  • The freshwater fish fauna of the Tokyusan National Park was censused during June 1993 to November 1993 at 9 sampling sites to establish baseline data for natural conservation program on the National Park. Seventeen species included 7 Korean endemic species and/or subspecies(Acheilognaths koreunus, Squazidus gracilis majimae, Microphysogobio yaluensis, Phoxinus kumganensis, Cobitis koreensis koreensis, Silurus microdorsalis and Odontobutis platycephala) belonging to 5 families were collected in this region. Sixteen species were found in Kumkang and 8 species were found in Naktongkang, however, common species were Squalidus gracilis majimae, Microphysogobio yaluensis, Puntungia herzi, Moroco oxycephalus, Zucco temminckii, Misgurnus anguillicaudatus and Odontobutis platycephala. Dominant species of this region were Moroco oxycephalus, Zacco temminckii, Odontobutis platycephala. The final aims of this study were not only accumulate baseline data on the osteology of Korean freshwater fishes which were collected at those streams during June 1993-November 1993 with soft X-ray radiography, but also evaluate the suitability of osteological analyses on the environmental damage to fish.

  • Characteristics of ichthyofauna and fish community in the Lagoon Gyeongpo, Korea, were investigated from May to October 2005. Total 26 species caught during the period were belonged to 18 families. Dominant species was T. hakonesis (50.7%) and subdominant species was A. flavimaus (25.4%). K. punctatus (11.1%), M. cephalus (6.5%), E. japonicus (1.5%), C. castaneus (1.0%) were also numerous. Total biomass of collected fish was 401.8 kg, and biomass of each species was T, hakonensis 147.0 kg, A. flavimanus 135.8 kg, K. punctatus 85.6 kg and M. cephalus 23.8 kg. Seasonal variation of fish community seems to be related to spawning periods of species. In conclusion, it appeared that the ratio of the primary freshwater species was gradually decreased, while the peripheral freshwater and seawater species were gradually increased when compared to the data obtained from the past with respect to the ichthyofauna of the Lagoon Gyeongpo.

  • This study was performed to investigate the myxosporidian parasites from several organs of freshwater fishes caught from Dongjin River, Jeonbuk Province of Korea. Twelve myxosporidian species were dectected from five fish species out of sixteen fish species. From the gall bladder of Opsariichthys uncirostris amurensis, Zschokkella opiocephali was found; from the skin, gall bladder, liver and spleen of Pseudobagrus fulvidraco, Zschokkella opiocephali and Myxobolus cheisini were found; from the gill, skin, gall bladder and kidney of Carassius carassius, Zschokkella ctenopharyngodonis, Chloromyxum koi, Sphaerospora sinensis, Myxosoma abbottinae, Myxobolus koi and Myxobolus suturalis were found; from the kindney of Misgumus anguillicaudatus, Myxidium lieberkuhni, Neomyxobolus ophicephali and Telohanellus misgurni were found; from the gill of Cyprinus carpio, Myxosoma abbottinae and Myxobolus dispar were found. All these parasitized fishes didn't show any specific symptom.
