While same-sex marriage is officially legal in 28 countries, widespread discrimination continues against people in the LGBTQ community in Confucian Asian countries. This study examines how media exposure affects attitudes towards gay men using the cultivation theory in China, where LGBTQ issues are still censored in media. Moreover, this study looks into the immediate effect of watching gay content on attitudes towards a friend's coming out. Based on the survey of 236 young adults aged 18-22, the study results showed that heavy viewers of gay content and female had a more favorable attitude towards gay men. Furthermore, while the participants favored non-gay content, those who viewed gay content were more supportive of a friend's coming out than those who watched non-gay content. The findings indicated the cultivation effect on attitude towards same-sex relationships in a Confucian Asian country that can be used to foster a more inclusive society.
The term "ya-o-ii" which is referred as a homosexual comics in Korea came from Japan and it became one of popular genres in both Japan and Korea's comics market. People create yo-o-ii with their own idea or borrow male characters from the pre-existed comics or animation and create a whole new story. Homosexual comics which is based on teenage readers deals with sex and focuses on homosexuality. For that reason it reflects social phenomenon than general material for comics. Before we focus on influence of homosexual comics on teenagers and social phenomenon, this study is for fundamental understanding on homosexual comics itself. In order to look into current state of homosexual comics, the survey was conducted at "Comic World" which is well known as the biggest offline comic event in Korea. This study analyzes range of age and awareness of readers of homosexual comics on the basis of the survey. Hopefully, this study helps better understand an influence of homosexual comics on teenage readers with problem of sex identity and contribute to the study of market segmentations of homosexual comics.
The purpose of this study is to investigate the strategy of representation of homosexuality in the mainstream media and its meaning. And it also concerns what would be the limit of representations of homosexuality and what would be the discourse these representations produce in the major terrestrial broadcasting. For this investigation, we conducted the analysis of , the mainstream television drama, focused on the gay couple characters and their representations of conflicts and resolutions by comparing with the two heterosexual couples to figure out the differentiated representation strategies of homosexuality. As results of the analysis, the representation of sociogenic cause of conflict is absent for gay couple while it was found in the case of one heterosexual couple. And gay couple is exposed to the interpersonal conflicts against their family members than heterosexual couples and described as victims. This study was a cross-sectional study done to determine the relevance and impact factors of gender role attitude and self-esteem on attitude toward homosexuality among college students. A survey was conducted 201 college students with self-report questionnaire in one university of Ulsan. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, t-test, ANOVA, Pearson's correlation, and linear multiple regression with SPSS/WIN(21.0). Factors affecting attitude toward homosexuality included gender, former middle${\cdot}$high schools. Attitude toward homosexuality had a negative correlation with gender role attitude. And gender and gender role attitude accounted for 31.0% of the variance in attitude toward homosexuality. The major factors influencing attitude toward homosexuality were gender and gender role attitude. The more males than females and the more traditional gender role attitude were more negative toward homosexuality. Therefore, it is necessary to provide education program and establish a service program according to gender in order to develope and accept healthy identity of college students for the positive view on homosexuality.
This study explored the phenomenon of heterosexual women embracing Boys' Love manga within the heteronormativity context from a feminist psychological perspective. Specifically, the issue of genre characteristics of Boys' Love manga, women's psychological mechanism of reading Boys' Love manga, and the functions and effects of embracing Boys' Love manga were discussed. As a theoretical framework of analysis, I started from the classical psychoanalysis and critically adopted the concepts of the various camps of feminism, queer theory, and Huizinga's Homo Rudens. The results show that Boys' Love manga can be classified as a sub-category of the romance genre, which fulfills heterosexual women's desires of eternal love and equal partnership. From these wish-fulfilling fantasies, heterosexual women attempt to be decontextualized from the heteropatriarchism, to enjoy distancing and voyeuristic separation from the characters in the texts, and to disturb the dichotomous gender system through gender reversal identification. These processes, which can be regarded as a women's play challenging sexual rigorism, ultimately bring about an awareness of the female sexual subjectivity.
This study examined factors associated homophobia among 638 Korean male and female college students nationwide. Study outcome is homophobia and predictors include demographics, sexual permissiveness, sexual behavior, self-esteem, and the interactions between sexual behavior and self-esteem. Study findings indicate that gender, sexual permissiveness, self-esteem were statistically significantly associated with homophobia among Korean college students. The interaction effect between sexual behavior and self-esteem was significantly associated with homophobia although sexual behaviors were not. This study makes a contribution to the growing literature on factors affecting homophobia among Korean college students.
The purpose of this study was to explore early childhood pre-service teachers' belief in homosexuality. This study applied the Q-method to investigate teachers'subjective awareness of homosexuality. Using an open questionnaire, we asked participants to describe how they think about homosexuality. Forty-five pre-service teachers were Q-sampled. Using the QUANL program, 45 statements were classified into 9 levels. Results revealed that image types of early childhood pre-service teachers can be classified into four distinguished categories: 1) type of respect: to regard gays and lesbians as normal people who love the same sex, 2) type of acknowledgment: to regard them as very unique people who attract people's attention, 3) type of relation-denying: to regard them as someone who were born totally differently, and 4) type of extremely denying-to regard them not being respected and disgusting. Most of the teachers seemed to have a tendency to acknowledge and respect individuals'sexual orientation. However, some pre-service teachers still have a negative attitude toward homosexuality. The significance of this study is to reveal the silenced issue, that is, sexual orientation in the field of early childhood multicultural education. Teachers can have a strong effect on young children's belief about sexual identity and sexual orientation. It would be important to look back on educators'perspective on homosexuality before suggesting the direction of multicultural education of young children related to the issue of sexual orientation.

The purpose of this study was to determine the relevance and different factors having an impact on sexual assertiveness and sex stereotypes for the attitude among nursing students toward homosexuality. A survey was conducted on 253 nursing students in D city using a self-report questionnaire. The data was collected from April 11 to April 20, 2019 and it was then analyzed by descriptive statistics, t-tests, ANOVA, Pearson's correlations and multiple regression using SPSS 22.0. The average of sexual assertiveness in the nursing students was $4.44{\pm}0.37$, and the average of sex stereotypes was $2.08{\pm}0.58$, and the average of attitude toward homosexuality was $2.75{\pm}0.37$. The attitude toward homosexuality according to the general characteristics differed among religions (F=13.32, p<.000), religious life (F=20.43, p<.000) and method of parenting (F=2.74, p<.044). There was a statistically significant negative correlation between sexual assertiveness and the attitude toward homosexuality (r=-0.13, p=.034). Also, there was a statistically significant positive correlation between sex stereotypes and the attitude toward homosexuality (r=0.24, p<.000). Religion, religious life and sex stereotypes were the influential factors. Models that included the variables explained 23.1% of the variance for the attitude toward homosexuality. Thus, it is necessary to create an interventional strategy related to nursing student' attitude towards homosexuality so as to develop a practical educational program for promoting healthy gender identity.
