  • Grid technology requires use of geographically distributed resources from multiple domains. Resource monitoring services or tools consisting sensors or agents will run on many systems to find static resource information (such as architecture vendor, OS name and version, MIPS rate, memory size, CPU capacity, disk size, and NIC information) and dynamic resource information (CPU usage, network usage(bandwidth, latency), memory usage, etc.). Thus monitoring itself may cause system overhead. This paper proposes the optimal monitoring interval to reduce the cost of monitoring services and the dynamic monitoring interval to measure monitoring events accurately. By employing two features, we find out unnecessary system overhead is significantly reduced and accuracy of events is still acquired.

  • The dynamic characteristics of the GMR filter composed of dual-period gratings are explored. Gratings consisting of several gloves and slits that generate reflection and transmission properties within each period are considered. It is found that the proposed composite grating can be designed to enhance as well as offset the diffraction orders of TE and TM modes depending on the number of dual-period grating. In order to derive the general characteristics of diffraction power, numerical analysis is performed by applying the modal transmission-line theory based on eigenvalue problem. As a result of the numerical analysis, it is confirmed that a simple and effective GMR filter can be implemented by selectively manipulating the resonance mode of the composite structure, which is useful for designing NIR broad-band filter, emitter and absorber.

  • This paper develops a dynamic travel time prediction model for ATIS in a national highway. While there have been many research on travel time prediction, none of them is for national highway in Korea. The study uses AVI data installed on the national highway No.1 with 10km interval for travel time prediction model, and probe vehicle data for evaluating the model. The study area has many access points, so there are many outlying observations in the raw AVI data. Therefore, this study uses the algorithm proposed by the author for removing the outliers, and then Kalman filtering algorithm is applied for the travel time prediction. The prediction model is performed for 5, 10, 15 and 30 minute-aggregating interval and the results are $0.061{\sim}0.066$ for 5, 10 and 15 interval and 0.078 for 30 minute one with a little low performance as MAREs.

  • Recently, various ways are being explored for enhancing the fun of computer games and lengthening the life cycle of them. This paper proposes the more active game environment by reflecting the decision that is made by collecting and analyzing user's behavioral data. The game results and traveling information of user is using for dynamic map creation. For experiment of the proposed method, we created games using the XNA Framework and confirmed the game environment which changing properly according to the user's game play.

  • In this study, dynamic response of a vertical shaft subjected to seismic loads was evaluated by three-dimensional Finite Element (FE) approach. The emphasis was on quantifying the ground conditions, input motions and direction of motions. A series of parametric analyses were carried out. From the results of FE analysis, more than 1.7 times increase in shear force and bending moment is obtained when the stiff layer was thinker than the soft layer. And all of the maximum values were occurred near the interface between the soil layers. The dynamic behavior of vertical shaft was significantly influenced by the different frequencies of the input motion, and normalized acceleration of surrounding soil was 3 times larger than vertical shaft.

  • It is important in design of vertical pumps to consider external excitation in addition to rotor vibration due to unbalance. In this study, a model of a vertical pump was developed for the analysis of its dynamic response. The vertical pump was modeled with lumped masses and springs which represent multi-cylindrical and rotor structure. A dynamic simulation program was developed and numerical calculation on the above mentioned problems were carried out.

  • Site coefficient and amplification factor of current domestic Seismic Design Code (KBC-2009) have no consideration for the domestic ground condition in which the base rock is normally placed within 30m form the surface. Accordingly, in this study dynamic centrifugal test and analysis for pile foundation into sand and upper structure were achieved. and the response spectrums of free surface and basement were compared with each other. Within the period 1 sec., the measured spectral acceleration of free surface and basement was bigger than the design spectral acceleration of SC and SD site. However the measured spectral acceleration of free surface and basement for the period over 1.5 sec. was smaller than the design spectral acceleration of SC site. There was no severe difference of spectral acceleration according to the upper structure, embedded depth of foundation and free surface conditions. Consequently, normal domestic apartment housing for the period range over 1.5sec. could be design more economically applying these test result.

  • To provide on-demand video streaming services through the network, video objects with both high and low client request rates should be served efficiently. In this paper, we propose a dynamic on-demand streaming approach for providing services efficiently regardless of the client request rate. This approach can maintain QoS by transitioning the service scheme according to the request rate. The server provides services by the Heuristic broadcasting approach when the client request rate is low and by Striping broadcast, one of many Periodic broadcast approaches, when the client request rate is high. The server knows the variations of client request rates by the number of service channels and decides the transition to more efficient service schemes on its own. We simulated this scheme transition with various client request intervals and traces from a company providing streaming services. The results show that the performance of our approach is reasonable.

  • Recently, high-speed railway systems have gained increased interest as a means of environmental friendly transportation, and numerous bridges for high-speed railways have been constructed accordingly. However, bridge design for high-speed railways requires more consideration than conventional railway design because fast-moving trains will lead to significant impact on bridge structures. Thus, this research proposes a revised design considering both bridge-rail longitudinal interaction and dynamic effect of trains to ensure stability of fast travelling trains. To validate the proposed design algorithm, numerical analyses are performed and compared using a constructed 250 m long bridge with 5 spans for a high-speed railway. From the numerical results, the proposed optimum design of high-speed railway bridges exhibits the most economic life-cycle-cost (LCC) when compared with several existing design approaches.
