Performance Tests of 3D Data Models for Laser Radar Simulation (레이저레이더 시뮬레이션을 위한 3차원 데이터 모델의 성능 테스트)

  • Experiments using real guided weapons for the development of the LADAR(Laser radar) are not practical. Therefore, we need computing environment that can simulate the 3D detections by LADAR. Such simulations require dealing with large sized data representing buildings and terrain over large area. And they also need the information of 3D target objects, for example, material and echo rate of building walls. However, currently used 3D models are mostly focused on visualization maintained as file-based formats and do not contain such semantic information. In this study, as a solution to these problems, a method to use a spatial DBMS and a 3D model suitable for LADAR simulation is suggested. The 3D models found in previous studies are developed to serve different purposes, thus, it is not easy to choose one among them which is optimized for LADAR simulation. In this study, 4 representative 3D models are first defined, each of which are tested for different performance scenarios. As a result, one model, "Body-Face", is selected as being the most suitable model for the simulation. Using this model, a test simulation is carried out.

  • This research focuses on convenient radar received power prediction method for detection predictions of North Korea SLBM(Submarine Launched Ballistic Missile). Recently, North Korea tested launching of SLBM which is threatening international security. Therefore, for active respondence to these threat, it is essential to analyze the radar detection prediction of SLBM. In this point of view, this work suggests a method for detection predictions for SLBM by simulating of RCS(Radar Cross Section) and wave propagation.

  • ITS(Intelligent Transport System) has been researched actively to guarantee the smooth traffic and the safety of the vehicle. In recent, as the sensor for the measurement of distance between vehicles, the FMCW radar system in millimeter wave band has been interested in ITS. Actually, 47, 60, 77, 94 and 139 GHz have been assigned for the vehicle radar frequencies in Europe and Japan. However, the performances of the FMCW radar are deteriorated due to the interferences from the surrounding radars and mobile devices. In this paper, in order to model and simulate the performance of FMCW radar under the exterior interference, we propose a new performance parameter, RER(Radius Error Rate), which contains the information of the range error due to the interferences, and show the effectiveness of the proposed parameter.

  • 3차원 오브젝트의 위치 및 정보 획득을 위한 레이저레이더 시뮬레이션의 성능을 향상시키기 위해서는 시뮬레이션의 결과로 획득되는 공간의 범위와 해당 사물의 정보를 정확하고 빠르게 획득해야 한다. 본 연구에서는 이러한 레이더 시뮬레이션의 성능을 향상시키기 위해서 3차원 공간 데이터를 공간DB에 저장하고, 질의를 수행하여 해당 3차원 오브젝트의 정보를 효과적으로 추출해내는 방법론을 제시하였다. 이를 위해 본 연구에서는 시뮬레이션에서 사용되는 3차원 지형지물(지형, 건물 사물 등) 모델의 정보를 데이터모델링을 통해 토폴로지 형태를 갖도록 하였으며, 이를 공간DB에 저장하고, 레이저 신호와의 연산 쿼리를 시행하는 과정을 예시하였다. 이러한 과정을 구현하기 위하여 OGC 기반의 공간 데이터 타입, 함수, 인덱스들을 제공하는 PostgreSQL과 PostGIS를 사용하였다. 지형, 건물, 탱크 등 이렇게 세 가지의 범주의 사물로 나누어 각각을 공간DB로 구현, 쿼리를 실시하였다. 지형정보는 TIN을 사용하였고, 건물의 좌표 값들은 도화원도에서 추출하였으며, 탱크와 같은 사물은 VRML 모델의 좌표 값을 사용하였다.

  • Automatic Collision Prevention Training and RADAR Simulation Training, designated educations by the STCW Convention, are essential for officers to complete in order to board a ship. Recently, designated education institution standard based curriculum and requirements of the necessary facilities have been placed as a regulatory advisory requiring each institutions to match this and introduce equipment for simulation education, the FMSS(Full Mission Simulator System). Since the introduction of this research until today, a survey has been executed in order to find out the effect of utilizing the FMSS in ARPA/RADRA/Simulation Training for a period of 1 year. The result showed that 2.13times have been more effective. In addition, based on the results, identifying problems that occur during the education period and providing solutions to these problems have been proposed.

  • A mariner cadet gains the ability to identify and avoid potential collisions with other ships through ARPA/Radar simulation education. This research surveyed first domestic and overseas's rules (e.g., MOMAF's Standard, the STCW Convention, etc.) of the simulation education, upon investigation the only content and timing of this simulation-based education are specified according to these rules, and maritime education institutions issue the related certification autonomously after a student has taken the simulation because no simulation education module exists to further guide the ARPA/Radar simulation. As a result, it is difficult for students to acquire consistent maritime ability through ARPA/Radar simulation. This paper discusses standardization of these education modules to produce more consistent mariner ability, and verify the degree of improvement of education that would be achieved by enacting the proposed education module. The simulation education system used in maritime institutions in Korea was investigated, and scenarios reflecting traffic flow in actual waterways was proposed based on marine traffic surveys so teaching modules can educate/assess more effectively based on core marine abilities. Improvements in education and training were also verified using data collected over 2 years based on a standardized module. Each education institution can enact an effective, systematic education approach using standardized ARPA/Radar education modules proposed in this paper, and this can set a foundation to contribute to safer vessel navigation by improving maritime abilities.

