In Korean society, words related to misogyny are being created and spread out in the Internet communities and the Internet news posts comments. This study was conducted to investigate if exposure to misogynistic words affects misogynistic attitudes toward women. Study 1 examined the relationship between exposure of misogynistic words (the number of misogynistic words known and the level of Internet comments viewed) and explicit misogynistic attitudes. As a result, the greater the exposure of misogynistic words, the less explicit misogynistic attitudes were found among men. The result can be explained as a desensitization of stimuli caused by repetitive exposure to media. In Study 2, experiments were conducted to manipulate the exposure of misogynistic words and to identify the relationship between implicit misogynistic attitudes through implicit association tests. Results of analysis show that implicit misogyny attitude is stronger as male participants are exposed to misogynistic words. The finding of this study suggests that explicit and implicit attitudes toward misogyny can diverge. It also implies that the exposure to misogynistic words can affect men's and women's attitudes in a different manner.
Sesamin and sesamolin are major lignan components with a wide range of potential biological activities of sesame seeds. Near infrared reflectance spectroscopy (NIRS) is a rapid and non-destructive analysis method widely used for the quantitative determination of major components in many agricultural products. This study was conducted to develop a screening method to determine the lignan contents for sesame breeding. Sesamin and sesamolin contents of 482 sesame samples ranged from 0.03-14.40 mg/g and 0.10-3.79 mg/g with an average of 4.93 mg/g and 1.74 mg/g, respectively. Each sample was scanned using NIRS and calculated for the calibration and validation equations. The optimal performance calibration model was obtained from the original spectra using partial least squares (PLS). The coefficient of determination in calibration (R2) and standard error of calibration (SEC) were 0.963 and 0.861 for sesamin and 0.875 and 0.292 for sesamolin, respectively. Cross-validation results of the NIRS equation showed an R2 of 0.889 in the prediction for sesamin and 0.781 for sesamolin and a standard error of cross-validation (SECV) of 1.163 for sesamin and 0.417 for sesamolin. The results showed that the NIRS equation for sesamin and sesamolin could be effective in selecting high lignan sesame lines in early generations of sesame breeding.

Polymethoxyflavones (PMFs) are flavonoids mainly found in citrus fruits and have been reported to exhibit a wide range of bioactivities, including anti-obesity, anti-cancer, and anti-inflammatory actions. To utilize PMFs as functional materials, it is necessary to develop a simple method of obtaining PMFs from citrus tissues containing a large amount of PMFs. It has been reported that Jinkyool (C. sunki Hort ex. Tanaka) peel contained a large amount of PMFs, but there are no studies on PMFs isolated from its leaves. In this study, we established a simple procedure for obtaining the PMF-rich fraction (PRF) from the leaves of Jinkyool and investigated the effects of PRF on lipid metabolism in 3T3-L1 cells. PRF inhibited lipogenesis during the differentiation of 3T3-L1 preadipocytes. It decreased the expression of peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor gamma (PPAR𝛾) and CCAAT/enhancer binding protein alpha (CEBP𝛼), FAS, and adipocyte fatty-acid-binding protein 2 (aP2). In mature 3T3-L1 adipocytes, PRF increases the phosphorylation of protein kinase A (PKA)/hormone-sensitive lipase (HSL), which are key factors involved in lipolysis. Moreover, it increases the phosphorylation of the AMP-activated protein kinase (AMPK)/acetyl-CoA carboxylase (ACC) involved in fatty acid oxidation. These results suggest that PRF from Jinkyool leaves can be used as an anti-obesity agent with the action of inhibiting lipogenesis and promoting lipolysis and fatty acid oxidation in 3T3-L1 adipocytes.
Brain stimulation technology that administers electrical and magnetic stimulation to a brain has shown a significant level of possibility for treating a wide range of various neurological and psychiatric disorders. Depending on its nature, the technology is defined either as invasive or non-invasive, and deep brain stimulation (DBS) is one of the most well-known invasive brain stimulation technologies. Currently categorized as grade 4 medical device in accordance with Guideline On Medical Devices And Their Grades, a Notification of Ministry of Food and Drug Safety (MFDS), the DBS has been used as a stable treatment for several diseases. At the same time, the DBS technology has recently achieved substantial advancement, encouraging active discussions for its use from various perspectives. On the contrary, debates over legal regulation related to the use of DBS has relatively been smaller in numbers. In this context, this article aims to 1) introduce the DBS technology and its safety in setting out the tone; 2) touch upon major legal issues that would potentially rise from its use for four different purposes of treatment, clinical study, areas of non-standard treatment where no other methods are available, and enhancement; and finally 3) highlight disputes concerning common emerging issues observed in the aforementioned four purposes from the viewpoint of legal responsibility and liability of using the DBS, which are benefit-risk assessment, physicians' duty of information, patients' capacity to consent, control for device, and insurance coverage.

