Probabilistic Assessment of Drought Characteristics based on Homogeneous Hidden Markov Model (동질성 은닉 마코프 모형을 적용한 가뭄특성의 확률론적 평가)

  • Several studies regarding drought indices and criteria have been widely studied in the literature. If one defines the onset, severity, and end of droughts, in general, a certain threshold needs to be set to assess the drought events. However, the uncertainty associated with the threshold is a critical problem in drought analysis. To take full advantage of the inherent features in the rainfall series, a Hidden Markov Model (HMM) based probabilistic drought analysis was proposed rather than using the existing threshold based analysis. As a result, the proposed HMM based probabilistic drought analysis scheme shows better performance in terms of defining drought state and understanding underlying characteristics of the drought. In addition, the HMM based approach is capable of quantifying the uncertainties associated with the classifying meteorological drought condition in a systematic way.

Development of Shock Wave Delay Estimation Model for Mixed Traffic at Unsaturated Signalized Intersection (충격파를 이용한 신호교차로 지체산정 모형 개발 (비포화 2차로 신호교차로 상에서의 버스혼합교통류 지체산정모형))

  • Controlled traffic intersection is critical point in terms of transportation network performance, where the most of traffic congestion arises. One of the most important and favorable measure of effectiveness in the signal controlled intersection is approach delay. Although lots of efforts to develop traffic delay estimation models have been made throughout the years, most of them were focusing on homogeneous traffic flow. The purpose of this research is to develop a traffic delay estimation model for traffic flow mixed with bus based on the horizontal shockwave theory. Traffic simulation is performed to test the adaptation level of the model in generic environment. The result shows that the delay increases with increasing bus traffic. Overall model accuracy comparing simulation result is acceptable, that shows the error range around 10 percent.

A Study on Validity of the Korean Version of the Assessment of Life Habits (LIFE-H 1.0) in Children (아동용 참여평가도구 한글판 Life Habits Assessment(LIFE-H 1.0)의 타당도 연구)

  • Objective: It is important to assess the participation and understand the characteristics of participation for setting goal of the child's treatment and strengthening participation. In this study, we verified the validity of the LIFE-H 1.0, so that domestic occupational therapists can systematically evaluate children's participation. Methods: This study was conducted for about 2 months from February to April 2016 in 47 children with disabilities and non-disabled children. We divided the children into two groups aged 0-4 years and 5-13 years old and conducted a self-report questionnaire to parents. The collected data were verified by SPSS(Statistical Package for Social Science) statistical analysis program. Results: There was no difference between the two groups in general characteristics. In comparison of two groups, a significant difference(p<.05) was found in the LIFE-H 1.0 total performance and satisfaction score and the high discriminant validity was verified. Conclusion: The ultimate goal of occupational therapy is to increase participation. Therefore, the occupational therapist must be able to assess the level of participation and than set the goal of intervention. This study confirms the high level of validity and expects that Korean version of LIFE-H 1.0 will be widely used in clinical field and research.

Maximum Areal Rainfall of Korea in the 20th Century (20세기 우리나라 관측최대강수량의 특성)

  • Mainly, observed maximum rainfall has been evaluated by point rainfall, but actually it should be considered by means of average areal rainfall. Average areal rainfall is an estimated value computed through DAD(rainfall Depth-Area-Duration) analysis. By using this value, an average and maximum areal rainfall according to area-duration relationship could be computed. In this study, we assume that the whole Korea region is hydrologically homogeneous, and then analyze using the storm-centered DAD(moving-area DAD) method for the past century data. From this analysis, we evaluate the yearly variation of observed maximum areal rainfall through area-duration relationship. And we also construct an IDF(rainfall Intensity-Duration-Frequency) curve by using the annual time series data which is composed of maximum areal rainfall. The characteristics of IDF and observed maximum areal rainfall is also evaluated.

An Image Contrast Enhancement Method based on Pyramid Fusion Using BBWE and MHMD (BBWE와 MHMD를 이용한 피라미드 융합 기반의 영상의 대조 개선 기법)

  • The contrast enhancement techniques based on Laplacian pyramid image fusion have a benefit that they can faithfully describe the image information because they combine the multiple resource images by selecting the desired pixel in each image. However, they also have some problem that the output image may contain noise, because the methods evaluate the visual information on the basis of each pixel. In this paper, an improved contrast enhancement method, which effectively suppresses the noise, using image fusion is proposed. The proposed method combines the resource images by making Laplacian pyramids generated from weight maps, which are produced by measuring the difference between the block-based local well exposedness and local homogeneity for each resource image. We showed the proposed method could produce less noisy images compared to the conventional techniques in the test for various images.