Detection Subsurface Voids in Concrete Using Simulation Analysis of Radar Responses for frequency Variations (전자파 레이더 주파수대역별 시뮬레이션 해석에 의한 콘크리트내 층간 연속 공동의 검출 특성)

  • This study introduces a simulation model of radar responses from subsurface voids in concrete for their frequency variations. In this model, resolution and attenuation characteristics due to frequency variations are analyzed at each material interface which has different electromagnetic property. This model aims at the selection of best frequency of radar which can analyze the thickness of voids in concrete from radar responses. It can also be applied to estimate the limitation of propagation depth of radar on subsurface voids in concrete. The computed results show the radar images obtained by using a radar signal processing technique using convolution.

Use of Numerical Simulation for Water Area Observation by Microwave Radar (마이크로웨이브 레이더를 이용한 수역관측에 있어서의 수치 시뮬레이션 이용)

  • Numerical simulation technique has been developed to calculate microwave backscattering from water surface. The simulation plays a role of a substitute for experiments. Validation of the simulation was shown by comparing with experimental results. Water area observations by microwave radar have been simulated to evaluate algorithms and systems. Furthermore, the simulation can be used to understand microwave scattering mechanism on the water surface. The simulation has applied to the various methods for water area observations, and the utilizations of the simulation are introduced in this paper. In the case of fixed radar, we show following examples, 1. Radar image with a pulse Doppler radar, 2. Effect of microwave irradiation width and 3. River observation (Water level observation). In addition, another application (4.Synthetic aperture radar image) is also described. The details of the applications are as follows. 1. Radar image with a pulse Doppler radar: A new system for the sea surface observation is suggested by the simulation. A pulse Doppler radar is assumed to obtain radar images that display amplitude and frequency modulation of backscattered microwaves. The simulation results show that the radar images of the frequency modulation is useful to measure sea surface waves. 2. Effect of microwave irradiation width: It is reported (Rheem[2008]) that microwave irradiation width on the sea surface affects Doppler spectra measured by a CW (Continuous wave) Doppler radar. Therefore the relation between the microwave irradiation width and the Doppler spectra is evaluated numerically. We have shown the suitable condition for wave height estimation by a Doppler radar. 3. River observation (Water level observation): We have also evaluated algorithms to estimate water current and water level of river. The same algorithms to estimate sea surface current and sea surface level are applied to the river observation. The simulation is conducted to confirm the accuracy of the river observation by using a pulse Doppler radar. 4. Synthetic aperture radar (SAR) image: SAR images are helpful to observe the global sea surface. However, imaging mechanisms are complicated and validation of analytical algorithms by SAR images is quite difficult. In order to deal with the problems, SAR images in oceanic scenes are simulated.

  • The detection field is an important sector of the factors influencing the battle field. Basically, The radar emits a radio wave to perform the detection in the existing way. However, When most existing radars identify target by signal processing to return radio wave, Environmental attenuation factor does not reflected. The radar using this radio wave has got the possibility changing detect result depending on attenuation factor by environmental conditions, The operational problems may arise in a real battle field. Therefore, In this paper, When emitted radio waves were come back, Reflecting the environmental attenuation factor, Experimental attempts to identify the target to enable more accurately.

  • 집중호우로 인한 이재민 발생, 침수 등 많은 인명 및 재산 피해가 지속적으로 발생함에 따라, 홍수재해를 사전에 대응하는 다양한 방법에 대한 관심이 증가하고 있다. 본 연구에서는 레이더 반사도를 이용하여 강우의 이동방향과 이동속도를 추정하여 초단기 정량강우예측(QPF)이 가능한 기법을 개발하고, 2016년 태풍 차바 사상에 대하여 비슬산 레이더자료를 이용하여 분석을 실시하였다. 개발기법은 1단계 레이더 강우강도 앙상블 멤버 생성, 2단계 레이더 강우강도 이동속도 계산, 3단계 레이더 강우강도 앙상블 초단기 예보, 4단계 초단기 예보 검증의 과정으로 이루어진다. 본 연구결과물인 레이더 기반 초단기 강우예측자료는 수치예보기반 강우예측자료 및 다양한 레이더 기반 초단기예보자료들과 함께 강우예측율 향상에 기여할 것으로 판단된다.
