  • The Miniaturized Fingerprint Imager (MFI) is a slim optical mouse that can be used as an input device for application to wireless portable personnel communication devices such as smartphones. In this study, we have fabricated key optical components of an MFI, including the illumination optical components and imaging lens. An LED beam-shaping lens consisting of an aspheric lens and a Fresnel facet was successfully machined using a diamond turning machine (DTM). A customized V-shaped groove for beam path banding was fabricated by the bulk micromachining of silicon that was coated with aluminum using the shadow effect in thermal evaporation. The imaging lens and arrayed multilevel Fresnel lenses were fabricated by electron beam lithography and FAB etching, respectively. The proposed optical components are extremely compact and have high optical efficiency; therefore, they are applicable to ultraslim optical systems.

  • This paper reports the optical design of the MR-16 lamp series with a LED second lens and an aspherical plano-convex lens suitable for a simple and rapid injection molding fabrication method. The fabrication and performance evaluation of the MR-16 lamp series, which was designed with a narrow angular distribution of luminous intensity, were conducted to replace halogen lamps with LED lamps. Four types of LED lamps were fabricated, which have angular distributions of luminous intensity of $22.4^{\circ}$, $31.1^{\circ}$, $37.3^{\circ}$, and $59.9^{\circ}$ and luminous efficiencies of 76.5 lm/W, 75.2 lm/W, 72.0 lm/W, and 77.8 lm/W, respectively, while their spreading angles with an illuminance uniformity of 81% were $3^{\circ}$, $15^{\circ}$, $22^{\circ}$, and $49^{\circ}$, respectively. After eliminating a yellow tail of the LED lamps using a diffusion sheet, the angular distributions of the luminous intensity were measured to be $20.8^{\circ}$, $31.5^{\circ}$, $37.8^{\circ}$, and $68.7^{\circ}$.

  • The existing field survey and aerial photography involve the waste of manpower and economic loss in the coastline survey. To minimize these disadvantages, the digitization for efficient coastline extraction was conducted in this study using the points extracted from the standard coastline of the approximate highest high water and the diverse satellite images (KOMPSAT-3, SPOT-5, Landsat-8 and Quickbird-2), and the comparative accuracy analysis was conducted. The differences between the standard coastline points of the approximate highest high water and the coastline of each satellite were smallest for KOMPSAT-3, followed by Quickbird-2, SPOT-5 and Landsat-8. The significant probability from between the multipurpose applications satellite and Quickbird-2 (significant probability two-tailed) was statistically significant at 1% significance level. Therefore, high-resolution satellite images are required to efficiently extract the coastline, and KOMPSAT-3, from which images are easily acquired at a low cost, will enable the most efficient coastline extraction without external support.

  • The increasing integration of intelligent information technologies within organizational systems has amplified the risk to personal information security. This escalation, in turn, has fueled growing apprehension about an organization's capabilities in safeguarding user data. While Internet users adopt a multifaceted approach in assessing a company's information security, existing research on the multiple dimensions of information security is decidedly sparse. Moreover, there is a conspicuous gap in investigations exploring whether users' evaluations of organizational information security differ across industry types. With an aim to bridge these gaps, our study strives to identify which information security attributes users perceive as most critical and to delve deeper into potential variations in these attributes across different industry sectors. To this end, we conducted a structured survey involving 498 users and utilized the analytic hierarchy process (AHP) to determine the relative significance of various information security attributes. Our results indicate that users place the greatest importance on the technological dimension of information security, followed closely by transparency. In the technological arena, banks and domestic portal providers earned high ratings, while for transparency, banks and governmental agencies stood out. Contrarily, social media providers received the lowest evaluations in both domains. By introducing a multidimensional model of information security attributes and highlighting the relative importance of each in the realm of information security research, this study provides a significant theoretical contribution. Moreover, the practical implications are noteworthy: our findings serve as a foundational resource for Internet service companies to discern the security attributes that demand their attention, thereby facilitating an enhancement of their information security measures.

  • This study suggests a board fence design with a convergence-style mural. The basic structure contains pictorial factors with mural paintings on the fence. It is also equipped with electricity facilities inside the fence itself, so it has not only the unique function of the fence but also the complexity and expandability in order to be used as a garden lighting and security alarm system. All the components meet the standard so they can be manufactured in a factory. Through this design proposal, this study tries to suggest a fence which encourages personal or social communication one another as well as the basic function of the fence. As a result, the fence realizes a broad convergence function of its usefulness for social functioning such as the crime prevention as well as an esthetic function.

  • The Journal of Industrial Management Society in Republic of Korea. In order to explore the effect of overseas language training on the development of foreign language accuracy, this study investigates the errors in English compositions produced by 27 Korean university students who received overseas language training for 15 weeks. For data collection, students were made to take two tests, a pretest and a posttest, a semester apart. The differences in composition elements and errors between the two tests were examined and statistical analyses were performed. Results showed that while the average length of the compositions and sentences increased, the number of sentences decreased in the posttest. Also, more errors were found in the posttest where the students tried to construct more complex sentence structures. The students' ability to generate sentences were found to have improved, while their competence in using grammatical elements accurately within sentences did not see great improvement. This implies that overseas language training was not effective for aiding the development of one's grammatical accuracy of a foreign language over a 15-week period for the students.

  • In the intelligent video surveillance system, moving objects generally are detected by calculating difference between background and input image. However formation of reliable background is known to be still challenging task because it is hard to cope with the complicated background. In this paper we propose an adaptive background formation algorithm considering stationary object. At first, the initial background is formed by averaging the initial N frames. Object detection is performed by comparing the current input image and background. If the object is at a stop for a long time, we consider the object as stationary object and background is replaced with the stationary object. On the other hand, if the object is a moving object, the pixels in the object are not reflected for background modification. Because the proposed algorithm considers gradual illuminance change, slow moving object and stationary object, we can form background adaptively and robustly which has been shown by experimental results.
