  • In this study comparison estimates travel times with observed travel time. In generally, peak flood discharges decrease become travel times longer. It is closely related to storage constant for the watershed routing of a flood. There are so many empirical formulas available for the estimation of travel time, storage coefficients and lag time but results computed generally show great different depending on individual formulas. When calculated flood discharge depend on the travel times varying the discharge. In this study the Wichun travel time shorter optimization travel time than observed travel time for the rusa and memi. There are showed good results for flood discharges, water level and velocity of the memi at the Younggok.

  • In this study, the simulation and analysis for the inundation in a coastal urban area according to the storm surge height are carried out using a 2-D numerical model. The target area considered in this study is a part of the new town of Changwon City, Gyungsangnam-do and this area was extremely damaged due to the storm surge generated during the period of the typhoon "Maemi" in 2003. For the purpose of the verification of the numerical model applied in this study, the simulated results are compared and analyzed with the temporal storm surge heights observed at the tide station in Masan bay and inundation traces in an urban area. Moreover, in order to investigate the influence of super typhoons possible in the future, the results simulated with the storm surge heights increased 1.25 and 1.5 times compared with those observed during the period of typhoon "Maemi" are compared and analyzed.

  • The trichogrammatidae ego parasite of the green rice leafhopper (GRLH), paracentrobia andoi, were investigated to know their parasitic activities after overwintering in the paddy banks and fallow fields, their seasonal variation and per cent parasitism in the paddy fields of Gyeongnam provincial O.R.D. at Jinju from 1982 to 1984. The parasitic activities of Paracentrobia andoi after overwintering in the Paddy banks in early Masch were high and tended to decrease remarkably since early April by moving to the fallow fields. The parasitic rate of paracentrobia andoi on GRLH was $21\%$ between late April and early May. the peak of egg laying period of GRLH. The per cent parasitism of the wasps in fallow fields was an average of $0\%$ in Gyeochang and Namji and $9.6-29.2\%$ in Namhae, Kimhae and Jinju. The parasitic activites of Paracentrobia andoi had three peakrs in paddy field, however, the highest peak was ovserved between mid- August and early October. The per cent egg parasitism of Paracentrobia andoi was an average of $16.5\%$ on second generation of Nepotettix cinctireps and $36.7\%$ on third generation of the leafhopper.

  • Kangwon province has been suffering from the various types of disasters and these disasters stand in the way to sustainable development. The heavy rainfall by typhoon RUSA in 2002 and HAEMI in 2003 damaged to property and bodily injury, and gave us a lesson. Even if the refuge activities plan by local government plan for disaster were established with rainfall event, it could not its role in practice. Beside it, the potential disaster risk remains still in existence because the disaster restoration work aims to original state. Therefore, in this study we focused on the point at issue of disaster countermeasure plan by local government and its integrated plan considering local characteristics.

  • The gustatory sense organs in the mouthparts of th adult Green Leafhopper (Cicadella viridis L.) were observed by scanning electron microscope. The gustatory sensilla were composed of ten D-sensilla on the precibarim, eight P-sensilla on the wall of both side of eipharyngeal basin, and two H-sensilla in the food canal of the hypopharynx. D- and P-sensilla were again subdivided into 2 subtypes as two types by their morphology. Beneath the cuticle of epipharynx, two paris of nerve bundles were seen originating from D- and P-sensilla, respectively. And a pair of nerve bundles from H-sensilla, beneath the cuticle of hypoharynx, was observed.

  • Studies were conducted in Mt. Namsan, Seoul, during the summer of 1997 and 1998 using racemic disparlure to determine seasonal occurrence and circadian activity in male gypsy moth, and size of egg mass and wing length of male moth. Male gypsy moths occurred from middle part of July until middle part of August and peaked in late part of July. Circadian activity of male moths initiated from 12: 00h and continued until 21: 00h, and the peak time was between 14: 00h and 17: 00h. Mean number of moths captured per trap in 1997 was larger than that in 1998, however, eggs per mass, egg size and wing length were not significantly different between the two years, 1997 and 1998.

  • Following a preceding study if Shin et al.(2004), wave fields for a month if September if 2003 are simulated based on the modified WAM cycle 4 model that enables the precise wave hindcasting with fine spatial meshes, and characteristics of extreme waves at the south roast if Koreo are analyzed The accuracy if applied wave model is verified by comparing computed wave parameters and corresponding ones measured at Ieodo ocean research station. The wave hindasting if typhoon 'Maemi' with an hour time interval reveals the extreme wave characteristics at 4 primary locations if south coast of Korea as follows: 1) At the front sea of Chaguido in the south of Jeju-do, the maximum significant wave height, moon wave period and mean wave direction appear to be 7.41m, 13.65s and $6.4^{\circ}$, respectively at 16:00 KST if Sep. 12, 2003. 2) At the entrance of Masan Bay, 12.50m, 13.65s and $1.2^{\circ}$ at 21:00 KST if Sep. 12. 3) At the front sea of Suyoung Bay, 13.85m, 13.81s and $0.2^{\circ}$ at 22;00 KST if Sep. 12. 4) At the front sea of Ulsan port, 11.00m, 13.25s and $28^{\circ}$ at 23:00 KST if Sep.

  • Ricania sp. lay eggs into the new twigs of blueberry and suck nutrients causing growth retardation and a sooty mold symptom. This study was conducted to investigate the emergence success and developmental period of overwintered eggs of Ricania sp. under the seven constant temperatures from 10 to $34^{\circ}C$ by $4^{\circ}C$ intervals (14L:10D). We also monitored the emergence time of the Ricania sp. nymph at blueberry by 3 ~ 4 day interval using a modified leaf clip cage. Development times from the overwintered egg to $1^{st}$ nymph were 107.1, 54.5, 33.9, 25.3, 25.1 and 16.7 days and the emergence successes were 23.1, 30.8, 13.8, 21.7, 11.9, and 0.6% at 14, 18, 22, 26, 30 and $34^{\circ}C$, respectively except at $10^{\circ}C$. The developmental periods were decreased with increasing temperatures. First emergence date of the nymphs in the field was between 19 and 22 May, and the average emergence success was 19.6%. The present study might be helpful to establish the management strategy of Ricania sp. based on the biological characteristic.

  • Laboratory experiments were conducted to clarity the early-spline host·selectivity by the small brown planthopper(SBPH), Laodelphax striatellus Fallen, and green rice Leafhopper(GLH), Nephotettix cincticeps Uhle., on the bailey (the variety Suweon #18) and water foxtail (Alopeculus aequadis Sosbol). The host selectivity was evaluated on the bases of feeding and ovipositional perferences of the insects on the plants and their biological effects on the plants. The nymphs of SBPH much more preferred barley for feeding than water forxtail, while the nymphs of GLH relatively prefered water foxtail. There was no significant difference in ovipositional preference by SBPH among the test plants, and ovipositional preference by GLH Ivas significantly lower on barley and water foxtail than on rice. Nymphal growth an4 adult emergence of SBPH were significantly faster and higher on barley than on water foxtail. No adult emergence of GLH was observed on barley, and adult emergence was still quite lower even on water foxtail. The adult of SBPH fed on barley showed longer longevity aad higher fecundity than that of SBPH from water foxtail and rice. The adult GLH fed ell water foxtail shorted relatively shorter longevity and to)ver fecundity than that of GLH on rice. In conculsion, barley seems to be more adequate for spring host of SBPH than water foxtail, but barley may not be quite adequate for spring host of GLH. At presont moment, GLH seems rather to primarily select the water foxtail than barley as a spring host, even if the water foxtail is not so adequate for development of GLH.
