A Simple Multi-rate Parallel Interference Canceller for the IMT-2000 3GPP System (IMT-2000 3GPP 시스템을 위한 간단한 다중 전송률 병렬형 간섭제거기)

  • In this paper, we propose an effective but simple multi-rate parallel interference canceller(PIC) for the international mobile telecommunications-2000(IMT-2000) 3rd generation partnership project (3GPP) system. For effective multi-rate processing, we define the basic block as one symbol period of the dedicated physical control channel(DPCCH) having the lowest data rate and common to all users. Then, decision and interference cancellation are performed at every basic block. For an asynchronous channel, we propose an advance removal scheme that removes in advance multiple access interference(MAI) due to the next blockof other users with shorter delay. Introducing a pipeline structure at a sample base, we can implement efficiently the PIC using the advance removal scheme with a minimum hardware and no extra computations. Through computer simulations, we analyze the bit error rate(BER) performance of the proposed PIC with respect to signal-to-noise ratio(SNR) and the number of users.

Effective Transmission System of Multimedia Services using Eureka-147 DAB (Eureka-147 DAB를 통한 멀티미디어 서비스의 효율적인 전송시스템)

  • The Eureka-147 Digital Audio Broadcasting(DAB) system is the new international standard for mobile broadcasting services including high-quality audio, program associated data and other multimedia data. In this paper, we design the transport frame structures for the mobile multimedia services by using the configuration of the Eureka-147 DAB multiplex and MPEG system specifications, and then compare their performances in terms of functionality and overhead. Especially, we suggest and analyze the effective transport structures, which are improved in the efficiency of media multiplexing architecture, by removing the functionally overlapped parts between DAB and MPEG systems. In addition, we evaluate the transmission environments of various DAB data channels and demonstrate the transmission error effects on the low bit rate video stream.

  • Recently, the advent of World-Wide-Web(WWW) and the explosive popularity of the Internet gave birth to collaborative applications which were enabled by computers and networks as their primary media. The progress of 3D computer graphics enabled collaborative application with 3D virtual environments or distributed virtual environments. In this paper, we explain our implementation of the Share collaboration engine which is for collaboration applications based on a distributed virtual environment. We introduce Virtual Architectural Engineering 2000 (VAE2000) that is our pilot application implemented with the Share collaboration engine. The Share collaboration engine proposes a new Share network architecture for management of participants, and it provides some synchronization methods for 3D objects in virtual collaboration. VAE2000 is an experimental application that tries to prevent wastes of human, material and time resources in networked virtual collaboration.

Impact of Sea Surface Scattering on Performance of QPSK (해면산란이 QPSK 성능에 미치는 영향)

  • Time-variant sea surface causes a forward scattering and Doppler spreading in received signal on underwater acoustic communication system. This results in time-varying amplitude, frequency and phase variation of the received signal. In such a way the channel coherence bandwidth and fading feature also change with time. Consequently, the system performance is degraded and high-speed coherent digital communication is disrupted. In this paper, quadrature phase shift keying (QPSK) performance is examined in two different sea surface conditions. The impact of sea surface scattering on performance is analyzed on basis of the channel impulse response and temporal coherence using linear frequency modulation (LFM) signal. The impulse response and the temporal coherence of the rough sea surface condition were more unstable and less than that of the calm sea surface condition, respectively. By relating these with time variant envelope, amplitude and phase of received signal, it was found that the bit error rate (BER) of QPSK are closely related to time variation of sea surface state.

  • Healthcare service helps users' health management by collecting an individual user's activity and biometric data from mobile devices and by providing them to the user. As a result, it has become necessary to perform a research on how to show the collected data. According to information visualization, the same data can have various interpretations depending on how they are represented. Healthcare data must be elivered to information acceptors without errors or distortion as they are directly related to people's health. With the expansion of healthcare service by the development of technology, this study could measure various data from users and was started to provide a necessary guideline for the visualization of measured numerical data. To propose a specific visualization by applying the visualization direction, 5 types of data including present value, measured value, relative value, relation data, and prediction value were set as the values necessary for the continuous use of mobile healthcare. Visualization was proposed concretely by applying clarity, variable comparison, brevity, relation, reliability, independence, and contextuality, which are the criteria for vitalizing the healthcare service.

