The ovaries from Hanwoo and Holstein were collected from labattoir and transferred to laboratory. Oocytes were aspirated and incubated in $CO_2$ incubator for 24 hours for maturation. Oocytes were coincubated with the sperms for 5 hours. Cleaved oocytes were selected 48 hours after coincubation and half of the medium was changed newly every 48 hour until blastocyst formation. Cleavage rate and blastocyst rate were investigated according to different breeds and different status of cumulus cells surrounding the oocytes. Blastocysts were either transferred to the recipients or frozen until use. The result of embryo transfer with fresh or frozen embryos was investigated. The rate of male offspring following embryo transfer was also investigated. The rate of cleavage was $66.4\%$ for Hanwoo and $62.4\%$ for Holstein oocytes. The rate of cleavage according to status of oocyte was shown highest in the oocytes completely surrounded with cumulus cells and lowest in denuded oocytes for both Hanwoo and Holstein oocytes. The rate of blastocyst from cleaved oocytes was $40.6\%$ for Hanwoo and $36.9\%$ for Holstein. The rate of pregnancy/delivery following embryo transfer with fresh IVF embryos was $57.2\%$ for Hanwoo and $53.3\%$ for Holstein. The rate of pregnancy/delivery following embryo transfer with frozen IVF embryos was $40.9\%$ for Hanwoo and $36.4\%$ for Holstein. The rate of male calf produced by embryo transfer was $63.6\%$ for Hanwoo and $50.0\%$ for Holstein.

Purpose : To find the risk factors associated with coronory artery lesions, non-responsiveness to intravenous immunoglobulin(IVIG) treatment, and recurrences in Kawasaki disease patients. Methods : We retrospectively analyzed 1,000 Kawasaki disease patients who were admitted to Yonsei University Medical Center from September 1990 to December 2003. We compared between responder and non-responder groups to IVIG treatment as well as between relapsed and non-relapsed groups, and as to the relapsed group, we also compared variables between patients in their first and second attack states. Finally, factors associated with longer-fever duration from disease onset were evaluated. Results : Longer fever durations before and after IVIG treatment, male sex, lower Hgb and Hct level, higher WBC count and segmented WBC proportion, and higher CRP and Harada's score were related with coronary artery lesions. Non-responsiveness was related to higher WBC count, segmented WBC proportion, CRP, SGPT, Harada's score, and pyuria. Moderate-to-severe coronary artery dilatations and recurrences were more commonly seen among the non-responder group. No significant predictive factors for recurrence were found. In the relapsed group, lower WBC count, CRP, and shorter fever duration from disease onset were observed in their second attack state. Fever duration from disease onset showed positive correlation with WBC count, CRP, and Harada's score and negative correlation with Hgb levels. Conclusion : Higher WBC count, CRP, and higher Harada's score were related to both higher incidences of coronary artery lesions and non-responsiveness to IVIG treatment, and these factors were also related with longer fever duration. Non-responders to IVIG treatment showed higher recurrence rate and more moderate-to-severe coronary artery dilatations than responders.

This study aims to examine the history of naming the strait between the Yellow and East China Seas and the East Sea to suggest a consistent nomenclature and to demarcate the geographic region of the strait. Although the strait is internationally known as 'Korea Strait', it is commonly referred to as the 'South Sea' in Korean common usage. This review ultimately recommends the use of 'Korea Strait' as an appropriate geographical name for this area. To support this recommendation, the historical boundaries typically assigned to the Korea Strait were investigated. We also analyzed the evolution of geographical labels assigned to Korea Strait and to the Western and Eastern Channels (labels given to the two maritime areas surrounding Tsushima). Resources for this analysis included historic maps and charts, International Hydrographic Organization Special Publications (S-23), and maps published in the Ocean Science Journal (OSJ) and Journal of Oceanography (JO), which are two international journals representing Korean and Japanese sources, respectively, from 2005 to 2021. In these two international journals, the most frequently used names assigned to the strait of interest were Korea Strait (appearing 42.9% of OSJ maps, and 7.5% of JO maps), and Tsushima Strait (appearing 60.4% of JO maps, and 0% of OSJ maps). Other names were South Sea and Korea Strait/Tsushima Strait. On maps in the two reviewed journals, the boundaries of Korea Strait were defined explicitly or implicitly in five different ways: a broad region between the Yellow and East China Seas and Ulleung Basin (Type 1), the region between Ulleung Basin and Tsushima (Type 2), the western channel of the strait (Type 3-1), the eastern channel of the strait (Type 3-2), and both the western and eastern channels of the strait (Type 4). Overall, Type 1 was the most frequently used boundary, taking up 71.4% of OSJ and 60.4% of JO maps. Lastly, we suggest in this paper that the current flowing through Korea Strait from the East China Sea to the East Sea should be labeled the 'Korea Strait Warm Current' to indicate its full path through the strait. Currently, this current is internationally referred to as the 'Tsushima Warm Current', which does not link well to the commonly used geographic name of the strait.
