  • Ftheta Lens, whose image height is proportional to its field view angle, is one of the most important parts in Laser Scanning Unit(LSU). In this paper $f{\theta}$ lens design, mold production and modification method of lens design and mold are introduced. Lens design was carried out with Zemax and Special Toric surfaces were applied for lens surfaces to minimize distortion both in main and sub scanning directions. And a high precision machine with 1nm resolution was used to fabricate lens mold cores. After injection the lens was evaluated and the difference from design was examined. This difference was compensated by modifying lens design and new lens mold cores were made according to modified lens design to obtain the quality of original design.

  • Ultra precise processed parts are required together with the development of optoelectronics industry. As important parts of optoelectronics industry, there are ferrule of optical connector and lens for optical devices. In particular, the lens requires high reliability with high precision without including flaws. These optical modules need ultra precise processing in order to reduce the loss of light sources and various nondestructive inspections are carried out in the finishing stage to separate good and bad quality products. Therefore, it was analyzed through the characteristics of response of amplitude and resonant frequency according to the mass variations of aspheric lens that is used currently in laser printers.

  • Makerspace was constructed to assist the public in creating new business, industry and market opportunities by combining their creative ideas with technology. So far, in Korea, a total of 58 makerspaces have been constructed and are running currently. Makerspaces are equipped with a variety of high-tech devices such as 3D printing technology and a laser cutter as means for transforming ideas into their prototypes. In this study, we examined users' experiences in makerspaces using online questionnaires and face-to-face interviews. We then presented motivations for using makerspace, interest in using it, concerns about using technologies, and other issues related to using makerspaces. Based on the results, we proposed three suggestions to improve users' experiences in makerspaces. These suggestions include: (1) supporting teaching and learning practices in makerspaces, (2) providing professional development opportunities for instructors in makerspaces, and (3) promoting innovative services that accommodate diverse users' needs.

  • This paper identifies a cause of pick up noise in a laser printer and a relationship between pick up noise and major components related to pick up noise. A pick up sound is affected by many components such as spring force, spring constant, and friction coefficient. Objective evaluation for the pick up sound is difficult because of back ground sound such as operating sound. Especially, a sound between a friction pad and a paper in the process of printing has become an essential issue in an aspect of quality evaluation. However the existing criteria for determining the above sound have solely relied on human's subjective judgments; which highlights the requirement to objectify these criteria. In this paper, the standard of existing pick up noise is established by finding the tonality, which is a psychoacoustic parameter, of noticeable limit sound level. Based on the findings of the method, the study has found factors which cause pick up noise and suggests the substitution of following components of printers such as spring constants, spring force, and the quality of friction pads. As a result, it is confirmed that the proposed pick up noise index has usefulness to classify whether existence of pick up noise with an objective evaluation and not to occur the noise based on design optimized combination of laser printer components.

  • Low-aberration holographic scanners that eliminate the need for lenses and mirrors promise to greatly reduce the cost of laser printers and image scanners. In this study, a holographic optical element that can simultaneously scan and focus a laser beam is designed with analytic ray tracing method. An analytic and experimental work is conducted in which we investigated the hologram structure and hologon configuration for linear aberration-free scanning. For a prototype scanner, a He-Ne laser is used to manufacture and reconstruct the hologram, and the measured bow is about $\pm$133$\mu\textrm{m}$ and spot size(half-intensity beamwidth) in under 100$\mu\textrm{m}$ for a 300 mm scan length without using a correcting lens or mirror. The diffraction efficiency is about 55$\pm$5%, which is acceptably flat. The experimentally measured results agrees with the computed values. From this fact, we can conclude that the computed results using ray tracing method are practical and useful values, and have a potential for use in high resolution laser printers.

  • In printing systems, the reliability of printed material depends on the ability of the toner film to remain adhered to the paper surface. In order to measure the strength between the toner film and the paper surface, a peel-off test is often performed. After conducting the test, the amount of toner film remaining on the paper is measured in order to determine the interfacial strength. The results of this test can be affected by many factors such as the peeling rate, weight of the roller used, and dwell time of tape. Sensitivity analysis was performed with respect to peeling rate, weight of roller and dwell time of tape at different levels. It was found that the interfacial strength increased with an increase in these main parameters. On the other hand, the trend with respect to the percentage of toner loss was different. Further, the interfacial strength and percentage of toner loss were significantly affected by the peeling rate.

