Using Web as CAI in the Classroom of Information Age (정보화시대를 대비한 CAI로서의 Web 활용)

  • This study is an attempt to present a usage of the Web as CAI in the classroom and to give a direction to the future education in the face of information age. Characteristcs of information society, current curriculum, educational and teacher education are first analyzed in this article. The features of internet and 'Web are then summarized to present benefits of usage in the classroom as a CAI tool. The literature shows several characteristics of information society as follows : a technological computer, a provision and sharing of information, multi functional society, a participative democracy', an autonomy, a time value..A problem solving and 4 Cs(e.g., cooperation, copying, communication, creativity) are newly needed in this learning environment. The Internet is a large collection of networks that are tied together so that users can share their vast resources, a wealth of information, and give a key to a successful, efficient. individual study over a time and space. The 'Web increases an academic achievement, a creativity, a problem solving, a cognitive thinking, and a learner's motivation through an easy access to : documents available on the Internet, files containing programs, pictures, movies, and sounds from an FTP site, Usenet newsgroups, WAIS seraches, computers accessible through telnet, hypertext document, Java applets and other multimedia browser enhancements, and much more, In the Web browser will be our primary tool in searching for information on the Internet in this information age.

Proposal of GUI Guidelines to Improve the Usability of Mobile Healthcare for New Silver Generation (뉴실버세대의 모바일 헬스케어 사용성을 높이기 위한 GUI 가이드라인 제안)

  • Recently with the entrance to the aging society, the demand on health care services is being increased. However, there are still few GUI types of research considering the characteristics of new-silver generation progressively preparing for their golden(old) age. As the new-silver generation showed less reluctance to the information acquired through the Internet comparing to general seniors, but it is urgent to conduct researches about GUI of mobile healthcare services considering their physical, psychological and social characteristics. Hence, the purpose of this study was to propose some guidelines of GUI evaluation so that new-silver generation being emerged as main consumer group in future medical consumption could efficiently use mobile health care services. As the research methods, first, this study analyzed the characteristics of new-silver generation through reviewing literature and previous studies and understood the status quo of mobile health care services, and second, it analyzed the visual composition factors being preferred in each field of current mobile healthcare application and drew out a usability evaluation matrix of mobile GUI design appropriate for elderly people's characteristics. Third, with the drawn evaluation matrix, this study conducted the usability evaluation of 8 subjects in new-silver generation ranging from 57 years old to 65 years old through a heuristic way. This study expects that it would be contributed in increasing the GUI usability by proposing some guidelines for GUI being appropriated for new-silver generation user's characteristics, and thinks that researches about developing health-care mobile applications will be continued in future at the same time.

The Effects of Interface Modality on Cognitive Load and Task Performance in Media Multitasking Environment (미디어 멀티태스킹 환경에서 인터페이스의 감각양식 차이가 인지부하와 과업수행에 미치는 영향에 관한 연구 다중 자원 이론과 스레드 인지 모델을 기반으로)

  • This research examined the changes that fast-growing voice-based devices would bring in the media multitasking environment. Based on the theoretical background that information processing efficiency improves when performing multiple tasks requiring different resource structures at the same time, we conducted an experiment where participants searched for information with voice-based or screen-based devices while performing an additional visual task. Results showed that both task performance environment and interface modality had significant main effects on cognitive load. The overall cognitive load level was higher in the voice interface group, but the difference in cognitive load between the two groups decreased in a multitasking environment where the additional visual resources was required. The visual task performance was significantly higher when using the voice interface than the screen interface. Our findings suggest that voice interfaces offered advantages in the cognitive load and task performance by distributing two tasks to the auditory and visual channels. The results of this study imply that voice-based devices have the potential to facilitate efficient information processing in the screen-centric environment where visual resources collide. We provided theoretical evidence of resource distribution using multiple resource theory and tried to identify the advantages of the voice interface more specifically based on the threaded cognition model.

