Effects of Seeding Bed Media and Fungicide on Control of Clubroot Disease of Chinese cabbage Caused by Plasmodiophora brassicae (배추 뿌리혹병(Plasmodiophora brassicae) 방제를 위한 육묘용 상토와 농약처리 효과)

  • Clubroot disease of Chinese cabbage has extremely occurred in recent years. Conventional soils such as sandy loam soil (saprolite) and clay soil (yellow soil) as bed media combined with field soil application of fungicidal chemicals were tested for the control of clubroot disease. Using sandy loam soil and clay soil as plug seedling bed media efficiently reduced clubroot disease occurrence down to 21.7% and 14.1%, respectively compared to peatmoss (75.7%) and Baroco soil (36.6%) when seedling plants were transplanted into previously-infected Yoncheon field. Application of flusulfamide and azoxystrobin to previsouly-infected soil prior to transplanting also effectively reduced disease incidence, especially when combined with growing seedlings in sandy loam or clay soil media. In conclusion, flusulfamide application prior to trnasplanting as well as utiliz-ing sandy loam and clay soil as a plug bedding media may effectively reduce the occurrence of clubroot dis-ease of Chinese cabbage.

Effect of Rooting Media on Rooting and Root Growth of Rose Cuttings (장미의 삽목발근에 미치는 삽목용토의 영향)

  • This study was conducted to determine the optimum rooting media composition for the production of high-quality rose cuttings. The percentage of rooting was highest in peatmoss (P) and coarse vermiculite (CV) mixture (1:2, v/v). In 'Little Mable' and 'Suplesse', the rate was above 95%, and 'Red Velvet', 'Noblesse', 'Rote Rose', and 'Sweetness' showed 100% rooting rate. 'Rote Rose' showed lowest rooting rate, but in the composition, the rate was 100%. In the composition, root growth was accelerated. Root number, root weight, and root diameter increased in P:CV (1:2) mixture. However, root length increased in peatmoss and perlite mixture (1:2). This results might be caused by the water holding capacity and porosity of the rooting media composition.

Deductive Argument and Inductive Argument (연역논증과 귀납논증)

  • The aim of this paper is to clarify the difference between the concept of deduction-induction and Aristotle's concept of syllogismos-epagoge. First, Aristotle does not use the expression 'invalid syllogismos'. But a valid deduction is distinguished from a invalid deduction in modern logic. Second, from Aristotle's point of view syllogismos is paralleled by epagoge. Because syllogismos is equivalent to epagoge in logical form. But a disturbing lack of parallelism exists between deduction and induction by which the standards for establishing inductive conclusions are more demanding than those for deductive ones. Third, instructors in introductory logic courses ordinarily stress the need to evaluate arguments first in terms of the strength of the conclusion relative to the premises. Accordingly, students may be told to assume that premises are true. But Aristotle does not assume that premises are true. A syllogismos start from the conceptually true premise and a epagoge start from the empirically true premise.

A Study on the Islamic Libraries in the Middle Ages (중세 이슬람 도서관 연구)

  • Western society has depreciated the Middle Ages as the 'Darkness'. However, if Islam, which led the medieval millennium, had not spread paper and art of papermaking, and Arabic translations to the Western countries, translating and interpreting Arabic manuscripts into Greek and Latin, Gutenberg's printing press, Reformation, and Renaissance could not take place. They were not destructors of ancient knowledge and civilization, but were the protagonists of restoration and resurrection. The base camp is the Mosque and Islamic library(the House of Wisdom), which was referred to as a Muslim community. This study traced Islamic libraries that emerged in the process of establishing the Islamic dynasties and controlling Arabian Peninsula, Africa, Iberian Peninsula. For this purpose, the Islamic library was divided into the caliph library led by the royal families, the public library attached to the mosques, and the private library established by the viziers and scholars, etc. Then, the researcher analyzed history and development, roles and functions, impact and Importance on human civilization, and stagnation and decline, focusing on major libraries that existed in the Islamic cities of Damascus, Mecca, Baghdad, Aleppo, Cordoba, Cairo, Fes, Tunis, etc.
