  • This paper proposes a new text candidate region detection method that uses genetic algorithm based on information of the segmented regions. In image segmentation, a classification of the pixels at each color channel and a reclassification of the region-unit for reducing inhomogeneous clusters are performed. EWFCM(Entropy-based Weighted C-Means) algorithm to classify the pixels at each color channel is an improved FCM algorithm added with spatial information, and therefore it removes the meaningless regions like noise. A region-based reclassification based on a similarity between each segmented region of the most inhomogeneous cluster and the other clusters reduces the inhomogeneous clusters more efficiently than pixel- and cluster-based reclassifications. And detecting text candidate regions is performed by genetic algorithm based on energy and variance of the directional edge components, the number, and a size of the segmented regions. The region information-based detection method can singles out semantic text candidate regions more accurately than pixel-based detection method and the detection results will be more useful in recognizing the text regions hereafter. Experiments showed the results of the segmentation and the detection. And it confirmed that the proposed method was superior to the existing methods.

  • This paper describes the method of efficient container number recognition in colored container image with number plate at ATC(Automatic Transfer Crane) in container terminal yard. At the Sinseondae terminal gate in Busan, the container number recognition system is installed by "intelligent port-logistics system technology development", that is government research and development project. It is the method that it sets up the tunnel structure inside camera on the gate and it recognizes the container number in order to recognize the export container cargo automatically. However, as the automation equipment is introduced to the container terminal and the unmanned of a task is gradually accomplished, the container number recognition system for the confirmation of the object of work is required at ATC in container terminal yard. Therefore, the container number recognition system fitted for it is necessary for ATC in container terminal yard in which there are many intrusive of the character recognition through image including a sunlight, rain, snow, shadow, and etc. unlike the gate. In this paper, hardware components of the camera, illumination, and sensor lamp were altered and software elements of an algorithm were changed. that is, the difference of the brightness of the surrounding environment, and etc. were regulated for recognize a container number. Through this, a shadow problem, and etc. that it is thickly below hung with the sunlight or the cargo equipment were solved and the recognition time was shortened and the recognition rate was raised.

  • To provide observed oceanography data at coastal fish and shellfish farm in the northeastern sea of the Korean peninsula on real time base, we developed real time application system for fisheries oceanography information. The system has been made up a mooring buoy system, a server for oceanography data collection, a server for archiving data and a database system, and a web server for providing fisheries oceanography information using internet. Futhermore, to support letters service on a cellular phone, we developed the communication system from mooring buoy to cell phone on real time base. The oceanography data derived from the system are water temperature speed and direction of current in surface layer middle layer and bottom layer in hour. We were able to quantify short term variation of ocean conditions within several days at shellfish farm such as a scallop sea farm using our system. To reduce damages of fish and shellfish farm from abnormal phenomena of ocean conditions such as a broken stratification of water, an occurrence of abnormal coastal cold water and warm water we will be able to move vertically and horizontally the sea farm facilities to proper conditions using real time oceanography information derive from the system.

  • For recent innovation of If technology and the beginning of Digital Multimedia Broadcasting (DMB) service, it has been dramatically increased to setup TV system in a car for watching TV and receiving traffic Information. Watching TV while driving would distract a driver s cognitive and visual attention as eating food, operating the radio, using a cell phone. However, there is paucity of empirical researches and it is uncertain how watching TV in driving impacts on the driver's cognition in the concrete. Therefore, we surveyed domestic drivers on the attitude watching TV while driving as well as conducted experiments through a driving simulator. Especially, we recruited two groups of participants to explore the effects of watching TV on driving behavior. The result proved that the participants who watched TV while their driving had relatively narrower the attention span than the Participants who did not watch TV. Also, those who watched TV drove with less stability and more urgent operations of the brake and accelerator than those who did not watched TV Finally, we discussed limitations and implications of the study.

