  • In this paper, a cochlea-inspired artificial filter bank(CAFB) was developed in order to efficiently acquire dynamic response of structure, and it was also evaluated via dynamic response experiments. To sort out signals containing significant modal information from all the dynamic responses of structure, it was made to adopt a band-pass filter optimizing algorithm(BOA) and a peak-picking algorithm (PPA). Optimally designed on the basis of El-centro and Kobe earthquake signals, it was then embedded into the wireless multi-measurement system(WiMMS). In order to evaluate the performance of the developed CAFB, a vibration test was conducted using the El-centro and Kobe earthquake signals, and structural responses of a two-span bridge were obtained and analyzed simultaneously by both a wired measurement system and a CAFB-based WiMMS. The test results showed that the compressed dynamic responses acquired by the CAFB-based WiMMS matched with those of the wired system, and they included significant modal information of the two-span bridge. Therefore this study showed that the developed CAFB could be used as a new, economic, and efficient measurement device for wireless sensor networks(WSNs) based real time structural health monitoring because it could reconstruct the whole dynamic response using the compressed dynamic response with significant modal information.

  • In this paper, we compared speaker verification performance of the speech data collected in clean environment and in channel environment. For the improvement of the performance of speaker verification gathered in channel, we have studied on the efficient feature parameters in channel environment and on the preprocessing. Speech DB for experiment is consisted of Korean doublet of numbers, considering the text-prompted system. Speech features including LPCC(Linear Predictive Cepstral Coefficient), MFCC(Mel Frequency Cepstral Coefficient), PLP(Perceptually Linear Prediction), LSP(Line Spectrum Pair) are analyzed. Also, the preprocessing of filtering to remove channel noise is studied. To remove or compensate for the channel effect from the extracted features, cepstral weighting, CMS(Cepstral Mean Subtraction), RASTA(RelAtive SpecTrAl) are applied. Also by presenting the speech recognition performance on each features and the processing, we compared speech recognition performance and speaker verification performance. For the evaluation of the applied speech features and processing methods, HTK(HMM Tool Kit) 2.0 is used. Giving different threshold according to male or female speaker, we compare EER(Equal Error Rate) on the clean speech data and channel data. Our simulation results show that, removing low band and high band channel noise by applying band pass filter(150~3800Hz) in preprocessing procedure, and extracting MFCC from the filtered speech, the best speaker verification performance was achieved from the view point of EER measurement.

  • For development of the surface acoustic wave bandpass filter(SAW-BPF), we fabricated the high quality ZnO thin films through the step-by-step(double) deposition using two different deposition methods which are pulsed laser deposition(PLD) and RF sputtering techniques. The second growth of ZnO thin films was completed by RF sputtering method on the first ZnO thin films pre-deposited by PLD method. The characteristics of ZnO thin films were analyzed by XRD, SEM and AFM systems. The FWHM of ${\omega}$-scan analysis and the minimum RMS value of surface roughness of step-by-step grown ZnO thin films were $0.79^{\circ}$ and 1.108 nm respectively. As a result, the crystallinity and the preferred orientation of the grown ZnO thin films were kept good quality and the surface roughnesses of those were improved by post-annealing process as comparison with ZnO thin film fabricated by the conventional PLD technique only. Using these proposed ZnO thin films, we demonstrated the RF device such as SAW-BPF, built by the proposed ZnO thin films, shows that it has the bandwidth of 2.98 MHz and the insertion loss of 36.5 dB at the center frequency of 260.8 MHz, respectively.

  • In this paper, parasitic resonance modes generated in a conductor backed coplanar wave guide(CBCPW) and stripline band pass filter(BPF) and the oscillation phenomena of a 40 GHz power amplifier module(PAM) are analyzed and several methods to suppress them are presented for low-temperature co-fired ceramic(LTCC) based millimeter-wave RF System-in-Package(SiP) applications. Parasitic rectangular wave guide(RWG) modes of the CBCPW structure are completely suppressed in the operation frequency band by decreasing the distance between its vias and by increasing the mode frequency. In the stripline structure, RWG resonance modes are clearly eliminated by removing some vias facing each other and by placing them diagonally. In the case of the 40 GHz PAM, in order to reduce a cross talk due to radiation that is generated from interconnection discontinuities, high isolation structures such as embedded DC bas lines and CPW signal lines are used and then the oscillated PAM is improved.

  • In this study, we have developed a drone magnetic exploration system (proto-type) using a fluxgate magnetic sensor. Hardware of the system consists of a fluxgate magnetometer, an inertial measurement unit (IMU), a GPS, and a communication module. And we have developed monitoring software, which enables it to transmit the measured data to the ground control system (GCS) in real time. The measured magnetic data are finally saved as 1 Hz data after passing through a notch filter and a band-pass filter. For verification of this system, a preliminary test was conducted to check the magnetic responses of a magnetic object first, then the field test was carried out in two iron mines. We tested the developed system on the field test in Pocheon, Gyeonggi and Jeongseon, Gangwon. The magnetic data from the developed drone system was very similar to those from unmanned airship system developed by Korea Institute of Geoscience and Mineral Resources (KIGAM). As a result, preliminary experiment and field test have demonstrated that this system is applicable for outdoor aeromagnetic exploration. It requires more studies to improve filter function and instrument performance to minimize noise in the future.

