  • To quantify irregular body motions the time series analysis was applied to the gait study. The motions obtained from gait experiment are complex to exhibit nonlinear behaviors. The purpose of this study is to measure quantitatively the characteristics of the major six joints of the body during walking. The gait experiments were carried out for eighteen young males walking on a motor driven treadmill. Joint motions were captured using eight video cameras, and then three dimensional kinematics of the neck and the upper and lower extremities were computed by KWON 3D motion analysis software. The largest Lyapunov exponent was calculated from the time series to quantify stabilities of each joint. The results provides a data set of nonlinear dynamic characteristics for six joints engaged in normal walking.

  • Autonomous mobile robot agents(AMRAs) are robots which perform a given task by the same distributed self-organizing rules. In this paper, we let them form an equi-distance circle for the task of cooperative behaviors. Here, we suggest an algorithm to perform the taqk and then utilize a fuzzy system to improve the algorithm. It is shown that various cooperative activities appear in the simulation and particularly chaotic behaviors also appear by increasing the robot speed. Moreover, we prove the characteristics of this chaotic behaviors by calculating Lyapunov exponent.

  • This study proposes that analysis and evaluation method of time series ultrasonic signal using the chaotic feature extrac-tion for degradation extent. Features extracted from time series data using the chaotic time series signal analyze quantitatively material degradation extent. For this purpose analysis objective in this study if fractal dimension lyapunov exponent and strange attractor on hyperspace. The lyapunov exponent is a measure of the rate at which nearby trajectories in phase space diverge. Chaotic trajectories have at least one positive lyapunov exponent. The fractal dimension appears as a metric space such as the phase space trajectory of a dynamical syste, In experiment fractal(correlation) dimensions and lyapunov experiments showed values of mean 3.837-4.211 and 0.054-0.078 in case of degradation material The proposed chaotic feature extraction in this study can enhances ultrasonic pattern recognition results from degrada-tion signals.

  • Statistical differences between men and women are investigated for a total of eleven joint motions during level walking. Human locomotion which exhibits nonlinear dynamical behaviors is quantified by the chaos analysis. Time series of joint motions was obtained from gait experiments with ten young males and ten young females. Body motions were captured using eight video cameras, and the corresponding angular displacements of the neck and the upper body and lower extremity were computed by motion analysis software. The maximal Lyapunov exponents for eleven joints were calculated from attractors constructed and then were analyzed statistically by one-way ANOVA test to find any difference between the genders. This study shows that sexual differences in joint motions were statistically significant at the shoulder, knee and hip joints.

  • In this paper, an active vibration control of a tensioned elastic axially moving string is investigated. The dynamics of the translating string ale described by a non-linear partial differential equation coupled with an ordinary differential equation. The time varying control in the form of the right boundary transverse motions is suggested to stabilize the transverse vibration of the translating continuum. A control law based on Lyapunov's second method is derived. Exponential stability of the translating string under boundary control is verified. The effectiveness of the proposed controller is shown through the simulations.

  • Quantifying dynamic stability is important to assessment of falling risk or functional recovery for leg injured people. Human locomotion is complex and known to exhibit nonlinear dynamical behaviors. The purpose of this study is to quantify major joints of the body using chaos analysis during walking. Time series of the chaotic signals show how gait patterns change over time. The gait experiments were carried out for ten young males walking on a motorized treadmill. Joint motions were captured using eight video cameras, and then three dimensional kinematics of the neck and the upper and lower extremities were computed by KWON 3D motion analysis software. The correlation dimension and the largest Lyapunov exponent were calculated from the time series to quantify stabilities of the joints. • In this paper, we propose that the chaotic behavior analysis in the chaotic mobile robot embedding Arnold, equation, Chua's equation and hyper-chaos equation. In order to analysis of chaotic behavior in the mobile robot, we apply not only qualitative analysis such as time-series, embedding phase plane, but also quantitative analysis such as Lyapunov exponent in the mobile robot with obstacle.

  • The nonlinear dynamic characteristic of a straight tube conveying fluid with constraints and an attached mass on the tube is examined in this study An experimental apparatus with an elastomer tube conveying water which has an attached mass and constraints is made and comparisons are made between the theoretical results from the non-linear equation of motion of piping system and the experimental results. The comparisons show that the tube is destabilized as the magnitude of the attached mass increases, and stabilized as the position of the attached mass closes to the fixed end. In case of a small end-mass, the system shows complicated and different types of solutions. For a constant end-mass. the system undergoes a series of bifurcations after the first Hopf bifurcation, as the flow velocity increases. which causes chaotic motions of the tube eventually.

  • Objectives : The hypothesis that the brain is a nonlinear dynamical system exhibiting deterministic chaos has offered new perspectives to the investigation of information processing in the brain of schizophrenic patients. It seemed worthwhile to estimate nonlinear measures of the electroencephalogram (EEG) in positive and negative schizophrenics, because nonlinear measures might serve as indicators of the specific brain function in schizophrenia according to specific psychopathologies. Method : Previous studies which estimated the chaoticity in the brain of schizophrenia with nonlinear methods recorded the EEGs at limited electrodes, so we tried to record EEGs from 16 channels for nonlinear analysis in 8 positive and 9 negative schizophrenics and 8 healthy control subjects. We employed a new method to calculate the nonlinear invariant measures. For limited noisy data, this algorithm was strikingly faster and more accurate than previous ones. Results : Our results showed that the patients with negative schizophrenia had lower the first positive Lyapunov exponents ($L_1$) than the positive schizophrnics and control subjects at $T_3$ lead. Positive symptoms were positively correlated with $L_1$ in $C_3,\;O_1$ leads, and negatively correlated with $C_4$ lead. Conclusion : These results suggest that if clinical variables such as psychopathology or neuroleptic medications would be well controlled, the nonlinear analysis of the EEGs in patients with schizophrenia seems to be a useful tool in analyzing EEG data to explore the neurodynamics.
