  • Fe and Si are common impurity elements in the aluminum alloys. In this investigation, the effects of the addition of Fe and Si on the age-hardening behaviors of the Al-Cu-Mn-Ti-Zr-Cd casting alloys were examined through hardness measurements, calorimetric techniques and observation of the transmission electron microscopy. The addition of Fe depresses the formation of GPII and ${\theta}'$, and thus retards the peak aging time and reduces the peak hardness of the Al-Cu-Mn-Ti-Zr-Cd alloys. On the contrary, the addition of Si accelerates the formation of GPII and ${\theta}'$ and thus accelerates age-hardening behaviors of the Al-Cu-Mn-Ti-Zr-Cd alloys.

  • The effects of additional elements on the mechanical properties of HSLA cast steels such as hardness, tensile strength and charily impact energy have been investigated. Test results showed the mechanical properties of HSLA cast steels were superior to those of C-Mn cast steels. In case of the HSLA cast steels, HSLA cast steels with all addition of Nb, V, and Ti had more excellent tensile strength than those with individual addition of Nb, V, or Ti. The tensile strengths of HSLA cast steels were increased as the Mo contents were increased from 0.25% to 0.5%. These are attributed to the solution hardening and the change of the precipitation kinetics of NbC due to increased Mo contents. The tensile strength of HSLA cast steel was remarkablely increased as the manganese contents were increased from 0.65% to 1.2% and 1.5%, respectively. However, the optimum composition of HSLA cast steels to obtain the best compromise between tensile strength and charily impact energy compared to C-Mn cast steel was the additions of0.1% C and 1.2% Mn.

  • CdSe hollow spheres with the diameter of about 30-50 nm were synthesized after ultrasonic irradiation in the presence of $Cd(NO_3)_2,\;Na_2SeSO_3$, and polyvinylalcohol(PVA). The characteristics of CdSe hollow spheres were analyzed using X-ray diffraction(XRD), transmission electron microscopy(TEM), UV-vis measurement and PL spectrometer. The characteristics of solvent as water and water-1-propanol mixture in the system played important roles on the controlled synthesis of hollow sphere. Based on the observation of morphological difference of CdSe, the possible mechanism of CdSe hollow sphere formation will be discussed.

  • Experiments were carried out to examine early life history, growth and gonadal development of triploid rainbow trout to evaluate their suitability for commercial aquaculture. A high degree ($96.5\%$) of triploid fish was induced when the fertilized eggs were treated with heat shock. Mean embryonic development time of triploids was slightly shorter than diploids and survival rate of triploid at swim-up was $80.2\%$ relative to control. Erythrocytes and their nuclei of triploid were larger in both axes than those of diploid. Triploid rainbow trout showed improved growth relative of diploid after 1 year of age. Histological analysis of the gonads revealed sterility in triploid fish.

  • The hot cracking phenomena and phase behaviors during hot working process of Cu-Ni bearing hot rolled steels were investigated by a $90^{\circ}$bending tests, BSE image analysis and EDS analysis. For aNi-free 1.2% Cu bearing steel, the surface hot cracking occurred about $1100^{\circ}C$ due to a liquid state Cu-enriched phase formed continuously at the interface between oxide scale and matrix. The liquid Cu-enriched phase penetrated into austenite grain boundaries and caused surface cracking during the hot working. In case of 0.6% Ni containing 1.2% Cu-Ni bearing steel, solid state Cu-Ni-riched phase existed at the scale/matrix interface as a discontinuous type. But the higher addition of 1.2% Ni, solid state Ni-Cu-riched phase was formed dominantly in the oxide scale. It was found that the addition of Ni suppressed the surface cracking of 1.2% Cu bearing steel by eliminating the liquid state Cu-enriched phase.

  • The bonding phenomenon and mechanism in the transient liquid phase bonding(TLP Bonding) of directionally solidified Ni base superalloy, GTD-111 was investigated. At the bonding temperature of 1403K, liquid insert metal was eliminated by isothermal solidification which was controlled by the diffusion of B and Si into the base metal and solids in the bonded interlayer grew epitaxially from mating base metal inward the insert metal. The number of grain boundaries formed at the bonded interlayer was corresponded with those of base metal. The liquation of grain boundary and dendrite boundary occurred at 1433K. At the bonding temperature of 1453K which is higher than liquation temperature of grain boundary, liquids of the Insert metal were connected with liquated grain boundaries and compositions in each region mixed mutually. In Joints held for various time at 1453t phases formed at liquated grain boundary far from the interface were similar to those of bonded interlayer. With prolonged holding time, liquid phases decreased gradually and liquids of continuous band shape divided many island shape. But liquid phases did not disappeared after holding for 7.2ks at 1453k. Isothermal solidification process at the bonding temperature which is higher than the liquation temperature of the grain boundary was controlled by diffusion of Ti to be result in liquation than B or Si. in insert metal. • Effect of Sn addition on the stress corrosion cracking(SCC) resistance of the Al-Cu-Mn cast alley was investigated by C-ring teat and electrical conductivity measurement, The electrical conductivity and SCC resistance increased by Sn addition. The alley containing 0,10%Sn showed maximum electrical conductivity and the best SCC resistance. At the same composition, the electrical conductivity and SCC resistance increased from peak aged condition to ever aged condition. The PFZ and coarse precipitates along the grain boundary were observed from TEM micrographs. The fracture mode of the alloy was confirmed as intergranular type and showed brittle fracture surface. The SCC mechanism of the alloy was concluded as the anodic dissolution model, The maximum hardness was increased from 130Hv in the Sn-free alloy to 156Hv in the 0.10%Sn added alloy.

  • In order to reduce the damage of life and property caused by an automobile accident, we should design new car models and safety standard with reference to the data analysis and in-depth investigation of the accident. In-depth research and analysis of the current world other than the police investigation team (GIDAS, iGLAD, NHTSA, etc.) and collect in-depth data. Going to develop a safety policy to make it much safer cars based on this data. However, the country still does not have the advantage of KIDAS data Safety Policy Direction. In KNCAP tests, there is nothing in order to protect far side passengers even if far side impact causes approximately 50% injured people. Based on DBs like KIDAS (Korean In-Depth Accident Study) and GIDAS, far side passengers got injured as much as near side passengers did. So as to protect far side passengers, KNCAP has to change the test method of side crashes. In this study, injury severities to compare with ES-2, World SID and Thor dummies and the movements of far and near side passengers, SLED TEST was used.

  • The change of microstructure in the bonded interlayer and tensile properties of joints were studied for liquid phase diffusion bonding using STS-310 and Incoloy-825 as base metal and base metal+B alloy as insert inetal. Main experimental results obtained in this study are as follows. 1) The optimum amount of B addition into the insert metal was found to be about 4mass%. 2) When isothermal solidification was completed, the microstructure in the bonded interlayer was the same with that of the base metal because of the grain boundary migration in the bonded interlayer. 3) All of the tensile specimen fractured at base metal and joints bonded at optimum condition exhibited tensile properties in excess of base metal requirements. 4) It was determined that fine car-borides and bordes such as M$_{23}$(C,B)$_{6}$, Cr$_{2}$B, and CrB in STS-310S and TiB in Incoloy-825 exist at the grain boundary around bonded interlayer. These precipitates almost disappeared after homogenizing treatment at 1373K for 86.4ks.s.