  • The development of a staged combustion cycle engine with higher perfomance is essential to provide higher transport capability of space launch vehicles. The combustor head of engine has a cone-shaped head and its manifold of combustor has a very complicated structure. The head and manifold have been manufactured by casting or machining methode. Metal 3D printing technologies are recently known as one of promising methods to improve manufacturing process for them because they are possible to over come limitations of the two methods. In this paper, a selective laser sintering method is used to make test materials and their physical properties are studying by changing its operation parameters to establish the better processing conditions. It is found that the 3D printing method is acceptable to manufacturing the head or manifold of combustor for staged combustion cycle engine.

  • Marine seismic refraction surveys have been carried out by Korea Institute of Geology, Mining and Materials(KIGAM) since 1984. The recording of refraction data was based on analog instrumentation. Therefore the resolution of refraction data was not good enough to distinguish many layers. The objective of the interpretation of seismic refraction data is the determination of intervals and critically refracted seismic wave propagation velocities through the layers beneath the sea floor. To determine intervals and velocities precisely, the resolution of refraction data should be enhanced. The intent of the study is to improve the quality of shallow marine refraction data by the digital technique using microcomputer- based acquisition and processing system. The system consists of an IBM AT microcomputer clone, an analog-digital(A/D) converter. A mass storage unit and a parallel processing board. The A/D converter has 12 bits of precision and 250 kHz of conversion rate. The magneto-optical disk drive is used for the mass storage of seismic refraction data. Shallow marine seismic refraction surveys have been carried out using the system at 6 locations off Ulsan and Pusan area. The refraction data were acquired by the radio sonobuoy. The refraction profiles have been produced by the laser printer with 300 dpi resolution after the basic computer processing. 5-9 layers were interpreted from digital refraction profiles, whereas 2-4 layers were interpreted from analog refraction profiles. the propagation velocities of sediments were interpreted as 1.6-2.1 km/sec. The propagation velocities of acoustic basement were interpreted as 2.4-2.7 km/sec off Ulsan area, 4.8 km/sec off Pusan area.

  • Among the digital radiography systems, the computed radiography Image Plate Detector System is most frequently being used for the general radiography and also this system commonly diffracts the x-ray images since it is the system that is influenced by the light diffusion from the fluorescent substances. In this study, by using the X-ray Generator, a comparative analysis has been made between 2 different models of computer radiography image plate investigate each model's resolution and sharpness through the modulation transfer function(MTF) measurement. For the analysis, two image plates for general radiography one Fuji ST-VN model(more than 3years old) and one Fuji ST-VL model(less than 2years old) that are currently being used in "Hospital A" were sampled for the MTF measurement here. As the experimental method for this study, the resolution chart method has been carried out by using X-ray generator. Also all the experimental data were printed out by laser printer and measured by microdensitometer. As the results of the experiment carried out in this study, some differences have been found between the two different IP models and Fuji ST-VL has shown its excellence in both of the resolution and the sharpness fields.

  • We measure a beam diameter of scan and sub-scan direction of LSD (Laser Scanning Urnt) which uses $fheta$ lens produced by injecLion molding method as a scanning lens. While the measured beam diameter in scan direction, which is $62muextrm{m}$ to $68\mu\textrm{m}$, shows similar size comparing to the design beam diameter, the sub-scan beam diameter shows sIzable beam diameter deviation as much as 37 11m ranging from $78\mu\textrm{m}$ to $115\mu\textrm{m}$. Injection molding lens has the surface figure error due to the shrinkage III the cooling time and the internal distortion (birefringence) due to the uneven cooling conditIOn so that these bring about wavefront aberration (i.e., the enlargement of beam size), and are eventually expre~sed as the deterioration of the pdnting image. In this paper. we first measure and analyze beam diameter, birefringence (polanzation ratio), and asphedcal figure error of mIens in order to know the principle cause of the beam diameter deviation in sub-scan directIOn. And Lhen. through the analysis of a designed depth of focus and a calculated field curvature (imaging position of the optical axis directIon) using the above figure elTor data, we know Lhat the birefringence IS the main factor of sizable beam diameter deVIation in sub-scan direction. ction.
