This study the effect of pyrolysis products ABC dry chemical and of monoammonium phosphate on wood surface. When the pyrolysis product was removed from the wood surface, monoammonium phosphate was removed due to the high viscosity of the transparent pyrolysis product, but the ABC dry chemical was removed in a lump form. Thermal analysis showed that the pyrolysis characteristics of each sample were similar but the weight of pyrolysis residue was 55.9% for ABC dry chemical and 25.2% for monoammonium phosphate. The additives added to the ABC dry chemical also affect the weight of the pyrolysis residue and the fire protection effect of metaphosphoric acid.
This study was carried out to investigate the tenderizing effect of Neungi mushroom (Sarcodon aspratus) powder and its protease. The addition of Neungi mushroom powder and its protease enhanced water retention values (WRY) of meat. The WRY of meat was increased 26.8% by protease addition, compared to 13.8% WRV by sugar addition. This increase in WRY derived to the increase of water soluble fraction in the meat texture by hydrolysis of meat protein, and had the meat tenderized. Concerned to the meat tenderizing effect, the addition of Neungi mushroom powder and its protease have decreased of meat hardness and gave similar tenderizing effect, as compared to commercial tenderizer, papain. The decreasing rates of meat hardness were 51.6% of Neungi mushroom powder, 58.5% of its protease, and 563% of commercial tenderizer, papain. This tenderizing effect of protease attributed to the degradation of muscle fiber protein in meat, such as actin, myosin and connectin etc. The addition of Neungi mushroom to foods gives significant changes in food color, mainly decreasing lightness.
This research was carried out to use green tea leaves powder for scavenging effects of volatile organic compounds on the UV varnishes and adhesives of fancy cherry veneer overlaid on the PF resin bonded Meranti plywood. The results are as follows: 1) Green tea leaves contained 9.85% of polyphenol compounds. 2) FT-IR results showed green tea leaves had effects to react with benzaldehyde and ethyl hexyl alcohol to form a chemical bond. 3) 2.5% of green tea leaves powder content was proper for scavenging effect on the UV varnishes and adhesives of fancy veneer overlaid on the PF resin bonded plywood 4) 20 liters small chamber test indicated excellent emission speed results such as $0.089mg/m^2hr$ of TVOC and $0.001mg/m^2hr$ of HCHO (on 7th day), as compared with standard (less than $0.1mg/m^2hr$ of TVOC and $0.015mg/m^2hr$ of HCHO emission are the excellent grade).
This study was carried out to improve the properties of powdered tannin adhesive(PT) by adding liquid tannin resin(LT) to PT in the manufacture of particleboard. Mixing the LT to PT from 50% to 100% by weight did not show any difference in particleboard properties, but the higher the powdered tannin resin ratio, the lower the properties of the board. The proper ratio of PT to LT was 30:70 for the improvement of PT-particleboard, unless LT lower than 70%. Internal bonding strength was in proportional to the amount of LT. Mixing amino adhesives and PT did not show any improvements in mechanical and physical properties of the board but they only acted as scavenger for the free formaldehyde.Manufacturing particle board with the adhesive of 30:70 (PT:LT) and by using double blender resulted in high-performance products of E0 level of formaldehyde emission with high water resistance (U type; below 12%, M type; below 25%), as well as saving chip drying energy.
This study was carried out to investigate the effect of charcoal meal application on the quality of the wood. As the results, it was observed that annual ring width of seedlings was wider in the plots treated with charcoal meal than the control plots. Depending on the kind of charcoal, annual ring width was widest in the plot treated with Larix kaempferi charcoal, and then was observed in order of Pinus koraiensis > particle board > Quercus acutissima. Latewood percentage and specific gravity were lower in the plots treated with charcoal than the control plots and lowest in Larix kaempferi charcoal plot among the plots treated with charcoal. Tracheid length was longer in the plot treated with powder charcoal than the control plot but tracheid width was not significantly different from the control plot. The cell wall thickness of earlywood was not significantly different between the plot treated with charcoal and the control plot but that of latewood was thicker in the plots treated with charcoal than the control. Microfibril angle was smaller in the plot treated with granulated charcoal than the control plot. However, there was no significant difference between the plot treated with powder charcoal and granulated charcoal.
The main objective of this study is the improvement of the interfacial adhesion of RHF-polypropylene (PP) bio-composites through NaOH and acetic acid treated RHF. After manufacturing of untreated and NaOH and acetic acid treated RHF filled PP bio-composites, the effect on interfacial adhesion of bio-composites was investigated. Tensile strength of the bio-composites made from treated RHF with NaOH and acetic acid was higher than that of the untreated bio-composites. The RHF surface before and after NaOH and acetic acid treatment was clearly confirmed by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) micrograph. It was found that both treatments result in a removal of impurity materials of RHF surface by SEM micrographs. The chemical structures of untreated and NaOH and acetic acid treated RHF were confirmed by fourier transform infrared (FTIR). The crystallization structure and crystallinity of non-treated, NaOH and acetic acid treated RHF were investigated by wide-angle X-ray scattering (WAXS).
This study was conducted to evaluate the application of a bio-composite made by the addition recycled fiber board flour as filler. Recycled fiber board (high density fiber board, HDF) flour was added to polyolefin polymer low density polyethylene (LDPE) and polypropylene (PP) for the preparation of bio-composite materials. The mechanical properties and processability of the recycled HDF flour filled LDPE and recycled HDF flour filled PP bio-composites were then measured and compared to those of wood flour (WF) and rice-husk flour (RHF) filled LDPE and PP bio-composites, respectively. The tensile and impact strengths of the recycled HDF flour filled LDPE and PP bio-composites had similar mechanical properties to those of the WF and RHF filled LDPE and PP bio-composites. To measure the processability, torques of the bio-composites were also measured. The torques of the HDF flour filled LDPE and PP bio-composites were lower than those of the WF and RHF filled polyolefin (PP and LDPE) bio-composites with a filler loading of 30 wt.%. This result showed definite processability, which was not related with the distribution of the particle size of the material added. The recycled fiber board flour filled bio-composites showed applicability as substitutes for the bio-composites currently used in the bio-composites industry.

In this study, the 3D printer filaments were manufactured by using the representative eco-friendly material, bio-composite. Bio-composites were made by incorporating biodegradable polymer of poly lactic acid (PLA) as the matrix and bamboo flour as the filler. The bamboos which were used in this experiment are Phyllostachys bambusoides, Phyllostachys nigra var. henonis, and Phyllostachys pubescen grown in Damyang district in Korea, and the mixture ratio between bamboo flour and PLA were set 10/90, 20/80, 30/70 by weight standard. Also, tensile strength of bamboo/PLA bio-composites manufactured with three kinds of bamboo were estimated and compared. In this result, the highest estimated bio-composites was Phyllostachys bambusoides flour/PLA which mixture ratio was 10/90, that is, it was the most suitable bamboo/PLA bio-composites for manufacturing 3D printer filament.
Enhancing enzymatic saccharification of corn stover by aqueous ammonia soaking pretreatment was investigated on chemical compositional changes and enzymatic hydrolysis characteristics. At three different levels of aqueous ammonia soaking temperature and time ($140^{\circ}C$-1 h, $90^{\circ}C$-16 h and $50^{\circ}C$-6 days), higher temperature and shorter treatment time led to more xylan and lignin removal based on overall composition analysis and carbohydrate compositional analysis. More xylan and lignin removal in higher temperature treatment led to higher enzymatic saccharification of cellulose and xylan to monosaccharide by commercial cellulase mixtures (Celluclast 1.5L and Novozym 342 from Novozyme, Denmark).