  • In this paper we present a Distributed Object oriented Virtual computing Environment, called DOVE which consists of autonomous distributed objects interacting with one another via method invocations based on a distributed object model. DOVE appears to a user logically as a single virtual computer for a set of heterogeneous hosts connected by a network as if objects in remote site reside in one virtual computer. By supporting efficient parallelism, heterogeneity, group communication, single global name service and fault-tolerance, it provides a transparent and easy-to-use programming environment for parallel applications. Efficient parallelism is supported by diverse remote method invocation, multiple method invocation for object group, multi-threaded architecture and synchronization schemes. Heterogeneity is achieved by automatic data arshalling and unmarshalling, and an easy-to-use and transparent programming environment is provided by stub and skeleton objects generated by DOVE IDL compiler, object life control and naming service of object manager. Autonomy of distributed objects, multi-layered architecture and decentralized approaches in hierarchical naming service and object management make DOVE more extensible and scalable. Also,fault tolerance is provided by fault detection in object using a timeout mechanism, and fault notification using asynchronous exception handling methods

  • This paper describes the design and development of VSI (VLBI standard interface) optical adapter for transmitting VLBI(Very long baseline interferometry) observation data with optical signal. VSI cable comprised of 80-line is being used for observed data transmission with maximum length of 5-meter between playbacks (Mark5B, VERA2000) and raw VLBI data buffer (RVDB), RVDB and VLBI correlation subsystem (VCS) in Daejeon correlator. It has a plan to conduct the data processing for 16-stations and introduce the 14 RVDB systems in near future. And data loss frequently occurred because of trouble of VSI cable MDR80 connector. By considering the data loss by connector error of VSI cable, RVDB system extension plan, effective space usage and long distance data transmission(e-VLBI), the VSI optical adapter was proposed and developed for effectively transmitting and receiving VLBI data through optical signal. In order to confirming the performance of developed VSI optical adapter, the experiments for data transmission was conducted between playback and RVDB system, and confirmed that data transmission was clearly done without any data loss.

  • Variables and expressions are essential for doing mathematics. Especially abbreviations of the multiplication sign ${\times}$ and the division sign ${\div}$ are current rules that we usually follow. In this paper, we devised a Card-Game for exercising abbreviations of the multiplication sign ${\times}$ and the division sign ${\div}$ in calculating expressions, designed a teaching unit for the calculation of expressions using the Card-Game in the variables and expressions strand, and discussed the implications of using the Card-Game for motivating students, cooperative learning, diagnosis and correction of errors, and so on.

  • The Internet had been taken properties which were both a slow speed and low-bandwidth of the first time. It was impossible to transmit large multimedia data because of a Internet properties. After tens of Year Passed, many people began to transmit multimedia data in the Internet which had fast-speed and high-bandwidth. Some people want to team classes to be taught in school through the Internet. And, educators wish to use multimedia data in the educational field. Due to previous reasons, many parts in the educational field had tried to join real-time objects to multimedia objects. But, real-time data didn’t appear easily due to many faults like network errors and system bugs if we want to control data in order to teach and learn classes. Then, this paper separates real-time and unreal-time data and controls these data that aye made a time scheduler to have time information in the extended SMIL-file for deceasing these faults.

Search of Beacon in Low Power Wireless Interface (저전력 무선접속에서 비콘 탐색)

  • In IEEE 802.11b wireless network, stations synchronize themselves to the beacons periodically sent by the access point(AP) when they are running in low power mode. In case of missing beacon due to noise or traffic from neighboring wireless network stations must be awake until they get the next beacon, which causes energy consumption in stations. In this paper, we propose a scheme searching next beacon consuming little energy. The problems of missing beacon in low power mode of IEEE 802.11b wireless interface are described and a new method to reduce energy consumption is proposed. The proposed method is simulated with the network simulator, ns2, and compared with the low power mode of the IEEE 802.11b. The result measured in terms of station's wakeup time shows some enhancement in energy consumption when some errors occur in receiving frames.