Mobile Phone Guide for Cultural Heritage (문화유적지 투어를 위한 모바일 폰 가이드 시스템)

  • In the design of mobile entertainment systems for historical heritage sites, it is important to not only overcome technical challenges imposed by power requirements, computation limits, and connectivity, but to support group experiences and consider users preferences for situated media consumption. Cultural heritage sites provide an opportunity to entertain and educate the public through the use of mobile media. The proposed system implemented on a Java-enabled mobile phone provides both audio and visual content that is tailored by tracking user movement with GPS, collecting various user inputs and demographics, and allowing for socially acceptable eavesdropping via wireless networking. By designing for the spatial, personal, and social considerations of the environment, we aim to help users navigate the diverse topology of the space and consume the vast quantities of historical media.

  • 본 논문에서는 유비쿼터스 기반 인프라를 이용한 실시간 유괴방지 시스템을 구축하였다. 급속한 사회 발전과 더불어 강력사건이 증가되고 있으며 그중에서 어린이 유괴 범죄 같이 질적으로 흉악한 범죄가 해마다 증가되고 있는 실정이다. 이러한 유괴 범죄를 예방하기 위하여 현재 GPS(Global Positioning System)을 이용한 위치인식 기술 및 이동통신 기지국을 이용한 위치인식 기술이 사용되고 있다. 단순히 위치인식 기술은 위험상황이 발생하였을 때, 상황을 정확히 인지하기 어려워 유괴된 어린이 44%가 1시간 이내 사망하고 74%가 3시간 이내 사망 한다는 통계를 감안하면 기존 시스템은 어린이 생명 보호 능력에 한계가 있다. 본 연구에서는 유비쿼터스 도시 기반 인프라를 구축하여 WPAN(Wireless Personal Area Network)환경에서 RF만으로 거리 측정이 가능한 IEEE 802.15.4a의 ISM Band CSS(Chirp Spread Spectrum)방식을 이용하여 보다 저 전력으로 정확한 위치정보 시스템을 적용하였다. 이에 CSS방식을 통하여 얻은 위치정보를 지능형 CCTV와 융합하여 CCTV가 단말기 위치로 자동 초점하는 시스템을 구성하였다. 도시통합운영센터에서 상황을 정확히 인지하고 신속하게 출동할 수 있도록 단말기 위치를 지속적으로 요원의 PDA 및 핸드폰으로 통보하고 현장 주변의 미디어 보드 표시와 음성 경고로 경찰의 적절한 대응 및 주변의 도움을 받을 수 있는 시스템을 구성하였다.

  • 디지털 기술이 급격하게 발전함에 따라서 사용자들은 더 현실감을 느낄 수 있고 능동적으로 상호작용 할 수 있는 방송을 원하게 되었다. 최근 들어서 삼차원 다시점 방송이 이러한 것을 만족시키는 서비스로서 많은 관심을 받으면서 두각 되고 있다. 일반적으로 서버에 입력되는 모든 영상들은 전부 클라이언트로 전송되게 된다. 이후에 사용자는 전체 시점 중에서 몇 개의 시점을 골라서 보게 된다. 하지만 이러한 종류의 시스템은 클라이언트와 서버 모두가 막대한 처리 능력을 필요로 하게 되고 이것은 응용 프로그램을 구현하는데 있어서 어려운 문제가 된다. 이러한 문제를 극복하기 위해서 두 개의 시점을 선택하여 클라이언트로 전송하는 간략한 방법이 사용 가능하다. 본 논문의 시점 선택 과정은 MPEG-21 DIA (Digital Item Adaptation)와 융합되어있기 때문에 우리의 시스템은 MPEG-21 멀티미디어 프레임워크와 완벽하게 호환된다. 그리고 다시점 카메라와 시스템에 대한 XML 형식의 다시점 명세서를 최초로 소개한다. 마지막으로 우리는 다시점 입체 영상을 시청하는 동안에 사용자가 느낄 수 있는 불편함을 최소화 하는 방법으로 IVR (Intermediate View Reconstruction) 제안한다.