  • We propose a statistical test for the nonlinear combiner logics which are usually combined with two maximal Linear Feedback Shift Registers and generate pseudorandom bit sequences. This test uses the mutual information between the output and set of inputs which will be a random variable and its distribution is obeyed to an approximate $\{chi}^2$ -distribution. We adopt this statistic to a $\{chi}^2$ -test of independence by using contingency table. We also apply a proposed test to some non-linear crptosystems and show that this useful to evaluate the strength of the cryptosystems.

  • Market Segmentation for Freight Transportation has been used to know the strategies both efficiency of freight transportation market and attraction of freight volume for carriers. It was so difficult to understand the individual preference of shippers that all shippers could be only homogenized through market segmentation. In Korea. standard Industrial classification has been used for freight market segmentation. This study evaluated another new market segmentation method for manufacturing industry. From the study, we knew that the best relevant market segmentation criterion was annual input-output volume, which showed excellent segmenting ability. Also. the results showed many differences against segmentation results according to standard industrial classification. This study had a meaning as a new trial which segmented freight transportation market using company size and shipment characteristic data.

  • In this paper, we propose a new connection admission control(CAC) algorithm for traffic control in ATM network in which traffic estimation is performed based on user-specified parameters at every moment of connection request or connection release by recursive formula which makes real-time calculation possible. And traffic estimation using cell flow measurement is carried out when the number of connectioned calls does not change during a measurement reflection period. Performance analysis of the proposed method is carried out using several aspects for homogeneous and heterogeneous bursty traffic. The results showed that the proposed CAC method revealed better performance, than conventional CAC method for burst model in both utilization and QoS point of view.

  • 최근 촬영 기기의 기술발전으로 인해 디지털 영상의 해상도가 증가함에 따라 선명한 디지털 영상에 대한 요구가 증가하고 있다. 이러한 요구에도 불구하고 디지털 영상 내 가우시안 잡음 (gaussian noise)은 촬영기기를 통해 영상 획득 및 처리 과정에서 발생하여 화질을 열화 시킨다. 디지털 이미지에서 발생하는 가우시안 잡음을 제거하기 위해서 기존의 저대역 통과 필터 (low-pass filter: LPF)를 사용하면 잡음은 제거되지만, 블러링 현상 (blurring phenomenon)이 나타난다. 이러한 문제점을 개선하기 위해 소벨 연산자 (sobel operator)를 사용하여 영상 내 에지 맵 (edge-map)을 생성하여 에지 영역과 동질 영역을 구분한다. 에지영역에서는 약한 저역 필터 (weak low-pass filter)를 사용하고, 그 외의 이미지 영역에서는 강한 저역 필터 (strong low-pass filter)를 사용하는 알고리듬을 제안하였다. 그리고 다양한 이미지에 대하여 기존 알고리듬과 제안한 알고리듬의 적용한 결과를 통해 주관적 화질 비교하였고 객관적 지표로 최대 신호 대 잡음비 (peak signal-to noise ratio: PSNR)와 구조 유사성 (structural similarity: SSIM)을 사용하여 성능을 평가하였다. 실험결과를 통해 제안된 알고리듬이 잡음 제거 및 외곽선 보존의 우수함을 확인하였다.

Uncertainty Assessment of Regional Frequency Analysis for Generalized Logistic Distribution (Generalized Logistic 분포형을 이용한 지역빈도해석의 불확실성 추정)

  • Confidence intervals of growth curves are calculated to assess the uncertainty of index flood method as a regional frequency analysis. The asymptotic variance of quantile estimator for the generalized logistic distribution is introduced to evaluate confidence intervals. In addition, the variances of at-site frequency estimator and regional frequency estimator are used to evaluate an efficiency index. The efficiency indexes for 14 homogeneous regions based on 378 stations show that index flood method estimators are more efficient than at-site frequency estimators. It is shown that the number of sites in a region needs to be limited for regional gain.
