Historical Approach to the Educational Aspirations : The Influence of the Civil Service Examination 'Kwager' to the Family and Society (한국사회의 교육열에 대한 역사적 고찰 -과학시험이 가족.사회에 미친 영향을 중심 으로-)

  • 이 연구는 한국 전통사회의 교육별이 오늘날이 교육열과 어떻게 연관되는가를 규명 하고자 하는 역사적 고찰로서 특히 과거제도가 가족 사회에 끼친 영향을 중심으로 분석하였 다 자료는 관련된 역사자료와 생활자료인 1차사료와 2차사료로 대별되는데 그중에서 여성의 간찰과 구비전승된 규방가사 서사민요, 무가 등과 현장조사에 기반한 민속자료가 주요자료 로 분석되었다, 그리하여 내용분석법과 역사민속학적인 방법에 의하여 밝혀진 연구결과는 다음과 같다. 과거제도의 장악을 통하여 확립된 중앙집권의 관료제와 학문숭상의 전통 그리 고 과거급제를 해야 가능해지는 관리로서의 등용을 주요가치로 지향하였던 출세주의 또 가 족의 영광은 집안남성의 과거급제라는 점에서 여성들이 내면화할 수밖에 없었던 가족주의가 적극적인 교육열의 역사적인 뿌리임을 밝혔다 이러한 전통은 교육기회가 평등해진 현대사회 에 여전히 한국인의 의식 깊숙이 내재되어 있다 그러나 학문숭상의 전통중에서 '수행'을 겸 함 학문을 추구한 사람파의 전통은 단절되고 출세를 목표로 하는 '학벌' 위주의 왜곡된 전통 만이 지속되어 과열된 교육열로 표출된다.

Underlying Values of Real-time Traffic Information on Variable Message Sign Using Contingent Valuation Method(CVM) (조건부가치추정법을 이용한 VMS교통정보의 기본가치 추정연구)

  • In the benefits of ITS, there are intangible gains from real-time traffic information as well as classical gains such as travel time saving. These intangible gains are difficult to be estimated by existing transportation investment appraisal commonly used in SOC investment. The major reason is not because of the absence of methodology but because of the absence of generalized values of particular benefits from real time traffic information. This research explores the value of real-time traffic information on VMS that is the most representative of ITS services, by using CVM with Double Bounded Dichotomous Choice Question. Willingness-To-Pay (WTP) functions of drivers are built with survival functions using various types of probability distribution functions such as Exponential, Log-logistic, and Weibull functions. The results reveal that Log-logistic distribution is the most appropriate distribution model to estimate WTP, and the estimated coefficients are stable through LR (Likelihood Ratio) test. For the further study, it is recommended to perform statistical tests of temporal and spatial transferability that is not examined in this research due to the lack of data.

On the immanent Problems of Liberalism and Hegels Philosophy of Right (자유주의의 내재적 문제와 헤겔의 법철학)

  • The purpose of this article is to demonstrate that Hegel's philosophy of right is a dialectic critique of liberalism. The dialectical criticism in this article does not mean the formal logical denial, but a return to self by self-negation. Thus, if Hegel's philosophy of right is a dialectical critique of liberalism, Hegel's philosophy of right will be critical of liberalism and at the same time, it will not reject liberalism, but rather have aspects of liberalism. The criticism of liberalism implies that individual freedoms and rights can not be realized subjectively through individual free acts, but are realized intersubjectively through social mediums. And this is also found in controversies among modern liberalists because modern liberalism requires the government's role and institutional arrangements for the realization of individual freedoms and rights. We can find the aspects of liberalism in Hegel's philosophy of right since Hegel's ethical life entails ultimately the concrete realization and extension of individual freedom and rights.

Volatilities in the Won-Dollar Exchange Markets and GARCH Option Valuation (원-달러 변동성 및 옵션 모형의 설명력에 대한 고찰)

  • The Korean Won-Dollar exchange markets showed radical price movements in the late 1990s and 2008. Therefore it provides good sources for studying volatility phenomena. Using the GARCH option models, I analysed how the prices of foreign exchange options react volatilities in the foreign exchange spot prices. For this I compared the explanatory power of three option models(Black and Scholes, Duan, Heston and Nandi), using the Won-Dollar OTC option markets data from 2006 to 2013. I estimated the parameters using MLE and calculated the mean square pricing errors. According to the my empirical studies, the pricing errors of Duan, Black and Scholes models are 0.1%. And the pricing errors of the Heston and Nandi model is greatest among the three models. So I would like to recommend using Duan or Black and Scholes model for hedging the foreign exchange risks. Finally, the historical average of spot volatilities is about 14%, so trading the options around 5% may lead to serious losses to sellers.

  • Current situations, such as IMF crisis, WTO agreement and decrease of construction market, demand changes to construction companies. To meet the situation, they focus on the value of the intangible assets to improve their competitive power. In Korea, Various institutes estimate the construction company in accordance with their Purposes. But their estimating method has limitations to know the potential value of the company because they don't much concentrate on characteristics of construction industry and intangible assets. This study was peformed to introduce the methodology of estimating intangible assets of company and to show the state of intangible asset of major construction companies in Korea. Market Capitalization Method(MCM) was used to calculate intangible assets and all data are based on Annual Business Report.

