A Case Study on Comparison Between Korea and America in Accreditation System of Engineering Education (미국과 한국의 공학교육인증 체제 비교에 대한 사례 연구)

  • The purpose of the study was to analyze system of accreditation for mechanical engineering education between A university in Korea and M university in U.S.A. which were evaluated in 2007 under EC2000. Literature review through self-study report and homepage of two programs was used to accomplish objectives of the study. Strengths of U.S.A for accreditation evaluation system were systematic curriculum operation, design education with cooperation system, course-based evaluation system for program outcome, supportive circumstances for research of faculty and guidance to students. On the other hands, strengths of Korea were likely to use quantitative data for educational improvement and were able to systematic guide to students with portfolio. In the future, plan and research for design education, curriculum operation and program outcome evaluation are needed to establish ABEEK evaluation.

An Importance and Performance Analysis regarding Classroom Assessment - Professional General Education and MSC curriculum in the Engineering College Enrichment Program - (학습 평가에 대한 중요도 및 수행도 분석(IPA) - 공과대학 심화프로그램의 전문교양 및 MSC 교과목을 중심으로 -)

  • The main objective of this research lies in estimating how much importance the educators of professional general education and MSC curriculum put on assessment, and, thereafter, take what support should be provided for the efficient assessment of education. The subjects of this research are educators of professional general education and MSC curriculum in the engineering education enrichment program at the 58 universities out of 72 universities where the accreditation for engineering education is implemented. Accordingly questionnaires were distributed to a total of 58 universities among which 136 questionnaires were collected. The data analysis methods, mean and response sample T test, were used in this research. The following conclusions were drawn from the results of this research. First, tile mean of importance and performance in the 'assessment activities' were relatively high. However, in tile assessment, the assessment performance was relatively lower than the assessment importance. Second, the results of the Importance-Performance Matrix in the 'assessment activities' was analyzed by two ways. First, Analyzed with the scale mean, The result means that Keep up the Good Work (KGW) sector included all factors. Second, Analyzed with the actual mean, The result means that KGW sector included 5 factors A, J, B, D, C. Possible Overkill(PO) sector included factors C, I. Low Priority(LP) sector included 4 factors K, E, H, L. Concentrate Here (CH) sector included factor G.

  • The purpose of this study is to develop the model curriculum for Geomatics/Geoinformatics. Geomatics/Geoinformatics are emerging discipline for spatial data acquisition and processing. They have multidisciplinary characteristics which include surveying, computer sciences, spatial data processing-related disciplines. This study carried out with the in-depth study to the related department's the academic characteristics and curriculums. Generally, the curriculum consists of surveying and information technology. They basically require mathematics, physics as prerequisites. The related-departments belong to the engineering or science part. So, We can conclude that the academic characteristics have to belong In engineering sides. Modern disciplines usually require balanced knowledge, and Geomatics/Geoinformatics have to the multidisciplinary approaches. This study shows 1) the model curriculum of Geomatics/Geoinformatics for the 21st century by analyzing the related departments' curriculum, it consist of surveying, computer/information sciences, sustainable urban management and related laws, etc., 2) the needs of the good cooperation among the related disciplines and industry for the development of standardized texts and curriculums, 3) the needs of new certification for Geomatics/Geoinformatics, etc.

  • The development of communication technology applying the computer has generalized the application of Computer Graphics and enlarged the limit of expression in Design environment. Therefore, the technology and the method of CG application, which can be applied in diverse Design areas appropriately, are closely connected with the results of Design, and these are becoming the important matter of the competitiveness for Designer and Design environment. Especially, in the curriculum of university or college having the responsibility for specialities of students, the contents about CG application are being more needed the educational results having the competitiveness. By this meaning, this study presents the methodological approach for the CG applied education concerned with the subject "Computer Aided Design (for Product Design)" which is opened in the Industrial Design Dept. The contents of this study are about the concepts of the 10 steps of design practice and the methods of them which are based on the contents of expression on Product Design. And it presents the results of practice by students as the examples. The result of this study is that students could understand the product Design and CG, and they could learn the CG programs' functions and the methods for the application.plication.

  • In the 21th century, world citizens have more chances to meet and interact with people from different cultural or ethnic backgrounds than ever before. It is therefore inevitable that multiculturalism has become one of the integral part of music education. Educators in every field should make conscious efforts to provide opportunities and experiences for students so that they can adequately cope with these culturally diverse encounters. This study is to grasp the current state of multicultural education in the teacher education program in Korea and America. Also it is aimed to figure out the current multicultural music course offerings available for undergraduate music education majors at the selected 10 American Universities. It is expected that this study may suggest an idea of multicultural-world music education in teacher education.

