  • Due to the increasing influence of the Korean Wave, traditional themes are emerging to the forefront of performance content development, emphasizing the necessity of applying the art of storytelling to the creative process. The purpose of this research is to examine the differentiated costume design of the Pansori ballet "Dokkaeba! Dokkaeba!," developed through the implementation of storytelling in its performance creation process. Choreographers, writers, and costume designer collaborated throughout the storytelling process from planning to content creation. This resulted in a clarified depiction of the Dokkaebi as divine beings with transcendental powers who are simultaneously friendly and familiar entities, often appearing in the form of humans and objects. Accordingly, the costume design based on this collaborative storytelling deliberately avoided the appearance of Dokkaebi reminiscent of 'Kwimyeonwa' or Japanese 'Oni', typically expressed with horns or decorations, and instead implemented novel design elements, such as fusion Hanbok with a variety of dimensionally aesthetic accessories, meaningful color contrast in modern clothing, textural elements indirectly expressing character and transmogrification, and daily clothing attire to illustrate the humanized Dokkaebi. Therefore, this study seeks to contribute to the production of new performance art showcasing the Dokkaebi by identifying the diversity of expression and direction within costume design.

  • In this study, we evaluated the anti-cancer activity and potential molecular mechanism of 70% ethanol extracts of leaves from Rodgersia podophylla against human colorectal cancer cells, HCT116. RPL dose-dependently decreased the cell viability through RPL-induced apoptosis in HCT116 cells. RPL induced inactivation the nuclear factor κB(NF-κB) through blocking IκB-α degradtion and P65 nuclear accumulation. The inhibition of GSK3β by LiCl attenuated RP-L-mediated NF-κB signaling inactivation. In addition, RP-L induced GSK3β activation. Based on these findings, RPL may be a potential candidate for the development of chemopreventive or therapeutic agents for human colorectal cancer.

  • The gametophytes of Cyrtomium falcatum and Cyrtomium caryoptideum var. coreanum arising from spores were mechanically homogenized and cultured In vitro, to study their gametophyte ontogeny and sporophyte development. Homogenized gametophytic tissues formed as one-dimensional filaments after 2 weeks in culture and then glowed into blanched gamatophytes after 4 weeks. After 6 weeks, which were developed to two dimensional plates with apical notch and meristem in central zone. After 8 weeks in culture, apomictic buds were formed on the midribs without archegonium formation and these buds developed to sporophytes after 10 weeks in culture. Flow cytometric analysis of gametophytes and apomictic sporophytes revealed that both forms had the same ploidy level in C. falcatum and C. caryoptideum vu. coreanum, respectively. This is to certify that C. caryoptideum var. coreanum was an apomictic fern as well as C. falcatum.

  • This study was carried out to investigate the effects of light, temperature, and priming treatment on the germination of Bidens bipinnata seeds for the purpose of cultivation of new vegetable crop. The results showed that the treatment of $25^{\circ}C$ yielded the highest germination percentages and the highest germination speed in both light and dark conditions. Light condition had no effect on the germination of B. bipinnata. Priming treatments demon-strated the following improved germination percentages: $Ca(NO_3)_2$ 0.1 M (68.3%), $K_3PO_4$ 0.1 M (63.3%), and $KNO_3$ 0.1 M (53.3%), with $Ca(NO_3)_2$ 0.1 M treatment giving the greatest improvement. Consequentially, the results suggested that $25^{\circ}C$ light condition, and $K_3PO_4$ 0.1 M or $Ca(NO_3)_2$ 0.1 M priming treatments would be effective method to improve the germination of Bidens bipinnata seeds.

  • Two newly naturalized species were recorded from Incheon (Youngjong-do) and Ulsan. Among them, Bidens polylepis S.F. Blake (Asteraceae) was widespread and was found in the following locations: Unbuk bridge, Unbuk-dong, Jung-gu in Incheon, and Chuiseosan, Banggi-ri, Samnam-myeon as well as a Saemmul mountain cabin on Jaeaksan, Sangbuk-myeon in Ulju-gun, Ulsan. Bidens polylepis can be distinguished from congeneric species by its larger ray-flowers. The Korean name of Bidens polylepis was newly formulated based on the characteristic of its yellow ray-flowers and on the Korean name of the genus Bidens (Asteraceae). The other species, numerous populations of Saponaria officinalis L. (Caryophyllaceae) were found in two areas in Jeotgae village, Unseo-dong, Jung-gu, Incheon. Saponaria officinalis can be distinguished from congeneric species in the family by two features, shallow calyx teeth and a petal with appendages at the base of the blade.

  • This experiment was carried out to find out proper pot size and bottom irrigation interval for the flowerpot cultivation of Cyrtomium falcatum, 3 different pot sizes (5, 7, 10cm in diameter) and 3 irrigation interval (1 day, 3 days, 5 days) were treated by completely randomized design with 3 replications. Growth characteristics of Cyrtomium falcatum were investigated every 30 days after planting. The pot size of 7 to 10cm in diameter and the irrigation interval of 5 days appeared to be appropriate for Cyrtomium falcatum cultivation.

  • In order to evaluate the weed suppressing effect of Solanum viarum Dunal. In this study species diversity in patch of S. viarum and allelopathic effects of the aqueous extracts on S. viarum were investigated. Number of species and species diversity in site close to patch of S. viarum were decreased gradually 1site ($7.7{\pm}2.0,\;1.5{\pm}0.2$), 2site ($5.3{\pm}1.2,\;1.2{\pm}0.2$) and 3site ($4.0{\pm}1.7,\;0.9{\pm}0.1$). And total phenolic compounds of soil in survey area were increased gradually site1 ($0.16{\pm}0.01mg\;g^{-1}$), site2 ($0.17{\pm}0.01mg\;g^{-1}$) and site3 ($0.22{\pm}0.02mg\;g^{-1}$). So the number of species and species diversity (r=-0.692, P<0.05) were negatively correlated with increased total phenolic compounds of soil in the survey area. The relative germination ratio, the mean germination time, the relative elongation ratio, the fresh weight and the dry weight of receptor plants are generally getting decreased while the concentration of the aqueous extracts from S. viarum escalate. But every ratio was various depending on the growing regions, the kind of receptor plants and the treatment of the aqueous extracts. Especially, the radicle by injection of the aqueous extracts concentration of S. viarum was influenced more than the shoot on the same condition. The total phenolic compounds on region of S. viarum was gradually increased in stems (fresh $0.56{\pm}0.02mg\;g^{-1}$, dry $1.58{\pm}0.08mg\;g^{-1}$), roots (fresh $1.77{\pm}0.07mg\;g^{-1}$, dry $2.64{\pm}0.06mg\;g^{-1}$), leaves (fresh $6.01{\pm}0.14mg\;g^{-1}$, dry $7.04{\pm}0.29mg\;g^{-1}$), seeds (fresh $6.21{\pm}0.17mg\;g^{-1}$, dry $9.08{\pm}0.73mg\;g^{-1}$) in order. On the contrary, the negative correlation on germination and growth of receptor plants was shown by total phenolic compounds on the each parts of S. viarum. We think that the aqueous extracts of S. viarum showed allelopathic effects on other plants. Therefore, S. viarum holds the higher competitiveness in plant community in Jeju Island and makes possibility of application as natural herbicide.
