This study was carried out to investigate the cultural charateristics of Fomitopsis pinicola in log woods. The optimal conditions for log cultivation as follows; 1) Light effect, natural light 2) $CO_2$, 0.2% below 3) Low temperature shock, $15^{\circ}C$ for 5 days 4) log-length, 100~120cm 5) It takes 52~65 days for primodia induction is possible to harvest fruiting bodies for 5~6 months. Meanwhile, the total of 10 species pest including Trichoderma sp. occurred during the cultivation.
In order to isolate naturally occurring novel Bacillus thuringiensis strains, we investigated the distribution of B. thuringiensis from granary which exist in Kyong-gi province, Korea. A total of 146 strains of B. thuringiensis producing spore and crystal wre isolated. The toxicity of B. thuringiensis isolates was examined against lepidopteran larvae (Bombyx mori), dipteran larvae (Culex pipiens) and coleopteran larvae (Sitophilus oryzae.), respectively. The results showed that a large number of B. thuringiensis isolates from granary dusts were isolated and most isolates wer toxic to lepidopterous larvae. Also, non-toxic B. thuringiensis isolate was common. In order to isolate many B. thuringiensis, therefore, it suggested that granary is favorable locality.
The Genus Cis Latreille known as fungivorous ciids is taxonomically reviewed for the first time from Korea. Six unrecorded species - Cis boleti (Scopoli, 1763); Cis seriatopilosus Motschulsky, 1861; Cis mikagensis Nobuchi & Wada, 1955; Cis jezoensis Nobuchi, 1960; Cis sasajii Kawanabe, 2001; Cis hieroglyphicus Reitter, 1877- are present. All of Cis members are associated with the fruiting body of higher fungi. The author provides the taxonomical information and the ecological information on the host fungi of the Korean Cis species.
Six species of oak are commonly found in Korean forests growing together with evergreen pines. Korean oak forests have recently been attacked by ambrosial fungi of the genus Raffaelea and by many other fungal species that are vectored by the beetle Platypus koryoensis. We investigated a full list of the diverse decay fungi as a first step to better understand the association between these fungi and oak trees, as well as considering effective management methods for oak forests in Korea. Through examination of specimens deposited in the Seoul National University Fungus Collection (SFC) and the National Institute of Biological Resources (NIBR), 523 decay fungi (104 species) associated with oak trees were identified and a full list is provided.
This study was carried out to classify the arthropods inhabited in pine mushroom (Tricholoma matsutake Singer). The arthropods were collected in a state forest (196 compartment, 157ha) located in Yangyang-gun, Kangwon-do. After collection the arthropods were classified in laboratory. The results obtained are summarized as follow; 1. Insects inhabited in pine mushroom are in total 19 Families of 7 Orders. Some animals in Araneina, Acarina, Nematoda and Stylommatophora were also observed, 2. The most injurious pests are Gyrophaena niponensis, Elateridae, Deosophilidae and Philomycidae (Stylommatophora). 3. The most dominant species is Gyrophaena niponensis (Staphylinidae, Coleoptera). 4. Some possible natural enemies are Oxyporus germanus, Sphedanolestes impressicollis, Phoridae, Carabidae, Pteromalidae, Eulophidae and Araneina.

Phytophagous insects were surveyed for biological control of weeds in the southern part of korea from April 20 to July 31, 1987. Phytophagous coleopteran insects representing 12 families, 52 genera and 61 species, hemipteran insects 7 families, 18 genera and 20 species, homopteran insects 4 families, 16 genera and 21 species, hymenopteran insects 2 families, 2 genera and 3 species, and orthopteran 2 familes, 6 genera and 6 species were recorded from 58 weeds. Some chrysomelids and orthopteran insects were potential agents for biological control of weeds.
This study was carrid out to investigate the distribution of forest insect pests in Junsanri-gol, Daewonsa-gol, and Georim-gol of Mt. Jiri. A total of 140 species of forest insect pests belonging to 44 families under 7 orders were collected in these areas: 59 species 16 families in Lepidoptera, 35 species 9 families in Coleoptera, 33 species 10 families in Homoptera, 4 species 3 families in Hemiptera, 6 species 3 families in Hymenoptera, 1 species of Orthoptera and 2 species of Phasmida. These were 85 species of 36 families under 6 orders in Daewonsa-gol, 67 species of 31 families under 6 orders in Jungsanri-gol and 56 speices of 27 families under 7 orders in Georim-gol.
Two species of the genus Palorus Mulsant of Palorini (Tenebrionidae) are reported for the first time from Korea, P. ratzeburgii (Wissman, 1848) and P. subdepressus (Wollaston, 1864). These species are economically importance as stored product insect pests in the tropical and subtropical countries, and occur in low densities in the rice mills of southern Korea. Adult morphology, taxonomic diagnosis, illustrations of diagnostic characteristics of these species, and a taxonomic key to the 6 species related to plant quarantine inspections in Korea are provided.
Most species were occured at the low altitude in June and at the high altitude in August. And then, in September, they occurred abundantly at the low sites as the same case in June. The trends in population density of 4 species of Pterostichus from Mt. T$\breve{o}$gyusan, S. Korea, were revealed various tendencies of fluctuation. Generally most species showed the seasonal prevelance in some extent of degree as their characteristic appearance.
The subgenus Pronocerodes Plavilstshikov (Coleoptera: Cerambycidae: Cerambycinae) is reported from Korea for the first time with a species of Ropalopus (Pronocerodes) aurantiicollis Plavilstshikov, 1940. The morphological information is provided with a key to the Korean Ropalopus and photographs of an adult specimen.
