Propagation Chracteristics of Leaky Coaxial Cable with Periodic Slots (주기적인 슬롯을 갖는 누설동축 케이블의 전파 특성)

  • In indoor radio systems, vehicular communication systems, and land mobile systems, a very important problem is that of maintaing stable communications at all locations. Therefore solutions for the indoor propagation problem are an important aspects of the mobile communication system. Leaky coaxial cables finding increasing use in communications systems involving mines, tunnels, railroads, and highways, and in new obstacle detection, or guided radar, schemes for ground transpor- tation and perimeter surveilance. In this paper a leaky coaxial cable having periodic slots in the outer conductor is described to obtain the propagation modes in the various environments. We use an essentric cylindrical model to develop the theory for surface-wave propagation on the cable. Numerical Results are also included for the propagation constants, field distribution and impedance as functions of various parameters. First, we derive the electromagnetic equation for leaky coaxial cable having periodic slots using mode-matching method and Floguet's theorem, and then find various modes, propagation constants, field distribution, etc.

Correlation between the resistive and the $3^{rd}$ harmonic leakage current of ZnO arresters (ZnO 피뢰기의 저항분 누설전류와 제 3고조파 누설전류의 관계)

  • The resistive leakage current is an important parameter for arrester diagnosis. However, the 3rd harmonic leakage current is more widely used than the resistive one because of its easy measurement. In this paper, we studied the correlation between the resistive and the $3^{rd}$ harmonic leakage current of ZnO arresters. The resistive leakage current was measured according to the IEC 60099-5 in AC applied voltage. The $3^{rd}$ harmonic leakage current was analyzed by using a designed band-pass filter having 180 [Hz]-center frequency and 10 [Hz]-bandwidth. The experimental results show that the $3^{rd}$ harmonic leakage current changes proportionally with the resistive leakage current variation under the maximum continuous operating voltage (MCOV).

Studies on IF noise caused by transmitter signal leakages of the W-band homodyne FMCW radar with a single antenna configuration (단일 안테나를 사용하는 W-대역 호모다인 FMCW 레이더의 누설신호에 의한 IF 잡음에 관한 연구)

  • In this paper, we describe a solution to improve the effects of the transmitter leakage signals on the frequency modulated continuous wave (FMCW) radar with a single antenna configuration. We analyze characteristics of the IF noise caused by insufficient isolation between transmitter and receiver. The magnitude of the intermediate frequency (IF) noise from a front-end can be reduced by matching the LO signal delay time with that of the largest leakage source. Because the IF noise has periodic singularities at nT$_{m}$/2, t=0,1,2$\cdots$, we find that spectrum of the IF noise due to the leakage signals is very similar to that of the VCO moduation signal except low frequency elements in the vicinity of DC. Based on the studies, we fabricated a W-band homodyne FMCW radar sensor and verified the proposed solution. The results are applicable to design of the homodyne FMCW radar with a single antenna configuration.

  • It is of great importance to localize leakages in complex pipelines for assuring their safety. A sensor array that can detect where leakages occur enables us to monitor a wide area with a relatively low cost. Beamforming is a fast and efficient algorithm to estimate where sources are, but it is generally made use of in free field condition. In practice, however, many pipelines are placed in a closed space for the purpose of safety and maintenance. This leads us to take reflected waves into account to the beamforming for interior leakage localization. Beam power distribution of reflected waves in a closed space is formulated, and spatial average is introduced to suppress the effect of reflected waves. Computer simulations and experiments ensure how the proposed method is effective to localize leakage in a closed space for structural health monitoring.

