Experiments on Slip Coefficients of High-Strength Bolt Connection with Weathering Steel (II) (내후성강재 고장력볼트 이음부 미끄럼계수 평가 실험 (II))

  • An experimental research to evaluate the slip coefficients of high-strength friction-type bolt connection of weathering steel plate has been performed in this paper. The test specimens with mill scale or shot blast had been exposed in open air during 3 and 6 months and cleaning of rust surface by hand brushing, power tool brushing and no cleaning was considered. The relaxation of bolt clamping force had also been measured during 600 hours. It was found that slip coefficients increased to the value over 0.6 with exposure except mill scale surface by power tool brushing. The relaxation of bolt tension force in exposed specimens also increased and maximum value reached to about 10%.

  • In order to analyze the photodegradation of plastic materials for floats or frames of fisheries facilities, weathering experiment on 3 kinds of plastic materials like high density PE of Korea(KHDPE) and Norway(NHDPE) and high strength PVC(Hi-PVC) was carried out during 900 hours exposure by using xenon light source of weather-Ometer. The results obtained are as follows; With increasing of ultraviolet radiation(UVR) time, a remarkable losses in the mechanical properties of each specimen were observed except for the remaining strain of HDPE materials. As NHDPE lost almost 15% of its initial tensile stress during a 900 hours exposure followed by KHDPE 12% and Hi-PVC 6%. In addition, the remaining tensile stress RS(kg/$mm^2$) decreases almost linearly with the lapse of exposure time to light Y(Year) and the empirical equations of each specimen computed as follows; KHDPE : RS=2.6769-0.0003Y($r^2$=0.63) Hi-PVC : RS=5.3470-0.0003Y($r^2$=0.91) NHDPE : RS=2.4929-0.0004Y($r^2$=0.97) It was observed by scanning electron microscope that all specimens with UVR time had started to decompose and had bubbled areas and small holes.

Bioactivities of Several Functional Hardwood Trees (기능성 활엽수종의 생리활성)

  • Wood of black locust(Robinia pseudoacacia) and bark of poplar(Populus alba x glandulosa), ash(Fraxinus rhynchophylla) and elm(Ulmus davidiana var. japonica) trees were collected, extracted with acetone-$H_2O$(7:3. v/v), fractionated with hexane, chloroform, ethylacetate and $H_2O$. then freeze dried to get some dark brown powder for bioactive tests. Decay-resistant activity was tested using wood block specimens from the hardwood trees and expressed by weight loss rate. Black locust specimens indicated the best anti-decaying property and poplar blocks were the worst. Antimicrobial and antioxidant activities were also investigated against each wood or bark extractives. Antifungal and antibacterial activities did not indicate any significant differences among the tested fractions. In antioxidant activity. ${\alpha}$-tocopherol one of natural antioxidants. and BHT, one of synthetic antioxidants, were used as references to compare with the antioxidant activities of the extracted fractions. Ethylacetate fraction of ash bark indicated the highest activity besides BHT in this test and all fractions of black locust extractives also indicated higher activities compared with the other fractions.

  • 실리콘 고무는 내열성, 내후성, 발수성, 내오염성, 내트래킹성 등이 우수하여 옥외절연물용의 외피 재료로 널리 사용되고 있다. 폴리머 애자에서 전기방전 (코로나, 트래킹 등)에 의한 외피표면의 발수성 저하가 절연물의 장기성능에 있어서 가장 중요한 인자들 중에 하나이다. 실리콘 고무에는 ATH가 다량 첨가되는데 ATH의 첨가량, 표면처리상태, 입도 등에 의해 실리콘 고무의 발수성과 발수성회복 특성은 다르게 나타난다. 본 논문에서는 입도가 다른 2종의 ATH를 선택하여 실리콘 폴리머 대비 ATH의 첨가량을 달리하여 실리콘 고무의 발수성에 관련한 특성을 조사하였다. ATH의 입도 및 코로나 처리시간에 따라서 접촉각의 변화를 관찰하였으며, 코로나 처리 후 경과시간에 따른 발수성의 회복특성을 접촉각의 측정을 통하여 조사하였다.

Examination of Color Difference in Elastic Pavement that uses EPDM Chip using Ultraviolet Ray Accelerated Weathering Test (자외선 촉진 내후성 시험에 의한 EPDM Chip을 사용한 탄성포장의 색차분석)

  • Recently, the usage of elastic paving using EPDM Chip instead of pedestrian sidewalk blocks or permeable concrete used mostly for pedestrian walk, trails and in parks has been increassed as it can absorb impact during walking and produce wide range of colors and designs. However, the properties of EPDM Chip including elasticity and durability are decreased when exposed to ultraviolet ray and scenic paving functions through various colors are lowered due to the yellowing phenomenon. In this study, ultraviolet ray accelerated weathering test has been conducted to analyze the color changes in EPDM Chip and polyurethane resin, which are the main ingredients of elastic paving, when exposed to ultraviolet ray. The color differences are quantitatively analyzed through the color value coordination of the colored space by using the color difference scheme. The experimental results show that the color changes in BL polyurethane resin which is used most frequently at present was larger than that of EPDM Chip. Moreover, the total color difference, ${\Delta}E$, of BC polyurethane resin are 3.162 on the $14^{th}$ day of commencement of acceleration, which is 6 times greater color change resistance against ultraviolet ray than that of BL polyurethane resin with total color difference of 20.639. Therefore, the usage of BC polyurethane resin, which is manufactured to have chain-type molecular structure by using the isocyanate as the HMDI at the time of producing polymer, as binder in elastic paving with EPDM Chip is found to be a highly efficient method of restraining the color changes due to the ultraviolet ray.

Experimental Evaluation of Weathering Performance for Duplex Coating Systems Combining Thermal Spraying Metals and Painting (금속용사와 도장의 복합피복방식법에 대한 실험적 내후성능평가)

  • Painting or thermally sprayed metal coating is often used in corrosion protection of steel structures. In recently, duplex coating system which combines thermally sprayed metals with paint is selected as a new generic type of coatings on steel structures under the highly corrosive environments. In this study, the structural steel specimens were surface treated, thermally sprayed with zinc, zinc-15%aluminum alloy, aluminum and aluminum-5%magnesium alloy, and finally sealing or painted with acrylic urethane. And as a reference specimens, steel specimens were painted with acrylic urethane after surface treatment. Circular defects with 1.0, 3.0 and 5.0 mm in diameters and line defect with 2.0 mm width, which reach the steel substrate were created on all specimens. The specimens were exposed into an environmental testing chamber controlled by the ISO 20340, which is a laboratory cyclic accelerated exposure test condition of spraying/UV/low temperature, for up to 175 days. Based on the corrosion tests, corrosion deterioration from the initial defects were evaluated and weathering performance of the specimens are compared.
