  • Objective : This study was aimed to review randomized controlled trials (RCTs) about whether aromatherapy relieves stress. Method : We searched document about criteria to use words like 'Aroma', 'Oil' and 'Stress'. The study included 24 RCTs which were selected by total 167 studies searched in Korean Journal by searching OASIS, ScienceON, KISS, RISS. Cases that cannot be performed alone are excluded. Results : We got 24 domestic standard documents. Of the 24 studies, 14 were for students, and 6 were for patients receiving hospital treatment. Among the 7 treatments, dry-inhalation was used 13 times, and necklace-inhalation was used 9 times. Of the 24 Studies, lavender oil was used 19 times and sweet orange was used 4 times. Among the 28 types of measuring instruments used, 10 related to the autonomic nervous system and 8 STAIs and VASs were used respectively. Conclusion : It was possible to conclude that aromatherapy was effective in relieving stress. Through further research, it is necessary to study effective oil mixing methods, methods for measuring subjective stress, multimodal intervention, and effective intervention periods.

  • Objectives : Intestinal epithelial cell damage is closely associated with various intestinal diseases, such as Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD), Celiac Disease and Gastroenteritis, and it plays a crucial role in the development and progression of intestinal diseases. Therefore, it is important to develop drugs that target protection of intestinal epithelial cells. Here, we aimed to investigated whether Bambusae Caulis in Liquamen (BCL) against t-BHP induced oxidative stress injury in human intestinal epithelial cells and to explore the underlying molecular mechanism. Methods : In this study, we performed MTT assay, measurement of ROS generation, and immunoblot analysis to determine the cytoprotective efficacy in HT29 cells (human colorectal adenocarinoma cell line with epithelial morphogy). Results : First, we checked that BCL was not cytotoxic up to concentration 30 ㎍/mL in HT29 cells. Then, we confirmed that BCL inhibited t-BHP-induced ROS and cell death. BCL also reversed the expression of proteins associated apoptosis. Next, to confirm the relationship between efficacy of BCL and Nrf2, we conducted experiments using siNrf2. Asresult, the effects of inhibiting ROS production and cell death of BCL was reversed by siNrf2. Conclusion : BCL prevents t-BHP-induced oxidative stress and apoptosis. And the efficacy of BCL is related to Nrf2 activation.

  • Objectives: The purpose of this study is to evaluate the development of the near poor Families' Children via learning disability indices, frontal executive function. Methods: Seventeen children (10 boys, 7 girls, 6.6-11.9 years) from the near poor Families' were enrolled in this study. Children were evaluated for a learning disability and frontal executive function. Results: In Learning disability indices, 3 children showed low scores in subscales and 2 children showed low scores in learning quotient. In Frontal executive function, 3 children showed low scores in CCTT (Children's Color Trails Test) and 11children showed low scores in STROOP (Stroop Color and Word Test). Conclusions: Intensive management, educational programs, and additional neuropsychological tests will be needed in children with low learning scores.

  • Objectives: This is a case report on the treatment of one patient with acute angle-closure glaucoma using traditional Korean medicine. Methode: We assessed the progression of acute angle-closure glaucoma by analyzing Optical Coherence Tomography(OCT) results. Results: Acute angle closure glaucoma did not progress to OCT after treatment. Conculsion: We obtained results from OCT examinations indicating that the progression of acute angle-closure glaucoma had ceased after Korean herbal medicine treatment.

  • A patient with an epigastralgia was treated with Korean medicine for the short-term period of five days under admission care. In this case report, we discuss the efficacy and safety of short-term treatment using Korean medicine methods on a patient with an epigastralgia by evaluating a numerical rating scale, agastrointestinal symptom questionnaire, clinical features, and blood tests. The complex methods comprise purgation therapy using Crotonis Fructus, Korean herbal medication, acupuncture and moxibustion. Throughout the purgation therapy with Crotonis Fructus, the patient reported improvement in both her pain score and dyspepsia index. This case showed that Korean medicine acted not only fast, but also effective for treating epigastralgia patients diagnosed with functional dyspepsia.

  • Objectives: This study aimed to identify whether herbal medicine improves the clinical symptoms and abnormal blood tests of a patient with fatty liver accompanied by hypertriglyceridemia. Methods: A 44-year-old man with fatty liver and hypertriglyceridemia was prescribed Saenggangunbi-tang from July 20, 2020, to November 11, 2020, to reduce fatigue and to improve laboratory findings, such as liver enzymes and the lipid profile. We observed changes in symptoms, serum levels of liver enzymes, and the lipid profile during about 4-month treatment. We also recorded changes in the bioelectrical impedance analyzer findings during that time. Results: In this case study, an approximately 4-month treatment with Saenggangunbi-tang led to considerable improvement in laboratory findings and visceral fat area. In particular, the patient experienced a noticeable decrease in triglyceride levels compared with the baseline parameters of the first visit. In addition, no side effects-including weight gain and liver enzyme increases-were observed during treatment. Conclusion: This study suggests that appropriately prescribed herbal medicine is a therapeutic option to manage fatty liver combined with hypertriglyceridemia.

  • Objective : Stroke patients tend to take antibiotics due to infection resulting from complication. One of many side effects from using antibiotics is diarrhea, which infact causes anaerobic organism dysfunction resulting Pseudo-Membranous Colitis (P.M.C). To treat P.M.C, antibiotics and antibacterial agents are usually used. But they may cause other side effects, therefore extreme caution must be taken. Methods : We treated an antibiotic induced P.M.C patient who diagnosed by sigmoid scopy with only Yijoong-tang (Lizhong-tang) without antibiotics and observed patients stool aspects. Results and Conclusion : Patiensts symptom was improved after 7days, and we can see the improvement by follow-up sigmoid scopy. This case may give us a possibility of that oriental medical treatments as complementary and alternative medicine to standard antibiotic treatment.

  • Although hypertension doesn't kill itself, its complications can be deadly: increased risk of heart attack and stroke. So hypertension is often called the silent killer, and this is why controlled hypertension is so important. A 51 year-old female stroke patient was diagnosed with hypertension 10 years ago. Since then, though western medication have been used to control her hypertension, it was ineffective. As we know, obesity can cause high blood pressure, so we try weight-loss as alternative way to her hypertension drug. After discharge from hospital, she reduce her weight by 10kg and more by diet only. And her blood pressure became decreased steadily. As maintaining her decreased weight, her blood pressure is now relatively stable without taking any medication. In this case, we recognised that weight-loss by diet could be effective instead of taking hypertension drug for obesity patient who has high blood pressure.
