  • The purpose of this study is to provide evidences throught integrative review of non-pharmacological intervention studies for constipation in the elderly in Korea. Through the domestic search engines RISS and KISS, eleven studies were selected by searching for theses and academic journals published in Korea from 2010 to January 2023. According to the study result, relevant studies were 11, and non-pharmacological interventions included abdominal massage, foot massage, acupressure, moxibustion, lifestyle intervention, carbonated water intake, and complex therapy. Constipation, sleep quality, and depression were confirmed as effects of the intervention. However, there is no study confirming the quality of life related to constipation in the elderly, so it is necessary to develop and apply a non-pharmacological intervention program for constipation considering the quality of life of the elderly.

  • This study was conducted to develop a supportive nursing intervention plan for the young-old by identifying the essence and meaning structure of re-employment experience after retirement. Participants of this study were selected by convenience sampling of seven Korean young-old individuals from 60 to 74 years of age who had re-employment experience after retirement in C city. Data were collected from June to August of 2016 based on an in-depth interview and tape-recording. The interview data were analyzed by the phenomenological analysis method developed by Giorgi. The analysis revealed the following constituents; confusion in response to the change of life, recognizing that it is not easy to work again, adaption to new changes, opening a new life. It is becoming increasingly important that nurses, who have played an important role in elderly nursing because of the increase in average life expectancy and overall elderly population, take care of extended tasks throughout the society, away from clinical work. Therefore, a social support system and nursing guidelines necessary for continuous nursing intervention should be provided so that the elderly, including those at early retirement age, can be satisfied with their life after retirement.

  • This study examined the effects of taping therapy on knee pain and depression in older adult women. A nonequivalent control group pre-post design was used. A total of 63 older adult women in the senior welfare center were recruited and assigned to the experimental group (31) or control group (32). Taping therapy was provided to the experimental group three times a week for two weeks. Data were collected before and after the intervention program. The data were analyzed using frequency, percentage, Chi-square test, and t-test with SPSS Statistics Win 21.0 program. Knee pain (t= -9.91, p<0.001) and depression (t= -4.59, p<0.001) were decreased significantly in the experimental group. The results show that taping therapy is an effective nursing intervention for decreasing knee pain and depression in older adult women.

  • This study was conducted to examine the effects of a gerontological nursing clinical practice course using action learning on undergraduate nursing students. The subjects were 75 undergraduate nursing students from Y University. Data were analyzed using SPSS/Win 21.0. There were significant improvements in problem solving (t=3.58, p<.001) and communication (t=4.15, p<.000) in the experimental group compared to the control group. This study provides evidence that gerontological nursing courses improve undergraduate nursing students' problem solving and communication skills. Accordingly, this course would be a useful teaching and learning method in nursing programs of outcome based curriculum.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of flow experience and learning competency on learning satisfaction after virtual simulation-based nursing practice education for the elderly. The subjects of this study were 72 nursing students and data were collected through online surveys from April 2 to May 7, 2021. Data were analyzed using the SPSS/WIN 24.0 program by descriptive statistics, Pearson's correlation, multiple regression analysis. As a result of the study, the learning satisfaction of nursing students after virtual simulation education showed a significant positive correlation with flow experience (r=.656, p<.001) and learning competency (r=.672, p<.001). The most influential factors on learning satisfaction were learning competency (𝛽=.459, p<.001) and flow experience (𝛽=.413, p<.001), and the explanatory power of the model was 60.9%. Therefore, in order to improve learning satisfaction after virtual simulation education, it is suggested to develop ways to promote flow experience in practice and improve individual learning capabilities.

  • This study is a descriptive survey study to investigate the quality of sleep and to compare the factors relating quality of sleep in the young-old people and the old-old people. The subjects of the study were 200 elderly people who live in the G-region applying convenient expression method. Using a structured questionnaire, sociodemographic characteristics, lifestyle and health-related characteristics, depression, and quality of sleep were examined. We analyzed ${\chi}^2-test$, t-test, ANOVA(scheffe's test), Pearson's correlation coefficient and multiple regression using IBM SPSS WIN/21.0. The results of the study were as follows. The quality of sleep was significantly worse in the old-old people than in the young-old people. In young-old people, only depression (r=-.22, p=.038) showed a significant negative correlation with sleep quality. Old-old people was a significant negative correlation between sleep quality and depression (r=-.19, p=.045) and subjective health status (r=-.29, p=.002). In the young-old people, job, chronic illness, and economic level were significant influencing factors in the quality of sleep. In the old-old people, chronic disease, subjective health status, and smoking were significant influencing factors. The results of this study can be used as basic data for establishing tailored strategy for ages that can improve health of the elderly.