This simulation study was performed to investigate the accuracy of the estimated breeding value by using genomic information (GEBV) by way of Bayesian framework. Genomic information by way of single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) from a chromosome with length of 100cM were simulated with different marker distance (0.1cM, 0.5cM), heritabilities (0.1, 0.5) and half sibs families (20 heads, 4 heads). For generating the simulated population in which animals were inferred to genomic polymorphism, we assumed that the number of quantitative trait loci (QTL) were equal with the number of no effect markers. The positions of markers and QTLs were located with even and scatter distances, respectively. The accuracies of estimated breeding values by way of indicating correlations between true and estimated breeding values were compared on several cases of marker distances, heritabilities and family sizes. The accuracies of breeding values on animals only having genomic information were 0.87 and 0.81 in marker distances of 0.1cM and 0.5cM, respectively. These accuracies were shown to be influenced by heritabilities (0.87 at $h^2$ =0.10, 0.94 at $h^2$ =0.50). According to half sibs' family size, these accuracies were 0.87 and 0.84 in family size of 20 and 4, respectively. As half sibs family size is high, accuracy of breeding appeared high. Based on the results of this study it is concluded that the amount of marker information, heritability and family size would influence the accuracy of the estimated breeding values in genomic selection methodology for animal breeding.
Objectives: Nasal continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) corrected elevated blood pressure (BP) in some studies of obstructive sleep apnea syndrome (OSAS) but not in others. Such inconsistent results in previous studies might be due to differences in factors influencing the effects of CPAP on BP. The factors referred to include BP monitoring techniques, the characteristics of subjects, and method of CPAP application. Therefore, we evaluated the effects of one night CPAP application on BP and heart rate (HR) reactivity using non-invasive beat-to-beat BP measurement in normotensive and hypertensive subjects with OSAS. Methods: Finger arterial BP and oxygen saturation monitoring with nocturnal polysomnography were performed on 10 OSAS patients (mean age $52.2{\pm}12.4\;years$; 9 males, 1 female; respiratory disturbance index (RDI)>5) for one baseline night and another CPAP night. Beat-to-beat measurement of BP and HR was done with finger arterial BP monitor ($Finapres^{(R)}$) and mean arterial oxygen saturation ($SaO_2$) was also measured at 2-second intervals for both nights. We compared the mean values of cardiovascular and respiratory variables between baseline and CPAP nights using Wilcoxon signed ranks test. Delta ($\Delta$) BP, defined as the subtracted value of CPAP night BP from baseline night BP, was correlated with age, body mass index (BMI), baseline night values of BP, BP variability, HR, HR variability, mean $SaO_2$ and respiratory disturbance index (RDI), and CPAP night values of TWT% (total wake time%) and CPAP pressure, using Spearman's correlation. Results: 1) Although increase of mean $SaO_2$ (p<.01) and decrease of RDI (p<.01) were observed on the CPAP night, there were no significant differences in other variables between two nights. 2) However, delta BP tended to increase or decease depending on BP values of the baseline night and age. Delta systolic BP and baseline systolic BP showed a significant positive correlation (p<.01), but delta diastolic BP and baseline diastolic BP did not show a significant correlation except for a positive correlation in wake stage (p<.01). Delta diastolic BP and age showed a significant negative correlation (p<.05) during all stages except for REM stage, but delta systolic BP and age did not. 3) Delta systolic and diastolic BPs did not significantly correlate with other factors, such as BMI, baseline night values of BP variability, HR, HR variability, mean SaO2 and RDI, and CPAP night values of TWT% and CPAP pressure, except for a positive correlation of delta diastolic pressure and TWT% of CPAP night (p<.01). Conclusions: We observed that systolic BP and diastolic BP tended to decrease, increase or remain still in accordance with the systolic BP level of baseline night and aging. We suggest that BP reactivity by CPAP be dealt with as a complex phenomenon rather than a simple undifferentiated BP decrease.