Considerations on the Imaginary Environmental Elements in the Gwanghalu Garden (광한루원(廣寒樓苑)에 내재(內在)된 상상환경요소(想像環境要素) 고찰(考察))

  • The Gwanghalu garden which has a pond of approximately $6,000m^2$ around the pavilion at Namwon City, used as official uses consists of the various imaginary environmental elements such as moon palace as an immortal world, miniatured cosmology and law of nature. This study has focused on the interpretation of the imaginary environmental elements at 1) the name of garden structures, 2) the paintings on the structures, 3) the poems on the garden, and then emphasized on the values of imaginary environments at the historic sites which have been abandoned because of the Westernized scientific attitude in landscape design. Imaginary environment is the 3rd one above the natural and built environment which was a long traditional culture. Accordingly education on landscape architecture might pay attention to this lost environment, imaginary to give the people dream.

A Critical Review of 'Digital Divide' Research: Trend, Shortcomings and Future Directions ('정보격차' 연구에 대한 검토와 미래 연구 방향)

  • The 'digital divide' is regarded as a latent dysfunction that impedes the intrinsic role of information to contribute to social equality. Therefore, it has drawn great attention inside and outside of academia. The growing interest in the digital divide has been driven by the realization that it can create a serious crisis that threatens a social system compounded by existing economic, social, and cultural inequality, rather than being limited to an uneven distribution of information. In this paper (1) studies on the digital divide published since 1970 are reviewed, (2) studies noteworthy of discussion are selected to assess their academic significance, and (3) the tasks and prospects of digital divide research are explored. Although meaningful achievements have been amassed through continuous interest and efforts of the academic community, two limitations are raised; the gap between pure research and policy research that hinders the working of synthetic imagination, and the intellectual lag falling behind a rapidly changing society. In addition, it is suggested that the operation, curation, and augmentation gaps would emerge as new agenda for digital divide research in the intelligent information age.

Understanding Female High School Students' Science-Related Career Choice and it's Change -Focus on the Science Career Cultural Capital Perspective- (일반계 여자고등학교 학생들의 과학관련 진로선택 및 변화 이해 -과학진로 문화자본 관점을 중심으로-)

  • This study seeks to explore high school students' changing attitudes toward science-related career choices with focus on the scientific career cultural capital perspective. We developed a questionnaire and surveyed female high school students. We used the survey results to explore the scientific career cultural capital factors and characteristics of the students who have chosen a science-related career. We selected twelve participants through science-related career choice type and then conducted in-depth interviews with them. Through the in-depth interviews, we explored how the factors of scientific career cultural capital affect the students' career choices. The result shows that the students developed internal resources through norms of obligation and reciprocity within the structure (family, school, community) based on external resources. The internal resources affected their science-related career choice. In elementary school, the students' interests in science and science-related occupations are the most influential in their choice of career directions. In high school, however, the students also considered career cognition, aptitude cognition, and career-value factors in their career choices. The interests in science were formed mainly due to education activity and daily-life activity. Over time, education activity's effect increased. The interests in science-related occupations were formed mainly due to daily-life activity during elementary school. In high school, the interests in science-related occupations formed due to diverse internal and external resources. Students who maintained a science-related career attracted external resources. Furthermore, they reinforced internal resources through interacting with various external resources. This study has implications for science education concerning students' science-related career choices.

Human Rights-based Approach toward International Development Cooperation and Canada's ODA Accountability Act (국제개발협력의 인권적 접근과 캐나다 ODA책무법)

  • Canada became the first OECD/DAC member state that legislated the ODA Accountability Act in 2008, which prescribe Canada ODA policies to meet the guidelines and norms of international human rights while other OECD/DAC member states was just emphasizing the importance of abiding by the international human rights norms. Paying attention to the Canadian case, this article critically examines under what structural environments and process this Act was passed. This article argues that the legislation of the ODA Accountability Act is closely related with Canada's international position as middle power and diplomatic strategies. Bring up the human security issues as a niche market, Canada demonstrates the characteristics of middle power state by emphasizing human rights agenda as new foreign policy strategies. Reflecting on the negative outcomes from neoliberal aid policy of structural adjustment and promoting the new aid norms in post cold war era would also help foster the enabling environment for the value-oriented aid policies and enactment of the Accountability Act. Civil society organizations were also playing catalyst role in constructing Canada's state identity of human rights defender.

When do science lessons appeal to students? - Secondary school students' views on the value of school science and the appealing aspects of science lessons to students - (학생들은 어떤 과학수업에 호응하는가?: 학교 과학에 대한 중고등학생들의 가치 인식과 호응 양상)

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate students' views on the value of school science lessons and the aspects of science lessons that appeal to students. For the investigation, semi-structured in-depth interviews with 16 secondary school students were conducted. The results showed that about half of the participants thought that science lessons are important, but not all students have to learn science. And they considered only intrinsic interest and career hopes as critical elements in judging the necessity of science education for all. To appeal to students: first, science lessons should have relevance to students' career hopes, interest, curiosity, abilities, real life, experiences, and test scores. Second, they should acquire students' understanding. Third, they should include more experiments. Finally, they should be related to real life, reflect students' interest and concerns, and link new things with what students already know in terms of contexts and contents. Students thought that science lessons are not suitable for students who don't desire to pursue a science-related career. This suggests that present science curriculum perceived by students doesn't match well with the idea of science education for all. To overcome this problem, students need to be included in the debate about the relevance of science curriculum.
