Textile-Sheet type specimen was most resistant to the fracture most since the ratio of stress intensity factor compared with that of the control increased to 61% owing to the parallel arrangement of glass fiber to the load. As a result of tensile shear strength test using FRP-reinforced laminated plates and nonmetal dowels, it is about 12% lower than metal connectors.

Characteristics of Asphalt Concrete using Waste Foundry Sand (주물고사 첨가 아스팔트 콘크리트의 특성에 관한 연구)

  • This study was performed to evaluate the characteristics of waste foundry sand (WFS) and the asphalt mixture made of a foundry waste sand. To estimate the applicability of WFS, chemical and physical properties were measured by XRF(X-ray fluorescent), and SEM(Scanning electronic microfilm). To improve the stripping resistance of WFS asphalt mixture, anti-stripping agents (a hydrated lime and a liquid anti-stripping agent) were used. To improve tensile properties and durability of WFS asphalt concrete mixture, LDPE(low-density polyethylene) was used as an asphalt modifier Marshall mix design, indirect tensile strength, tensile strength ratio(TSR) after freezing and thawing, moisture susceptibility and wheel tracking tests were carried out to evaluate performance of WFS asphalt concrete. Comparing with conventional asphalt concrete, WFS asphalt concretes showed similar or the better qualify in mechanical properties, and satisfied all specification limits. Therefore, it Is concluded that waste foundry sand can be recycled as an asphalt pavement material.
