Reconstruction and building plan of Buyeo Muryangsa Temple in the 17th century (부여 무량사(無量寺)의 17세기 재건(再建)과 조영 계획(造營 計劃))

  • The study examined reconstruction and building plan of Buyeo Muryangsa Temple in the 17th century and reviewed its construction process and supporting power since the Imjin War of 1592. In addition, The architectural features and design plan of Geukrakjeon that is the most important position in the reconstruction were examined. The reconstruction process of Muryangsa Temple is as follows. Firstly, the study reviewed the reconstruction order of Muryangsa Temple that was progressed in a short period of time from 1624 to 1636. In doing so, the reconstruction period was adjusted from 1633 to 1624 so that the construction order of Muryangsa Temple might be the reconstruction of Geukrakjeon in 1624, Gwaebul in 1627, Sojosamjonbul in 1636 and Beomjong in 1636. Secondly, as the reconstruction of Muryangsa Temple was progressed in a short period of time of 13 years, it was assumed there was great supporting power. In particular, it was found that Jinmukdaesa who lead the construction of Wanju Songgwangsa Temple had an impact on the construction of Muryangsa Temple.It was conjectured that Shin family of the royal family as the supporting power of Songgwangsa through the support of Jinmukdaesa had an impact on Muryangsa Temple. Thirdly, the study reviewed architectural features of Geukrakjeon which has the most important meaning of the reconstruction of Muryangsa Temple. By comparing other reconstructed temples, the architectural style of Muryangsa Temple was examined. In particular, features of Gongpo and furniture were reviewed. In doing so, Muryangsa Temple, the study proposed a possibility that Geukrakjeon would be constructed by an artisan in the same genealogy of Wanju Hwasamsa Temple Geukrakjeon. Finally, the design plan of the building was reviewed with Yongcheok of 309mm used for the construction of Geukrakjeon. Geukrakjeon had perfect proportion compared with other reconstructed temple in the late Joseon period, and golden ratio of 1:1.41 was applied in many areas of building. the study also proposed that the stable design of Geukrakjeon was carried out by the building plan of overall Garam at the time of reconstruction of Muryangsa Temple in the late Joseon period.

A Study on the Hipped-and-Gable-Roof Framework of Muryangsujeon of Buseoksa Temple (부석사 무량수전 측면 지붕부 결구의 구성방식에 관한 재고(再考) - 중국 원대(元代) 이전 목조건축과의 비교를 중심으로 -)

  • This research is a study on the side framework structure of the hipped and gable roof of Muryangsujeon at Buseoksa Temple. There is a record that Muryangsujeon was deconstructed and repaired in the period of Japanese Occupancy, and its authenticity has continuously been called into question because the structure of the hipped and gable side roofs, and the bonding of the rafters and eaves were not in good order and very different from those of Joseon Dynasty. Scholars date it differently. It is either dated at 13th century or 12th century. This study compares the non-planar configuration of the middle and front proportions of Muryangsujeon's hipped-and-gable-roof framework with those of the Tang(唐) and Song(宋) Dynasties in China. It concludes that the hipped-and-gable-roof framework of those architecture were built with the same technique. The style of architecture that side rafters directly touch the internal security (梁), like in Muryangsujeon, is not usual even among the hipped and garble roofs of the Tang(唐) and Song(宋) Dynasties. The technique of constructing the hipped roofs developed much further after the Tang Dynasty because they began to use garble eaves to build the side structure. The technique seems to have developed greatly by the period of Ming and Qing Dynasties. It also seems that the parallel-flat (平行輻射椽) rafter, which is the form of rafters used between the parallelrafter period and the half-flat-rafter period is very similar to the construction style of the current rafters of Muryangsujeon. However, the Muryangsujeon's eaves do not touch the corner rafter from the middle part. This seems to be a unique style, which is not common in China. In conclusion, the style of the side roof framework of Muryangsujeon at Buseoksa Temple is not of the China's southern regions, but of the northern regions of Tang(唐), Song(宋) and Liao(遼) Dynasties. And when considering the construction year and proportions of the middle front and side front on the same flat, this must be an ancient technique of the northeastern regions of Asia. Since it is likely that the structure of the side roof framework of Muryangsujeon at Buseoksa Temple has not been altered but is a unique style of hipped and gable roofs, this roof can serve as a good guide to restoring the hipped and garble roofs of the pre-Goyreo Dynasty period.

  • 환경부(장관 한정애)는 생산자책임재활용(EPR) 의무대상 품목 확대를 골자로 하는 '자원의 절약과 재활용촉진에 관한 법률 시행령' 일부개정안을 7월 21일부터 40일간 입법예고한다고 밝혔다. 이번 개정안에 따라 파렛트 등 17개 품목을 생산하는 사업자는 매년 환경부가 산정·발표하는 재활용의무량만큼 해당 품목을 회수·재활용하는 의무를 지게 된다. 다음에 그 상세한 내용에 대해 살펴보도록 한다.

