  • This paper presents the basic data for the strength behavior of longitudinally profiled plates(LP plate). The effects of loading conditions, thickness and slenderness ratio of plates are examined by using FEM analysis. The analysis results shown that the strength behavior of LP plate is varied with the loading conditions. The major causes of the reduction in strength are the distribution of deflection and the slenderness ratio of plate. Based on the results, this paper presents some discussions about the strength evaluation of LP plate with considering the equivalent thickness.

  • The importance of understanding the response of structural composites to impact and CAI cannot be overstated to develop analytical models for impact damage and CAI strength predictions. This paper presents experimental findings observed from quasi-static lateral load tests, low velocity impact tests. CAI strength and open hole compressive strength tests using 3 mm thick composite plates($[45/-45/0/90]_{3s}$- IM7/8552). The conclusion is drawn that damage areas for both quasi-static lateral load and impact tests are similar and the curves of several drop weight impacts with varying energy levels(between 5.4 J and 18.7 J) follow the static curve well. In addition, at a given energy the peak force is in good agreement between the static and impact cases. It is identified that the failure behaviour of the specimens from the CAI strength tests was very similar to that observed in laminated plates with open holes under compression loading. The residual strengths art: in good agreement with the measured open hole compressive strengths. considering the impact damage site area, an equivalent hole. The experimental findings suggest that simple analytical models for the prediction of impact damage area and CAI strength can be developed on the basis of the failure mechanism observed from the experimental tests.

  • In the previous experimental study, it is verified that the ultimate strain of concrete (${\varepsilon}$$_{cu}$=0.003) and coefficient of equivalent stress block (${\beta}$$_1$) can be used for the analysis of RC beams under biaxial and uniaxial bending moment. However, the characteristics of stress distribution of non rectangular compressed area in the RC columns are different to those of rectangular compressed area. The properties of compressive stress distribution of concrete have minor effect on the pure bending moment such as beams, but for the columns subjected to combined axial load and biaxial bending moment, the properties of compressive stress distribution are influencing factors. Nevertheless, in ACI 318-99 code, the design tables for columns subjected to axial loads with bidirectional eccentricities are based on the parameters recommended for rectangular stress block(RSB) of rectangular compressed areas. In this study the characteristics of stress distribution through both angle and depth of neutral axis are observed and formulated rationally. And the modified parameters of rectangular stress block(MRSB) for non rectangular compressed area is proposed. And the computer program using MRSB for the biaxial bending analysis of RC columns is developed and the results of MRSB are compared to RSB and experimental results respectively.

  • The current design practice of an electric transmission tower is based on the allowable stress design. Design strengths of the electric transmission tower's compression member are determined by buckling the strength of the member itself without considering joint strength. There is a possibility of a joint failure prior to the buckling of a member. Therefore, in this study, joint strength is calculated for various member forces, and the shape of joint and database of strength were established. These data was compared with the member strength obtained from previous research studies based on an equivalent nonlinear analysis technique. Finally, practical evaluation and design method to distinguish failure mode in an electric transmission tower member is proposed.

  • Compression stress block used to concrete structure design substitutes equivalent triangle, rectangle, trapezoid and parabola-rectangle stress block for actual concrete stress distribution. Its shape is different in design code of the major advanced countries. It reflects the material feature of each of country. Presently, compression stress block of korea concrete design code is equal to it of ACI code that doesn't reflect the material feature of the high strength concrete. So, many research conclusions showed that it is not reasonable. The study compares concrete stress blocks of the major advanced countries and does an experiment on concrete compression stress block to know the material feature of the concrete in korea. It obtains the operating load and the concrete strain in experiment and draw stress block parameters. It compares stress block parameters applied to design code with those by the experiment conclusion. In addition, It compares and analyses nominal axial force-moment diagram by the stress block of the major advanced countries.

  • In this study, the flexural characteristics of reinforced polymer concrete T-beams strengthened with GFRP, typically used for bridges and parking structures, are investigated. A method to determine the flexural failure mode of reinforced polymer concrete T-beams comprised of compression failure (CF), tension failure (TF), and fiber sheet failure (FF) for different levels of GFRP strengthening is proposed. Moreover, the present study provides a formula to calculate the design flexural strength for each failure mode. In reinforced polymer concrete T-beams strengthened with GFRP, an ideal failure mode can be achieved when the failure occurs in the following order: 1) yield of steel reinforcement, 2) failure of GFRP, and 3) compression failure of concrete. In the case of FF mode, due to GFRP failure before the polymer concrete crushing in compression region, a concept of equivalent rectangular block based on the ultimate limit state of concrete should not be used. Thus, this study suggests an idealized stress-strain curve for polymer concrete and finds parameters for stress block, ${\alpha}$ and ${\beta}$ based on the strain distribution in polymer concrete. Furthermore, the present study suggests an aspect ratio of 2.5 by examining the compressive stress distribution and design flexural strength characteristics for different aspect ratio of T-beams. This study also provides a design flexural strength formula, and validates its acceptability based on experiment and theoretical analysis.

  • This study presents an estimation of the strength development of concrete considering the equivalent age using fine particle cement (FC), which is manufactured according to the classification process. Contents and W/B were considered as experimental parameters. The strength considering the equivalent age is gradually increased, and the deviation of the strength according to W/C is increased with decrease of W/C in accordance with the replacement of the fine particle cement. For estimating the apparent activation energy (Ea) considering setting time and blame fineness of cement, Ea of the FC based on setting time is calculated with $27.6{\sim}28.9$ KJ/mol, which is somewhat similar to that of OPC, while by applying Ea based on blame fineness, Ea is increased with increase of FC contents, and is calculated with $40{\sim}56$ KJ/mol. Good agreement is obtained by applying Ea based on setting time, while there was remarkable variation between calculated value and measured value when Ea based on blame fineness. Therefore, it is necessary to add influencing factors in existing Ea to enhance the accuracy of the estimation.

  • A numerical model that can simulate the nonlinear behavior of ultra high strength fiber reinforced concrete (UHSFRC) structures subjected to monotonic loading is introduced. The material properties of UHSFRC, such as compressive and tensile strength or elastic modulus, are different from normal strength reinforced concrete. The uniaxial compressive stress-strain relationship of UHSFRC is designed on the basis of experimental result, and the equivalent uniaxial stress-strain relationship is introduced for proper estimation of UHSFRC structures. The steel is uniformly distributed over the concrete matrix with particular orientation angle. In advance, this paper introduces a numerical model that can simulate the tension-stiffening behavior of tension part of the axial member on the basis of the bond-slip relationship. The reaction of steel fiber is considered for the numerical model after cracks of the concrete matrix with steel fibers are formed. Finally, the introduced numerical model is validated by comparison with test results for idealized UHSFRC beams.