  • The effect of the code conversion process of Korean script (Hangul), also known as words for numbers, was investigated using event-related potentials (ERPs) during mental arithmetic operations. Study subjects were asked to determine whether the arithmetic results of a given target stimuli were correctly matched. Visual inspection and statistics of mean ERPs showed stimulus type-dependent processing rather than task-dependent processing. Results of addition and multiplication tasks revealed that the overall temporal profiles of the Arabic numerals were similar to the Hangul words for numbers. The only exception to this observation was a delayed positive-slope peak occurring around 300 ms, which was likely related to the encoding process of Hangul words for numbers to Arabic-digits, defined as a 'transcoding-related potential.' Source analysis confirmed that the topography of different waveforms for the two conditions was attributed to a single dipole located in the left temporo-parietal area; this area is known to be involved in Hangul words for number processing. These results suggest that the initial processing for encoding words for numbers was followed by arithmetic operations without direct access of internal number representation. • In the non-face-to-face learning environment forced into effect by the COVID-19 pandemic, online learning is being adopted as a major educational technique. Given the lack of research on how online learning patterns affect academic performance, this study focuses on the number and duration of online video learning sessions as a major factor based on midterm and final exams, and with a formative assessment for each type of learning. The correlation of the learning effects was analyzed. The analysis focused on computer programming subjects, which are among the most difficult liberal arts subjects for arts and science students at the university level. The analysis of cases of actual students showed no correlation among weekly formative assessments, the number of learning sessions, and the learning duration. On the other hand, the number of learning sessions (r=.39 p<0.05) and learning duration (r=.42 p<0.05) were correlated with the midterm and final exams. Elements, such as SMS text, bulletin board, and e-mail, were excluded from the analysis because not all students have access to them. Therefore, the results can be improved if future analysis of the students' learning patterns in a non-face-to-face lecture environment is performed considering more factors/elements and the learners' needs.

  • Dance is an art that includes not only art historical facts, but also a series of processes for dancers' body, choreography, and the creation of entire process of dances and their lives. In other words, dance is the art of embodying the experience and consciousness of the dancer as the subject, and embodying it through the physical body, and therefore, the existing empirical study which relies solely on the literature in the history of dance study is difficult to deliver a complete history. Oral history is a new methodology historical writing that overcomes the limitations of research methods based on literature centered documents. Oral history in the field of dance is that the dancer becomes the subject of the history of dance's narrative. The memory and testimony of a dancer can become a history, complement the missing parts of the documentary record, and amount to analysis and interpretation to attempt the history of dance from various perspectives. The history of dance through oral history analysis thus generates another view from the literature. The oral history is acted as a prism that can explore the sociocultural discourse of the time and the history of dance. As a new academic challenge for the history of dance field, I expect to be able to review the artistic, social, and cultural functions and roles of dance beyond the limit of existing literature-oriented history study and to be able to progress to various the history of dance.

  • TYME is an interactive typography program based on the ephemeral nature of time. It is a text based poetic tool, built with Processing. This project is presented as a performance that utilizes a computer with a display screen, a projector, and speakers. As the user types, white characters appear, flow on the score on the screen and trigger jazz sounds, then characters disappear into black space in several seconds on the screen like smoke. Typography from this invented instrument is evocative and wistful, and allows the user to associate with ephemeral time. While typing the characters as though playing an instrument at intervals of time, the user can freeze the motion and print out or save otherwise fleeting moment with a button. I intend to contain both characteristics: the amorphous shape of smoke and the elusive attribute of smoke for the expression of intangible and ephemeral time. Every alphabetic shape is derived from the video dips that I shot of smoke. The resulting alphabetic images are then programmed using the Processing scripting language and which can then be typed on the screen with a keyboard. TYME could be a model as a project that reflects the unfixed quality of digital typography, and as a design approach for interactive expressive typography by scripting code. This project also represents the characteristics of typographic play, which can be realized in an computational environment like this model.

  • It is a story through which people share their ideas and express their thoughts. Storytelling is temporally and spatially interconnected narration that consists of characters, background, its beginning and its conclusion. Furthermore, the story in storytelling is a means of delivering culture and history; thanks to the development of various media, delivering and exchanging the story are conducted in a variety of forms. Due to the technological advancement, the way storytelling is done has changed, which was a method called digital storytelling. This storytelling has been frequently used in education; that is, teachers utilize stories to communicate their thoughts. As receivers, students understand a shade of meaning and the role of language, thus reorganizing the important factors in the context of meaningful events. However, in practice the classes are so teacher-centered that the role of students are relegated to that of passive learners, thus debilitating the interaction between participants; as a result, this situation shows serious limitations in that it does not improve students' practical skills. Despite this situation, home economics has attempted to broaden students' practical knowledge and has enabled them to acquire procedural knowledge as its main objectives in the context of the entire life. To overcome this problem, this study attempts to demonstrate the lesson model utilizing the storytelling where the lively participation in the process and results of learning can increase learners' self-confidence and responsibility. This lesson model is believed to facilitate the communication among participants including teachers and students. Through this alternative teaching method, learners can participate in the process of learning so that they can acquire practical knowledge: this method can be a step-stone for further development. In conclusion, the development of curriculum and lesson plans should be encouraged.