The Tradition and History of Baekjesooryukjae of Buyeo (부여 백제수륙재의 전통과 역사)

  • This article is about the tradition and history of Baekjesooryukjae(Sooryukjae, one of the Buddhist ritual is called Baekjesooryukjae in Buyeo), which is conducted in Baekje Cultural Festival, the annual festival that is held in Buyeo. Buyeo was a place where various ritual books on Sooryukjae were published, and where Bumpae(Buddhist chants) were taught centering on Mooryang Temple. Based on this tradition, to comfort the lonely spirit of Baekje and pacify the three thousand court ladies, Sooryukjae started to be held 60 years ago. Baekjesooryukjae, unlike Sooryukjae of other regions, have the feature that it is held on the river. In Buyeo, where ritual books were published many times and where there was its own Buyeo education, Sooryukjae is assumed to have been handed down for a long time. Thanks to such historical tradition, Sooryukjae was held as a ritual of pacification in Baekje Cultural Festival. Baekjesooryukjae has unique characteristics. Baekjesooryukjae, which started with the proposal of the residents, shows off its status as the one and only water Sooryukjae that is currently existent, and it shows there are significant meanings depending on the changing venues of 재차 as well as the composition of 재차. It is a Sooryukjae with 60 year-long tradition and locality, history.

Buckling Strength of Wooden Column with Entasis at the Muryangsugeon in Buseoksa-Temple (부석사 무량수전 배흘림 목재 기둥의 좌굴강도)

  • In this paper we present the result of investigations pertaining to the buckling strength of Zelkova Serrata (Elm-like) tree column with entasis at the Muryangsujeon in Buseoksa-Temple, Korea. Wooden columns with entasis had been used in the construction of ancient architectural buildings in Korea. It was not known why did they design columns with entasis of the buildings. It is just presumed that the reason may be the compensation of optical illusion, aesthetics, and/or structural safety. The question is not answered even today and it may not be possible to answer clearly and easily. In the paper, the buckling analyses are conducted on both of the wooden column with entasis and the prismatic wooden column by the successive approximations technique and the finite element methods, respectively. The results of analyses are compared and discussed.

An Experimental Study on the Fire Behavior of Two-way Void Slab under Standard Fire with Loading condition (표준화재 재하조건 이방향 중공슬래브의 화재거동에 관한 실험적 연구)

  • 기존의 무량판 구조와 동일한 이방향 슬래브구조인 TVS(two-way void slab)공법은 구조적 하중지지 성능이 불필요한 슬래브 단면상의 중앙부 콘크리트를 제거하여 슬래브의 자중을 줄이고 무량판 구조의 단점을 보완하여 장점을 극대화시킨 구조형식이다. 그러나 이러한 장점을 보유한 공법을 현장적용하기 위해서는 내화성능평가를 통해 화재안전성을 확보하여야 하므로, 이에 대한 화재 실증실험을 수행하여 현장적용을 위한 최소 요구내화 시간에 따른 내화성능 확보방안의 도출이 제시되어야 한다. 이에 본 연구에서는 TVS공법의 실제 스팬길이로 슬래브 피복두께에 따른 화재거동 영향성 분석을 위하여 화재실험을 수행하였다. 하중조건은 고정하중과 적재하중을 고려하여 실험체에 등분포 조건으로 사전재하하였으며, 표준화재조건으로 재하가열 실험을 수행하였다. 슬래브의 화재가열 노출면으로부터의 깊이별 온도변화와 처짐변형 특성을 측정하였으며, KS F 2257-1 평가기준에 의거하여 슬래브의 내화성능을 평가하였다. 실험결과 피복두께 50 mm를 확보할 경우, EPS중공체로 제작한 실험체의 경우 약 2시간정도의 내화성능을 확보할 수 있는 것으로 나타났다.

Pure Land Represented on the Korean Buddhist Temples - Based on the Amitāyurdhyāna Sūtra - (한국사찰에 현현된 극락정토 - 관무량수경의 의보관을 중심으로 -)

  • This research aims to discover how the pure land(Sukkavati), which had the greatest impact on ordinary people since the Shilla period, are represented in the Buddhist temples. This study first looked into the seven landscapes of the pure land, which are written on the $Amit{\bar{a}}yurdhy{\bar{a}}na$ $S{\bar{u}}tra$ a reliance on $s{\bar{u}}tras$ of the Pure Land School. Then, their meaning in the modern world were interpreted. Next the research moved on to the next step to see how the spirit and ideas of the pure land are shown in temples of the Pure Land School. Korean temples of the Pure Land School were found to faithfully embody the landscapes of the pure land in the $Amit{\bar{a}}yurdhy{\bar{a}}na$ $S{\bar{u}}tra$. One might say that those landscape traits of the temples surveyed are common among all Korean buddhist temples, but in the temples of the Pure Land School. those traits consistently reflect special concepts, forming their landscape identity. But ponds, on which the $Amit{\bar{a}}yurdhy{\bar{a}}na$ $S{\bar{u}}tra$ and the picture of $Amit{\bar{a}}yurdhy{\bar{a}}na$ $S{\bar{u}}tra$ put huge emphasis and drawn without an exception, were hard to find among the temples surveyed. This means that previous idea that a pond was an indispensible part in the temples of the Pure Land School needs to be corrected.