  • In this study, coda Q has been determined by the single scattering model in the Kyeongsang Basin region using the decay of the amplitudes of coda waves on bandpass-filtered seismograms of local microearthquakes in the frequency range 1.5~18 Hz. Reported frequency dependence of Q is of the form $Q_C=Q_O ^n$$(83.9{ll}Q_0{ll}155.9,;0.76{ll}n{ll}1.05$. Considering a model incorporating both scattering and intrinsic attenuation, and assuming that the attenuation is entirely due to the scattering loss, the minimum mean free paths are about 51~56 km and the coefficients of inelastic attenuation(${\gamma}$) are between 0.0093 and 0.0098 were found. Earthquake-station paths pass through the fault zone show high attenuation and strong frequency dependency compared to other ones.

  • In noisy environments, human speech productions are influenced by noises(Lombard effect), and speech signals are contaminated. These distortions dramatically reduce the performance of speech recognition systems. This paper proposes a method of the Lombard effect compensation and noise suppression in order to improve speech recognition performance in noise environments. To estimate the intensity of the Lombard effect which is a nonlinear distortion depending on the ambient noise levels, speakers, and phonetic units, we formulate the measure of the Lombard effect level based on the acoustic speech signal, and the measure is used to compensate the Lombard effect. The distortions of speech under noisy environments are cancelled out as follows. First, spectral subtraction and band-pass filtering are used to cancel out noise. Second, energy nomalization is proposed to cancel out the variation of vocal intensity by the Lombard effect. Finally, the Lombard effect level controls the transform which converts Lombard speech cepstrum to clean speech cepstrum. The proposed method was validated on 50 korean word recognition. Average recognition rates were 82.6%, 95.7%, 97.6% with the proposed method, while 46.3%, 75.5%, 87.4% without any compensation at SNR 0, 10, 20 dB, respectively.

  • As the ambient vibration test (AVT) of railway bridges has a limited range of speed, it has a limitation in examining the dynamic behavior of bridges accordingto speed. Thus, in order to analyze the correlation between the speed of a train passing over a bridge and the bridge's dynamic response, we conducted a speed-increasing experiment using a real diesel locomotive. To analyze the acceleration response characteristics, we attached seven vertical accelerometers at equal intervals throughout the entire section of the bridge except the supports, and one horizontal accelerometer to the middle span. Linear variable differential transformers (LVDT) were installed at the bridge's center in both vertical and horizontal directions to investigate the vertical and horizontal behaviors. The test train was statically loaded at the center and at the end of the bridge. And its speed was increased from 5 km/h to 90 km/h. With data obtained from the experiment, the vibration level was evaluated in each direction by the filtering frequency, and the level of horizontal vibration was examined in comparison with vertical vibration. The displacement and wheel load variation was analyzed by speed.

  • We present a structure and design method of the D8PSK modem compatible with the VDL mode-2 standard and performance test results of the developed modem. In VDL mode-2, the raised cosine filter is used only in the transmitter and a general low pass filter is used in the receiver. Consequently, we can not achieve ISI reduction but can have better spectrum characteristics. Although there is 1~2 dB performance degradation with an un-matched filter compared to that with a matched filter, it is more important to minimize adjacent channel interference in narrow band communications. The transmit signal is generated digitally to avoid the problems(I/Q imbalance and DC offset etc.) of analog modulators. In addition the digital down converter using digital IF sampling technique is adopted for the receiver. This paper contains the overall configuration, design method and simulation results based in part on the previously proposed structures and algorithms. It is confirmed that the modem transmits and receives messages successfully at a speed of max. 870 km/h over ranges of up to 310 km through the ground and in-flight communication tests.

  • Ventricular fibrillation(VF) is generally caused by chaotic behavior of electrical propagation in heart and may result in sudden cardiac death. In this study, we proposed a ventricular fibrillation detection algorithm based on support vector machine classifier, which could offer benefits to reduce the teaming costs as well as good classification performance. Before the extraction of input features, raw ECG signal was applied to preprocessing procedures, as like wavelet transform based bandpass filtering, R peak detection and segment assignment for feature extraction. We selected input features which of some are related to the rhythm information and of others are related to wavelet coefficients that could describe the morphology of ventricular fibrillation well. Parameters for SVM classifier, C and ${\alpha}$, were chosen as 10 and 1 respectively by trial and error experiments. Each average performance for normal sinus rhythm ventricular tachycardia and VF, was 98.39%, 96.92% and 99.88%. And, when the VF detection performance of SVM classifier was compared to that of multi-layer perceptron and fuzzy inference methods, it showed similar or higher values. Consequently, we could find that the proposed input features and SVM classifier would one of the most useful algorithm for VF detection.