The Effects of TBL(Team based learning) on the Academic Achievements and Learning Satisfaction of University Students (대학생들의 학업성취도 및 학습만족도에 대한 팀 기반 학습 적용의 효과에 관한 연구)

  • The purpose of this study was investigating effects of TBL (Team-based learning) on the academic achievements and learning satisfaction of university students. This study subjects were 46students in social welfare department. This study surveyed instructor-led classes and orientation of TBL, which is provided from the 1st week to 3rd week. Then, TBL was performed from 4th week to 14th week. The results were found by utilizing questionnaires and interviews through free form technology, which produced effective and measured responses. So academic achievements was improved significantly better than classical explanation teaching. And also learning satisfaction was improved with students' substantial amount, interesting and seamless interaction, active learning and participation, improved presentation technique, and competence in mutual communication. I suggest that TBL should be applied to other subjects.

The Factors Affecting Clients Rights Advocacy : Focused on Adult Learners in Social Welfare Classes (클라이언트 권리옹호에 미치는 영향 요인 연구: 사회복지 과목 이수 성인학습자를 중심으로)

  • The present study set out to explore the factors affecting rights advocacy for clients. The sample consisted of 251 adult learners who were in the classes of social welfare in S cyber university. Analysis revealed that students' rights advocacy level was 4.19(high) and the respondents showed higher level of class/case advocacy than policy advocacy. The group which had higher human rights sensitivity and had experience of human rights education showed higher level of rights advocacy. Regression analysis revealed that the experiences of human rights education in university curriculum were found to have a significant explanatory power in rights advocacy. These findings highlight that in the education of social worker as a human rights professionals it would be necessary to enhance the human rights and rights advocacy contents. It was suggested that multidisciplinary teaching method including direct experience and participation would be necessary to effective human rights education.

A Survey for the Development of a 3D Printing Related Course in Fashion Design Department (3D 프린팅 관련 교과목 개발을 위한 기초 연구 - 전문대학 패션디자인과를 중심으로 -)

  • The purpose of this study is to provide fundamental data for the development of new course on 3D printing in the fashion design department. In order to investigate the perception of and educational needs in 3D printing, the data were collected from 266 students (female 68.8%, male 31.2%) majoring in fashion design aged 18-25 living in the capital area. The results of this survey showed that when investigating perceptions of 3D printing, it was found that 68.8% of answerers had indeed heard of 3D printing. Regarding the path they came to know about 3D printing, mass media such TV was the most frequent answer (54.6%). On the other hand, to the question asking about their intention to take the subject if given, approximately 71% said "Yes". Also, if a modeling class were given, the division that they wanted to explore most in the fashion industry was fashion jewelry. Finally, to the question asking interest in starting a business, 71.1% answered that they had interest. Out of those that answered that they had interest, when questioned about in which field they wanted to start a business, the most frequent answer was fashion online shopping mall. Finally, NCS-based 3D printing courses were suggested in the Fashion Design area. As 3D printing techniques are actively applied to the fashion industry overseas, creative education is needed through the integration of fashion and 3D printing technology by introducing 3D printing related programs in colleges.

A Study on the Effectiveness the Blended e-Learning on Teaching and Learning of the Engineering Mathematics (블렌디드 이러닝이 공학수학 교수·학습에 미치는 효과)

  • The purpose of this study was to find out how Blended e-Learning affected the teaching and learning of engineering mathematics for engineering students. It has researched the application condition of Blended e-Learning and the students' attitude in the offline classes of students. The subject were 42 students of Junior in the Department of Mechanic Engineering in M-University participated in the study. The lecturer taught the class for the students by fact-to-face teaching at the offline. It was recorded all processes during the class, and the video was loaded at the Learning Management System(LMS). The students studied online by themselves. This study investigated the attitude of students at the offline and the Utilization of Online Data by learners through the mixed class for one semester. The results were as follows. First, Blended e-Learning applied engineering mathematics affected positively for the self-regulated and individualized learning to the students. Second, Blended e-Learning has shown a positive impact on the teaching and learning of engineering mathematics. Finally, it also had a positive effect on the class satisfaction level of students.

  • MTP(Multi-graded Tutoring Project) is a designed curriculum needed to perform a high quality project to improve teamwork and major skills for college student of science and engineering. Each student can experience teaching activities as a tutor and learning activities as a tutee in the MTP for three years. Through this curriculum, students are expected to obtain the capabilities to set up and search the goal of given projects, to make human network among multi-graded students and professionals which could be critical for finding careers, and to perform graduation projects in a more systematic and co-operated way, resulting in highly-qualified outputs. In this paper, MTP e-portfolio evaluation model is suggested. This model evaluates the individual-level performance operating in MTP curriculum. The evaluation model is described with three dimensional structure composed of participator, changes in learning, and learning processes. The resultant model could be utilized as tools for evaluating the curriculum set up for the multi-graded project-based teaching environment.
