  • Developmental changes of chlorophyll-protein complexes (CPs) and plastid membrane proteins in greening mung bean cotyledons and the effect of spermine therein were examined by SDS-polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis. The changes in the amounts of CPs became larger with the progress of greening and light-harvesting chlorophyll a/b protein (LHCP) was the main CP in the early greening stage up to f h. As the greening proceeded, chlorophyll-protein of the photosystem I (CPI) accumulated. Application of spermine were effective in accumulating CPs of the thylakoid membrane in the early phase of greening. In the profiles of the plastid membrane proteins, quantitative and qualitative changes were observed with the onset of greening up to 72 h. 56 kD protein of major intensity was observed in all greened chloroplasts and 24 kD protein increased remarkablly in both control and spermine-treated cotyledons. The thylakoids from spermine-treated cotyledons showed hither amounts of thylakoid proteins as compared to the controls. The results suggest that spermine may play a role in the regulation of plastid development and stabilizes the membrane function during greening.

  • This study was carried out to investigate the early growth of revegetation plants by microorganisms in slope of forest road in Jinju area. The results were summarized as follows; The chemical properties of forest soil were changed by microorganisms. Soil pH, organic mater content, concentrations of total nitrogen, available phosphorus, exchangeable cations and CEC in treated plot were increased more than those of controlled plot in the surface soil. It showed that the availability of nutrients including nitrogen and phosphorus was increased by an application of microorganisms in the soil. The coverage rates showed statistically significant differences between plots (p<0.05). The germination rates of woody plants were better in treated plot than in controlled plot. The results indicate that the application of microorganisms would be significantly contributed for the early growth of revegetation plants on slope of forest road.

  • The effects of 0.5 and 1.0 ppm of ozone on the developing chloroplast of barley (Hordeum vulgare L) seedling during greening were investigated by PSI and II activities, chlorophyll fluorescence, and the contents of chlorophyll. Etiolated barley seedling was treated 0.5 and 1.0 ppm ozone for the first 4 h during greening. In 24 h greening experiment, the contents of chlorophyll were decreased by increasing ozone concentration from 0.5 ppm to 1.0 ppm. In 24 h greening experiment, Fo, Fv, Fm and qE were greatly decreased as the concentration of ozone was increased, but those were not considerably decreased in 48 h greening experiment. In another experiment, the developing barley seedling was treated with 0.5 and 1.0 ppm ozone for the last 4 h during greening period, which was 24 h or 48 h. In both experiments the PS II activity was decreased as the concentration of ozone was increased, but not in PS I activity. Fv, Fm and Fv/Fo were also decreased as the concentration of ozone was increased. qP and qR were strikingly decreased as the concentration of ozone was increased in both experiments.iments.

  • DVR(Digital Video Recorder) system stores video inputs in compressed digital formats and retrieve them. DVR system has several advantages over traditional analog tape recorder system which are (1) improved real-time monitoring, recording and searching capability, and (2) other capabilities such as watermarking and remote monitoring through network. AVI format is the most popular format used for DVR systems. However, AVI format has drawbacks in recording and searching due to structural problem. Some vendors develop and use their own format, do not open the format to the public. In this paper, ESP format is proposed. ESP format solves the drawbacks of AVI format, and the advantages of AVI format apply to ESP format. Moreover, ESP format provides multistream recording/replay and event-recording. In result, ESP format enchances functionality of recording and searching in DVR system.

  • This study examined the growth of herb plants in response to irrigation on a green rooftop area in order to select herb plants that can be used for rooftop greening. Apple Mint (Mentha suaveolens), Lemon balm (Melissa officinalis), Spearmint (Mentha spicata), Pineapple sage (Salvia elegans), Choco Mint (Mentha ${\times}$ piperita 'Choco Mint'), Ox-eye Daisy (Chrysanthemum leucanthemum), Roman Chamomile (Anthemis nobilis) and Thyme (Thymus vulgaris) showed increased growth when irrigated. Conversely, Lavender (Lavendula angustifolia ), Peppermint (Mentha ${\times}$ piperita ), Vicks Plant (Plectranthus tomentosa), Feverfew (Tanacetum parthenium), Rosemary (Rosmarinus officinalis), Tansy (Tanacetum vulgare), Lemon Verbena (Aloysia triphylla), Heliotrope (Heliotropium arborescens), Soapwort (Saponaria officinalis) and Lady's mantle (Alchemilla vulgaris) demonstrated satisfactory growth regardless of irrigation. Peppermint, Tansy, Lemon Verbena, Soapwort, and Lady's mantle seem to be suitable for green rooftop because of their overwintering ability and drought hardiness. Pineapple sage, Apple Mint and Thyme would seem to be inappropriate for rooftop greening because they showed negative growth response to drought and failed overwintering. Although Spearmint, Lemon balm, Choco Mint, Ox-eye Daisy and Roman Chamomile had reduced growth during dry conditions, they were able to overwinter satisfactorily and can be used as rooftop plants with irrigation.