Particulate matter (PM) is known to be involved in the onset and progression of various diseases by promoting oxidative and inflammatory reactions as air pollutants containing various small particles that are harmful. In this study, the protective efficacy of herbal medicines was evaluated in human corneal epithelial cells (hCECs) to select natural products that can protect the eye, the primary organ directly exposed to external pollutants from PM. As a result, five candid ate herbal medicines [Cheonmundong, Asparagus Rhizome; Seokchangpo, Aciru Gramineri Rhizoma; Hwangryeon, Coptidis Rhizoma; Gamgug, Chrysanthemi Indici Flos; and Geumjanhwa (Marigold flower petals)] which showed inhibitory efficacy on PM2.5-induced cytotoxicity, were selected from among 12 candidate herbal medicines. To evaluate the antioxidant activity of these candidate substances, the reactive oxygen species (ROS) scavenging ability was investigated, and it was found that the extracts of Seokchangpo, Cheonmundong and Hwangryeon showed a significant inhibitory effect on PM2.5-induced ROS production, which was correlated with the preservation of mitochondrial activity. In addition, it was confirmed that they could block DNA damage caused by PM2.5 through analysis of 8-hydroxy-2'-deoxyguanosine generation and phosphorylated-H2A histone family member X (γ- H2AX) expression. Furthermore, the increase in inflammasome activity and inflammatory response in PM2.5-treated hCECs was also canceled in the presence of these extracts. Although additional studies are needed, the results of this study will be used as primary data to find novel natural compounds that protect hCECs from PM.

The number of elderly people worldwide is rapidly increasing and the mobility handicapped suffering from inconvenient public transportation service is also increasing. In Korea and abroad, various policies are being implemented to provide high-quality transportation services for the mobility handicapped, and budget support and investment related to mobility facilities are being expanded. The mobility handicapped spends more time for transit transfer than normal users and their satisfaction with transit service is also lower. There exist transfer inconvenience points of the mobility handicapped due to various factors such as long transfer distances, absence of transportation facilities like elevators, escalators, etc. The purpose of this study is to find transfer inconvenience points for convenient transit transfer of the mobility handicapped using Smart card Big data. This study process traffic card transaction data and construct transfer travel data by user groups using smart card big data and analysis of the transfer characteristics for each user group ; normal, children, elderly, etc. Finally, find transfer inconveniences points by comparing transfer patterns between normal users and the mobility handicapped. This study is significant in that it can find transfer inconvenience points for convenient transit transfer of the mobility handicapped using Smart card Big data. In addition, it can be applicated of Smart card Big data for developing public transportation polices in the future. It is expected that the result of this study be used to improve the accessibility of transit transportation for mobility handicapped.