Effect of Window Function for Measurement of Ultrasonic Nonlinear Parameter Using Fast Fourier Transform of Tone-Burst Signal (톤버스트 신호의 퓨리에 변환을 이용한 초음파 비선형 파라미터 측정에서 창함수가 미치는 영향)

  • In ultrasonic nonlinear parameter measurement using the fast Fourier transform(FFT) of tone-burst signals, the side lobe and leakage on spectrum because of finite time and non-periodicity of signals makes it difficult to measure the harmonic magnitudes accurately. The window function made it possible to resolve this problem. In this study, the effect of the Hanning and Turkey window functions on the experimental measurement of nonlinear parameters was analyzed. In addition, the effect of changes in tone burst signal number with changes in the window function on the experimental measurement was analyzed. The result for both window functions were similar and showed that they enabled reliable nonlinear parameter measurement. However, in order to restore original signal amplitude, the amplitude compensation coefficient should be considered for each window function. On a separate note, the larger number of tone bursts was advantageous for stable nonlinear parameter measurement, but this effect was more advantageous in the case of the Hanning window than the Tukey window.

  • Uncertainty and characteristics of the developed current sensor by means of two identically wound magnetic cores forming a ring like for measurement of a low DC current such as leakage current was described in this paper. This transducer consists of a sensor type of a current transformer, peak value detectors, a reference alternating low frequency voltage oscillator, precision measuring circuits to measure the output signals of sensor with harmonics, and can be measured up to 2 A at DC current. The resolution and sensitivity of the sensor were 0.1㎃ and 10㎷/㎃, respectively.

  • The feasibility of Y(z) curve method of scanning acoustic microscope using high frequency transducer was experimentally studied for assessment of the thermal degradation in Co-based superalloy. Thermal degradation was performed to simulate the microstructural changes in Co-based superalloy arising from long term exposure at high temperature. Longitudinal wave velocity measured by pulse echo method using 10MHz transducer and leaky surface acoustic wave (LSAW) velocity measured by V(z) curve method using 200MHE transducer were measured to investigate the effect on thermal degradation. Ultrasonic velocity decreased as the aging time increased in both ultrasonic waves. Moreover, the low frequency longitudinal wave velocity decreased a little. Otherwise, the high frequency LSAW velocity drastically decreased up to a maximum of 4.7% at the aging time of 4,000hours. A good correlation was found between LSAW and Vickers hardness. Consequently, V(z) curve method of SAM using high frequency transducer could be a potential tool for assessing thermal degradation.

  • This Paper Proposes a circuit system that is capable of rejecting the zero phase voltage produced by a inverter, which transform do-ac power using high speed power semiconductor. It generates a rejecting voltage which has the same amplitude as, but the opposite phase to the zero phase voltage. The rejecting voltage is superimposed on the load line for rejecting of the zero phase voltage through a transformer. Simulation results show that the zero phase voltage applied to the load and ground current are eliminated.

  • 본 논문에서는 고밀도 전원 장치에 적합한 플랫 트랜스포머(Flat Transformer)를 사용하여 다양한 출력을 갖는 AC/DC 변환장치의 설계 예를 제시하였다. 기존의 트랜스포머에 비해 플랫 트랜스포머는 다수의 트랜스포머를 병렬로 구성하여 제작하고, 이차 권선이 항상 1턴으로 구성되므로 누설 인덕턴스가 크게 감소하게 되어 고주파 스위칭에 적합한 형태를 가지고 있다. 일차측 AC/DC 변환기는 고조파 규제를 만족시키기 위해 경계 모드 (Boundary Mode)에서 동작하는 역률 보상회로로 구성하여 설계하였으며, 이차측 DC/DC 변환기는 플랫 트랜스포머에 적당한 하프 브리지(Half-Bridge) 컨버터를 적용하였다. 본 논문에서는 500W급 AC/]DC 변환기를 구성하여 다양한 출력을 갖는 전원 장치를 설계/제작하였다.

  • The electromagnetic scattering characteristics by a periodic strip grating on a grounded dielectric slab for TE polarization case is examined from the viewpoints of both the reflection grating and the leaky wave antenna problems. Numerical results for two kinds of Bragg blazing (resonance type and non-resonance type) phenomena are given and some discussions on the properties such as complex propagation constants, scattering characteristics, and distributions of strip current density are presented.
