■ Objectives The purpose of this case is to report the effectiveness of Korean medicine in the treatment of irritable bowel syndrome with diarrhea. ■ Methods The patient was diagnosed as a Soeumin, one of the 4 constitution types in Korean medicine, and treated with herbal medicine, Osuyubujaijung-tang and acupuncture treatment. The severity of symptom was assessed using daily defecation frequency, Numerical Rating Scale (NRS) of abdominal pain, Gastrointestinal Symptom Rating Scale (GSRS) score and Irritable Bowel Syndrome - Quality of Life (IBS-QOL) score. ■ Results After treatment, the defecation frequency was reduced from 6 to 2 times a day, and the severity of abdominal pain was reduced from NRS 6 to NRS 2. Also, GSRS score was decreased from 18 to 4 and IBS-QOL score was improved from 70.59 to 81.18. ■ Conclusion This study suggested that Korean medical treatment could be an effective option for treating irritable bowel syndrome with diarrhea.

■ Objectives The purpose of this case study is to report the effectiveness of Gami Ssanghwa-tang on the restless legs syndrome patient. ■ Methods The patient was treated with Korean medicine, including herbal medication Gami Ssanghwa-tang for 26 days and acupuncture for once a week as an out patient. The evaluation was performed using the Korean versions of the International Restless Legs Scale(K-IRLS). ■ Results After 34 days of treatment, the K-IRLS total score improved from 24 to 8. And at the follow up session(7 days after end of treatment), the K-IRLS total score improved to 0. ■ Conclusion This study suggested that herbal medicine, Gami Ssanghwa-tang might be effective in Restless legs syndrome.

Hemorrhagic cystitis refers to massive inflammation and the diffuse vesical bleeding of the bladder. In patients with hematuria complaining of dysuria and pain, it is necessary to differentiate various causes, including cystitis, nephritis, and prostatitis. After the diagnosis of hemorrhagic cystitis, antibiotics usually treat and prevent further urinary tract infections. In the present case, a 78-year-old female patient with hemorrhagic cystitis presenting with hematuria underwent Korean medical treatment with Jeoryeong-tang-hap-Samul-tang for 29 days. The effect of the treatment was assessed with the hematuria grading scale (HGS) per week, urinalysis per two weeks, and the NRS (numeric rating scale) of dysuria per day. After treatment, both HGS and NRS scores decreased, and protein, blood, and red blood cells (RBCs) in urinalysis improved. This case report suggests that Jeoryeong-tang-hap-Samul-tang might be an effective option for hemorrhagic cystitis patients who continuously take antiplatelets.

Objective: This case study reported the effectiveness of adjuvant Korean therapy on gait disturbances induced by drug-induced Parkinsonism. Method: A patient suffering from frontotemporal lobe dementia was diagnosed with drug-induced Parkinsonism and treated with adjuvant Korean therapy, including herbal medicine and pharmaco-acupuncture. The evaluation was performed by monitoring the length of time and number of steps during an 8 m gait, using the Unified Parkinson's Disease Rating Scale (UPDRS). Results: After 17 days of adjuvant Korean therapy, the UPDRS score improved from 32 to 16. The length of time for the 8 m gait improved from 20 seconds to 14 seconds. The patient also showed a decrease in the number of steps during the 8 m gait from 43 to 22. Conclusion: This case suggests that adjuvant Korean therapy can be effective for drug-induced Parkinsonism.

This study reported a case of hot flashes in a patient after coronavirus disease-2019 (COVID-19) infection. The patient in this case was hospitalized for eight days and improved after the administration of Korean medicine, mainly Yangkyuksanwha-tang. We evaluated the patient's subjective discomfort daily, and the patient kept a diary of hot flashes every day. After treatment, the degree and frequency of hot flashes were greatly improved and continued two weeks after discharge. In addition, the accompanying hyperhidrosis improved from Grade 2 to Grade 0. This study suggests that Korean medicine might be effective in combating the hot flashes of soyangin-type patients.

■ Objectives The purpose of this case study is to report the effect of Gami SSanghwa-tang on a patient with central post-stroke pain. ■ Methods The patient was treated with herbal medicine Gami SSanghwa-tang, acupuncture, pharmaco-acupuncture, and moxibustion. The treatment effect was evaluated by Numerical Rating Scale(NRS), Neuropathic Pain Symptom Inventory(NPSI), and 36-item Short-form Health Survey(SF-36). ■ Results After the treatment, the NRS score of pain intensity was reduced from moderate to mild degree. The total NPSI score and subscores also decreased, as the various features of the pain were relieved. The SF-36 score increased, as the patient's quality of life improved. ■ Conclusion This case study suggests that Gami SSanghwa-tang, could be effective in reducing pain and improving quality of life of patients suffering from central post-stroke pain.

■ Objectives The purpose of this case report is to show the effect of Traditional Korean Medicine (TKM) on a patient with horizontal eye movement disorder due to Foville syndrome. ■ Methods A patient with horizontal eye movement disorder as Foville syndrome was treated with herbal medication, acupuncture, electro-acupuncture and transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation. Then we evaluated the improvement with mobility impairment, length of movement and House-Brackmann scale before and after treatment ■ Results Improvements of mobility impairment, distance at left gaze and House-Brackmann scale were observed after the TKM treatment. ■ Conclusion This case report shows the effect of TKM treatment on horizontal eye movement disorder due to Foville syndrome.

A case of a 73-year-old male patient who fell down, presented with unusual traumatic subdural hematoma localized on the lesion of tentorium cerebelli. He was treated with acupuncture, electroacupuncture and herbal medicine - 五苓散(Oreong-san). To evaluate the progress, we followed up computed tomography imaging and checked up changing of symptoms. After 17days of treatment, there were notable improvement in computed tomography imaging and symptoms. Oreong-san might be effective in treating tentorium cerebelli subdural hematoma.

■ Objectives The purpose of this case report is to show the effect of Traditional Korean Medicine(TKM) on a patient with insomnia occurred after onset of thalamic hemorrhage. ■ Methods A patient with insomnia diagnosed as thalamic hemorrhage was treated with herbal medication, acupuncture, electro-acupuncture, cupping and moxibustion. Then we evaluated the improvement with the number of times the patient woke up, PSQI-K(Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index-Korean), ISI-K(Insomnia Severity Index-Korean) and KESS(Korean version of Epworth sleepiness scale). ■ Results Decrease in scores of PSQI-K, ISI-K, KESS and the number of times the patients woke up were observed after the TKM treatment. ■ Conclusion This case showed the effect of TKM treatment on poststroke insomnia.

■ Objectives The purpose of this case report is to show the effect of Traditional Korean Medicine(TKM) on a patient with poststroke urinary retention ■ Methods A stroke patient with urinary retention was treated with herbal medication(Paljungsan), acupuncture, electro-acupuncture and moxibustion. To evaluate the effect of TKM on post-stroke urinary retention, we observed voiding pattern and residual urine after voiding. ■ Results Maintenance of regular self voiding and decrease of residual urine after voiding were observed after the TKM treatment. ■ Conclusion This study showed the effect of TKM treatment on Urinary retention of stroke patient.