  • 과학에서 사용하는 모델은 자연 그 자체가 아니면 자연을 단순화하여 표현한 표상이다. 그렇기 때문에 각 모델은 자연을 표상하기 위한 특정한 알고리즘을 갖는다. 그러므로 과학 모델에 대한 이해는 자연을 표상하기 위한 특정한 알고리즘이 무엇인지에 대한 이해가 필수적이다. 이러한 특정한 알고리즘에 대한 이해와 이를 바탕으로 한 다른 현상의 예측과 설명을 위한 도구로 본 논문은 스크래치를 활용하였다. 또한 과학의 모델에 대한 이해의 소재로 대학생뿐만 아니라 많은 과학교사 조차도 대안개념에 머물러 있는 뜨거나 가라앉는 현상을 선정하였다. 연구대상은 K대학원 교육대학원 멀티미디어와 과학교육을 수강한 17명의 과학교사이며, 스크래치를 통해 기본 알고리즘 3시간, 응용 알고리즘 3시간을 투입하였다. 모델에 대한 이해를 위해 뜨거나 가라 앉는 현상에 때한 LP설문지를 사전, 사후검사에 실시하였다. 1차적으로 양적변화를 통해 이 현상에 대한 개념의 수준의 변화를 알아보았으며, 2차적으로 인터뷰와 자기보고식 설문지를 이용하여 모델에 대한 이해를 질적으로 분석하였다. 연구결과 과학교사들은 현상에 대한 개념에 대한 수준이 상승하였으며, 질적자료 분석 결과, 모델에 대한 깊은 이해(depth)와 전이능력(transfer)이 증가하였다. 이는 스크래치를 통해 과학 모델의 이해를 높일 수 있음을 시사한다.

Visual Programming Environment for Effective Teaching and Research in Image Processing (영상처리에서 효율적인 교육과 연구를 위한 비주얼 프로그래밍 환경 개발)

  • With the wide spread use of multimedia device, the demand for the image processing engineers are increasing in various fields. However there are few engineers who can develop practical applications in the image processing area. To teach practical image processing techniques, we need a visual programming environment which can efficiently present the image processing theories and, at the same time, provide interactive experiments for the theory presented. In this paper, we propose a visual programming environment of the integrated environment for image processing. It consists of the theory presentation systems and experiment systems based on the visual programming environment. The theory presentation systems support multimedia data, web documents and powerpoint files. The proposed system provides an integrated environment for application development as well as education. The proposed system accumulates the teaching materials and exercise data and it manages, an ideal image processing education and research environment to students and instructors.

An Optimization Method of Neural Networks using Adaptive Regulraization, Pruning, and BIC (적응적 정규화, 프루닝 및 BIC를 이용한 신경망 최적화 방법)

  • To achieve an optimal performance for a given problem, we need an integrative process of the parameter optimization via learning and the structure optimization via model selection. In this paper, we propose an efficient optimization method for improving generalization performance by considering the property of each sub-method and by combining them with common theoretical properties. First, weight parameters are optimized by natural gradient teaming with adaptive regularization, which uses a diverse error function. Second, the network structure is optimized by eliminating unnecessary parameters with natural pruning. Through iterating these processes, candidate models are constructed and evaluated based on the Bayesian Information Criterion so that an optimal one is finally selected. Through computational experiments on benchmark problems, we confirm the weight parameter and structure optimization performance of the proposed method.

  • In spite of the fact that project-based learning has had positive effects on improvement of creation power and expansion of the spirit of inquiry, the project-based learning lesson was difficult to carry out in the classroom. The web overcomes time and space limitations in traditional schools. This study has developed and implemented an online project-based website of children's education, based upon the extensive classroom use of multimedia materials to further students participation and interest in projects of discovery. The developed website shows the entire process used through out the project. This paper presents the project's activities and students' learning, using multimedia and web. This study was conducted in fourth grade of an elementary school for a month. The results of this study suggest that the effects of using the project-based website were improved self-directed learning and generation of new ideas.
