Digital tourism is the digital support of the tourist experience before, during and after the tourist activity[1]. The GPS-enabled mobile phones provide location-based mobile applications such as tour guide and storytelling services. In this paper, we propose the smart tour guide service platform based on GIS and develop the mobile application to provide the smart tour guide service. The proposed smart tour guide service platform consists of CMS, the multi-modal navigation system, the tour attraction content creation and management system, the tour commodity creation and management system, the smart search system, and the user terminal. The smart tour guide application supports digital tourism in the pre-tour, during tour, and post-tour using the proposed smart tour guide service platform in the popular tourist attractions in Jeju.

The purpose of this study is to produce digital elevation model (DEM) in the Jebu tidal flat, one of the west coast of the Korean Peninsula, by means of photogrammetric techniques from aerial digital stereo-images. Produced DEM would be become the fundamental data for change detection of the sediment and erosion. To do so, epipolar line is established by relative orientation. Area-based matching is then carried out based on this line and matching size according to surface property of tidal flat after a classified image is produced from reflectance and texture of the surface. As the results, DEM generated by the proposed method showed subtle changes in height more precisely than DEM using the fixed matching size and DEM by the commercial S/W in the region, such as tidal flats having few level differences.

Lately, airborne digital camera and airborne laser scanner in field of airborne surveying is used to build geography information such as DEM generation and terrain analysis. In this study, 3D position accuracy is compared medium format CCD camera RCD105 with high resolution airborne digital camera DMC. For this, test area was decided for aerial photograph and ground control points was selected in 1/1,000 scale digital map. In Result, Root Mean Square Error(RMSE) was analyzed between RCD105 and DMC after aerial triangulation.
The wide spread of the Internet service has brought in web GIS development. But, there are problems of the user access latencies, the network traffic, and the server overload in Internet Geographic Information System because spatial data are transferred in large volumes. In this paper, I propose a cache algorithm on client side to solve the above problems. The proposed algorithm demonstrates the performance improvement over known studies by utilizing unit time and spatial proximity. In addition, this paper conducts a performance evaluation to measure the improvement in algorithm efficiency and analyzes the results of the performance evaluation. When spatial data queries are conducted, according to our performance evaluation, hit rate has been improved over the existing algorithms.

Update of road facilities database such as road sign, traffic lights, and street lights is interesting business in a local government. Recently, existing road facilities database, aerial photo and topographic map are referred for the installation and complement of road facilities. But it is difficult to comprehend road facilities' condition and additional expenses may appear in field survey. Therefore, it is necessary to establish and update road facility DB and many studies has been carried out to efficiently collect road related spatial data. In this study, the establishment of various complicated road facility DB was conducted by images that had been obtained by digital camera with a built-in bluetooth and DGPS. Results showed that road facility DB was constructed effectively and suggested the possibility of road facility management using images based on coordinate through accuracy analyses using total-station surveying. And using digital camera and DGPS is expected to effective real-time update and management of road facility DB.
The innovation of information and communication technology has brought the emergence of the digital economy in which the growing importance of the Internet for the production and consumption of information has caused a rapid increase of commercial domains. Domains are basic form of Internet address for the delivery of information, but the location of registered commercial domains is not free from a spatial context. Utilizing a database of commercial domain registrations, spatial statistical methods and GIS, the spatial dimensions of the commercial domains are explored for the city of Seoul. Through this research, it was found that the commercial domains were unevenly distributed, namely 44% of commercial domains are located at 3 Gus in Seoul. The locations of commercial domains by themselves represented a strong spatial autocorrelation among adjacent places. In order to identify factors affecting spatial variation in the development of the commercial domains among Dongs, a conditional spatial autoregressive model which effectively eliminates a spatial autocorrelation was used. As a result of this research, it is clearly shown that the selective location of firms having commercial domains and their role in economic activities are influencing the spatial structure of urban with dynamic mix of spatial characteristic.

Electronics cultural atlas is a typical methodology for the Digital Humanities. Since electronic cultural atlas could visualize various cultural information based on electronic atlas, that is an information visualization, users are able to make intuitive understanding on specific areas. Therefore, it can be effectively utilized in Area Studies and also helps users to understand comprehensively information on historic event in particular area with time information, because electronic cultural atlas represents a particular subject and time information with geographical information based on map. In other words, electronic cultural atlas may be considered as a specialized system of Digital Humanities for studying the Humanities and Area Studies. In this paper, we design and implement mediterranean electronic cultural atlas(MECA) for researchers of the Mediterranean area that has cultural hybridity formed the exchange of various aspects such as civilization, religion, race and language. In detail, a 'Digital Humanities Research Support System' is constructed to visualize research outcomes related to the Mediterranean area on Electronic Cultural Atlas and to use for researches.

Public policy responses to the digital/information revolution and the micro-economic reforms that it facilitates have inspired exploration of the scope for local government implementation of digital spatial data handling(DSDH) of information relating to, among other things, asset inventory, environmental and utility management, address management, and planning. The results from these explorations are such that few doubt the value of bringing the public policies to practice, but diffusion rate and pattern of the approaches demonstrated by the scoping experiments will reflect institutional/cultural matters, indicators of the relative significance of which might be at least partly predicted from appraisal of case studies. This argument is exemplified by reference to case studies in adoption of DSDH by local government organizations in Korea and in Australia.
The Universal Soil Loss Equation (USLE) has been widely used to predict long-term soil loss by incorporating several erosion factors, such as rainfall, soil, topography, and vegetation. This study is aimed to introduce the LISLE within geographic information system(GIS) environment. The Kwangneung Experimental Forest located in Kyongki Province was selected for the study area. Initially, twelve years of hourly rainfall records that were collected from 1982 to 1993 were processed to obtain the rainfall factor(R) value for the LISLE calculation. Soil survey map and topographic map of the study area were digitized and subsequent input values(K, L, S factors) were derived. The cover type and management factor (C) values were obtained from the classification of Landsat Thematic Mapper(CM) satellite imagery. All these input values were geographically registered over a common map coordinate with $25{\times}25m^2$ ground resolution. The USLE was calculated for every grid location by selecting necessary input values from the digital base maps. Once the LISLE was calculated, the resultant soil loss values(A) were represented by both numerical values and map format. Using GIS to run the LISLE, it is possible to pent out the exact locations where soil loss potential is high. In addition, this approach can be a very effective tool to monitor possible soil loss hazard under the situations of forest changes, such as conversion of forest lands to other uses, forest road construction, timber harvesting, and forest damages caused by fire, insect, and diseases.