The Chungpyung Dam is a 16 yearn old rock-fill dam for a Pumped storage hydro-Power plant, located in the middle of the Korean Peninsula. Since the dam is subjected to the daily water level fluctuation, such as rapid drawdown and refill, thus inducing a structural impact on the behavior of dam body, it draws attention of many engineering concerns. Traditionally, steady-state analysis was employed to investigate the seepage in the dam body, but in this study the seepage analysis was numerically performed by 2-D FEM thansient analysis. As a boundary condition for an analysis, the water level fluctuation was incorporated to simulate the daily change. As a res41t, the various seepage phenomena such as hydraulic gradient, seepage vector, and pore water pressure distribution were quantified at the corresponding time of interest as the water level rises and recedes. The seepage flux was also estimated and compared with the measured data which were both acceptable considering design criteria. The result proves that there is no sign of hazardous sources contributing to the possibility of piping, internal erosion and excess leakage through the dam body.
Two-types of carbon fiber, anisotropic- and isotropic- pitch based, were expose to isothermal oxidation in air and $CO_{2}$ gas and the weight change rates was measured by TGA apparatus. Thc oxidation rate was laster in air than in $CO_{2}$ gas, and the oxidation rare of isotropic T- 101s liher was over 23 9 times faster than that of anisotropic HM-60 filler at $600^{\circ}C$ in air. The activation energy was 36-56 Kcal/mole at lower temperature range and 6- 13 Kcal/molc at higher temperature range. It was higher that the transition temperalure 01 reaction zone(zone 1. 2, :i) of 11M-GO fiber than that of T-101s fiber, and it was higher in $CO_{2}$ gas than in air. From SEM observation, it Lvas found that the oxidation of carbon fibers was progressed through the imperfection.

Two-dimensional flexible body analysis (hydroelasticity theory) is adopted to a very large floating structure that may be multimodule and extend in the longitudinal direction. The boundary-element method (BEM) and Green function method(GFM) are used to obtain the hydrodynamic coefficients. The structure is considered to be a flexible beam responding to waves in the vertical direction and a consistent formulation for the hydrostatic stiffness is derived. The resulting coupled equations of motion are solved directly. Two designs of the module connectors are considered: a rotationally-flexible hinge connector, and a rotationally-rigid connector Numerical examples are presented to an integrated system of semi-submersibles. The analysis provides basic motions and section forces, which are useful to develop an understanding of the fundamental modes of displacement and force amplitudes for which multi-module VLFSs must be designed. The results show that while the hinge connectors result in greater motion, the rigid connectors increase substantially the sectional moments.
The complex formation of branched poly(ethylene imine) (BPEI) with bivalent transition metal ions, such as Fe(II), Co(II), Ni(II) and Cu(II), have been investigated in terms of visible absorption and pH titration methods in an aqueous solution in 0.1M KCl at 30${\circ}$. The stability constants for M(II)-BPEI complexes was calculated with the modified Bjerrum method. The formation curves of M(II)-BPEI complexes showed that Fe(II), Co(II), Ni(II) and Cu(II) ions formed coordination compounds with four, two, two, and two ethylene imine group, respectively. In the case of Cu(II)-BPEI complex at pH 3.4 ∼ 3.8, ${\lambda}_{max}$ was shifted to the red region with a decrease in the acidity. The overall stability constants (log $K_2$) increased as the following order, Co(II) < Cu(II) < Ni(II) < Fe(II).

Generally, the events in nature have multi-disciplinary characteristics. To solve this problems, these days loosely coupled methods are widely applied because of advantage of solvers which are already developed and well proved. Those solvers use different mesh system, so transformation and mapping of data are vital in the field of fluid-structure interaction(FSI). In this paper, the interpolation of deformation which is used globally and compactly supported radial basis functions(RBF), and mapping of force which use principle of virtual work are examined for computing time and accuracy to compare ability with simple 3-D problem. As the results, interpolation scheme of compactly supported radial basis functions are useful to interpolation and mapping for large-scale airplane in FSI with a k-dimensional tree(kd-tree) which is a space-partitioning data structure for organizing points in a k-dimensional space.