Portable and vehicle thermal fogs were tested using etofenprox, bifenthrin, and deltamethrin diluted with diesel oil, kerosene, and water against domestic vector mosquitoes, Aedes albopictus, Anopheles sinensis s.l., Culex pipiens, and Culex tritaeniorhynchus. The female mosquitoes were confined in small cages suspended on poles at progressively greater distances from the fog release point at an open field. The average mortality rates of four vector mosquitoes to the three insecticides were 52.0% and 64.0% at a portable thermal fogs diluted with diesel oil and water within a 10 m distance, respectively. A vehicle thermal fog had a mean mortality of 34.8% of the females to the insecticides diluted with diesel oil within 50 m. The mortality rates were not significantly different among all the tested distances. At a dilution solvent test, the mortality of the females to the insecticides diluted with kerosene was 1.9 times higher than that of diesel oil.

The purpose of this study is to develop a framework for analyzing the solution spaces of open-ended task and to explore their usefulness and applicability based on the analysis of solution spaces constructed by students. Based on literature reviews and previous studies, researchers developed a framework for analyzing solution spaces (OMR-framework) organized into subspaces of outcome spaces, method spaces, representation spaces which could be used in structurally analyzing students' solutions of open-ended tasks. In our research, we developed open-ended tasks which had various outcomes and methods that could be solved by using the concepts of factors and multiples and assigned the tasks to 181 elementary school fifth and sixth graders. As a result of analyzing the student's solution spaces by applying the OMR-framework, it was possible to systematically analyze the characteristics of students' understanding of the concept of factors and multiples and their approach to reversible and constructive thinking. In addition to formal mathematical representations, various informal representations constructed by students were also analyzed. It was revealed that each space(outcome, method, and representation) had a unique set of characteristics, but were closely interconnected to each other in the process. In conclusion, it can be said that method of analyzing solution spaces of open-ended tasks of this study are useful for systemizing and analyzing the solution spaces and are applicable to the analysis of the solutions of open-ended tasks.
Abeliophyllum distichum (A. distichum, Korean endemic plant) is one genus and one species in the Oleaceae family. According to the color variation of petals and calyx, A. distichum is classified as A. distichum (white flower), A. distichum for. lilacinum (pink flowers), A. distichum for. eburneum (ivory flowers), and Okhwang 1 (golden flowers). In previous studies, bioactivities (antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and anti-cancer) of A. distichum have been reported. We conducted a comparison of the differences in bioactive compounds and the anti-inflammatory effects on macrophages among four flowers of A. distichum (FAD). The identification and quantification of glycosides were analyzed by HPLC/PDA and LCMS. These results were shown FAD has rutin, hirsutrin, and acteoside. Antioxidant activity of FAD significantly decreased reactive oxygen species. In addition, FAD reduced the expression of pro-inflammatory mediators (nitric oxide, iNOS, and COX-2) in lipopolysaccharide-induced RAW 264.7 cells. For further study, we investigated the regulation of nuclear factor kappa B (NF-κB) and mitogen-activated protein kinase (MAPK) signaling pathways. In conclusion, FAD may exert anti-inflammatory effects by suppressing inflammatory mediators via regulations of NF-κB and MAPK signaling pathways. Therefore, these findings suggest that FAD is a potential resource as a preventative or therapeutic agent for inflammation.

The heel effect creates a density difference in the X-ray images because the intensity of the anode and cathode side of the X-ray tube is not equal. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the density difference due to the heel effect by rotating the step wedge by 180 degrees and then changing the distance. After fixing the tube voltage and tube current to 72 kVp and 10 mAs, the forward and reverse directions were taken using a step wedge. At this time, the distance (80 cm ~ 130 cm) was taken at 10 cm intervals, and the density value was measured by setting the region of interest for each step of the step wedge through the M6 program. First, the difference in intensity between the anode and the cathode was confirmed through the radiation exposure test. In addition, when the distance (from 80 cm to 130 cm) was changed, the difference in density between the cathode and the anode decreased as the projection distance increased. As a result, images of uniform density can be obtained as the projection distance increases.
