  • The current analytical techniques for R/C elements under severe dynamic repeated loads, like earth¬quake or impact, have two major problems; one is that the effects of strain rate are not considered and the other one is the current analytical model was developed based on flexural behavior only. This study develops computer software that can idealize the flexural and shear behavior of R/C elements using several parameters and also can consider the effects of strain rate. The analytical results using the developed technique were compared with serveral experimental results and they were generally satisfied.

  • For the improvement of a conventional railway speed, tilting train(Tilting Train express) is under the development aiming for a maximum speed 180km/h. Compared to the existing conventional rolling-stock, tilting train could take an advantage of speed improvement about $20{\sim}30%$ on curve sections due to the improvement of cowing performance. However, this speed increasement creates a severe load at wheels, thus it is necessary to study the safety of wheel for tilting train preferentially. On the other hand, it is under consideration that the wheel for conventional railway rolling-stock at speeds of 150km/h will be applied to tilting train at speeds of 180km/h. In this paper, we have studied the strength of wheel structure, the geometrical contact characteristics, and the dynamic performance of wheel to evaluate the safety of wheel for tilting train.

  • A spacer grid is one of the most important structural components in a LWR nuclear fuel assembly. The primary considerations are to provide a Zircaloy spacer grid with crush strength sufficient to resist design basis loads, without significantly increasing pressure drop across the reactor core. In this study, the dynamic crush strength analysis and test are carried out for the specimens of a spacer grid assembly.

  • Polymer concrete is expected to be widely used as a building material because it has a shorter hardening time and excellent compression, tensile, bending, bond strength, frictional resistance and abrasion loss compared to general concrete. The polymer concrete has excellent vibration damping performance and research on the use of various reinforcing materials is being conducted. However, in order to completely replace the general concrete and the general anti-vibration reinforcement, such polymer concrete requires an overall review of vibration reduction performance considering physical properties, dynamic properties, productivity and field applicability. In this study, the physical and dynamic properties of polymer concrete by epoxy mixing ratio were compared with those of general concrete. It was appeared that compression, tensile, bending and bond strengths of polymer concrete by epoxy mixing were significantly higher than those of general concrete. Especially, the tensile strength was more than 4 ~ 6.5 times. Based on the basic physical properties of polymer concrete, the damping ratio, which is a dynamic characteristic according to the epoxy mixing ratio, was derived through analytical models and experiments. As a result, the dynamic stiffness of polymer concrete was 20% higher than that of general concrete and the loss rate was about 3 times higher.

  • In this study, eco-friendly hybrid composite boards were manufactured from green tea and wood fibers for application as interior materials with various functionalities of green tea and strong strength properties of wood fibers. In this relation, the effect of green tea content on dynamic MOEs (modulus of elasticity) of these green tea and wood fibers composite boards were investigated. The dynamic MOEs of hybrid composite boards were lower than those of control boards without green tea, and the values decreased with the increase of green tea content. Also, the dynamic MOEs appeared to be somewhat different by resin type used for board manufacture. The hybrid composite boards manufactured from $E_1$ grade urea resin, which has higher molar ratio of formaldehyde to urea than that of $E_0$ grade one, were 1.06~1.54 times higher than that manufactured from $E_0$ grade. And, the differences between hybrid composite boards manufactured from both adhesive increased with the increase of green tea content. On the other hand, high correlations were found between dynamic MOE and static bending strength performances, it was concluded that static bending strength performances could be estimated from the dynamic MOE, except for a few hybrid board types with large variations.

  • Undrained cyclic triaxial tests were performed on silt contained in the sand in order to investigate the effect of silt contents on the liquefaction strength and shear characterist ifs of the sand. As the result of this experiment, the weakest percentage of silt contained in the sand was 30% for all the relative density considered in the test. Also, the same bests were performed to find the effect of cyclic speed applied ranging from 0.1Hz to 5Hz on the liquefaction strength. The more the silt is contained in the sand, the greater the liquefaction strength was affected by cyclic speed, While the silt -containing sand was far less influenced by the cyclic speed than clay containing sand. These results are believed to be caused by the change of pore water pressure of the effective stress path.

  • An enhanced version of the Roufaiel and Meyer model is developed for the simulation of the hysteretic response of reinforced concrete members. This model takes into account the finite size of plastic regions and considers the effects of stiffness degradation, strength deterioration, shear and axial force. A significant improvement is the way in which strength deterioration is simulated during inelastic cyclic loadings. The accuracy of this model has been demonstrated by analytically reproducing numerous laboratory experimental load-deformation curves.
