최근 국내외적으로 기업경쟁이 치열해지고 개인 작업뿐만 아니라 그룹 공동작업을 지원하여 조직 전체의 팀웍과 작업 생산성을 향상시켜 "경영 효율을 증대"하고 "조직 경쟁력을 강화"하는 전략적 가치가 부각되면서 조직 경쟁력을 강화하는 방안으로 그룹웨어의 활용 범위가 급속히 넓혀지고 있다. 본 논문에서는 이러한 그룹웨어에서의 멀티미디어의 역할과 활용방안을 조명해 보고자 한다.

디지털 도서관은 기존 도서관과 달리 시간과 공간에 구애받지 않고 원하는 정보를 보다 효율적으로 획득할 수 있도록 정보 입력/저장/출력, 정보 저작권 보호, 정보 전달 등의 핵심 기능을 제공한다. 그런데 실세계의 정보는 멀티미디어 정보이므로 디지털 도서관이 이를 지원하기 위해서는 각 핵심기능이 확장되어야 하므로, 현존하는 디지털 멀티미디어 도서관은 각 기능의 멀티미디어 지원 수준에 따라 다양하게 나눌 수 있다. 구축 사례를 중심으로 디지털 멀티미디어 도서관의 현황을 살펴보고 이상적인 디지털 멀티미디어 도서관이 갖추어야 할 필수 기능을 정의하고 이를 토대로 나아갈 방향을 제시한다.

Database servers that are used to provide multimedia information services in World Wide Web(WWW) environment have to support the access control mechanism that allows authorized users to access the constructed databases. In this paper, we define an authorization model as well as authorization policies to enforce the proper access control on databases in the BADA-III object-oriented database server and propose an access evaluation algorithm. Also we implement this model and the algorithm in the BADA-III database server. Considering the service environment of the WWW, we expect that database service providers can simply and effectively protect their data using the proposed model.

This paper presents the Multiple Keyword Retrieval Method under the Object-Oriented Multimedia Database Model. The multiple keyword registration and retrieval algorithms are developed to reduce the partial matching problem in multimedia data retrieval. For this, proper storage structures of the lookup tables are designed. And also, in order to maintain the constant retrieval time, media data files are organized with B+ tree structure.

Similarity indexing and searching are well known to be difficult in high-dimensional applications such as multimedia databases. Especially, they become more difficult when multiple features have to be indexed together. In this paper, we propose a novel indexing method called the GB-index that is designed to efficiently handle complex similarity queries as well as relevance feedback in high-dimensional image databases. In order to provide the flexibility in controlling multiple features and query objects, the GB-index treats each dimension independently The efficiency of the GB-index is realized by specialized bitmap indexing that represents all objects in a database as a set of bitmaps. Main contributions of the GB-index are three-fold: (1) It provides a novel way to index high-dimensional data; (2) It efficiently handles complex similarity queries; and (3) Disjunctive queries driven by relevance feedback are efficiently treated. Empirical results demonstrate that the GB-index achieves great speedups over the sequential scan and the VA-file.
