  • In this paper, E-polarized electromagnetic scattering by a conducting strip grating with 2 dielectric layers is analyzed to calculate the geometrical reflected and transmitted power by applying the Fourier-Galerkin moment mothed. The induced current density is expanded in a Fourier series using a simple exponential func- tion, and we applied the boundary conditions to the electromagnetic fields at the boundary planes. The sca- ttered electromagnetic fields are expanded in a series of Floquet mode functions. To examine the accuracy of the present method, the geometrically reflected and transmitted power are evaluated and compared with those of the existing papers, and then the numerical results are found in good agreement with those of the existing paper.

  • The pollen of the sediments from the Lake Hane were analysed for reconstruction of vegetation history around Ohda-City in Southwest Japan, and the correlation with the pollen zone reported for the Lake Shinji. From the pollen assemblages of 29 samples from core OH94 (19.7 m), two pollen zone were established, and they were subdivided into five subzones in ascending order as following; Cyclobalanopsis-Catanopsis pollen zone (Cyclobalanopsis subzone, Catanopsis subzone and, Podocarpus subzone), and Gramineae pollen zone (Cryptomeria subzone and Cyclobalanopsis-Quercus subzone). The K-Ah volcanic ash is identified in the Cyclobalanopsis-Catanopsis pollen zone. We estimated the beginning of the Cyclobalanopsis-Catanopsis pollen zone was before c.a. 6,300 BP.

  • The late Quaternary stratigraphy and basal unconformity (nonconformity) of the intertidal deposits (upper tidal flat) in the Banweol tidal basin in the Kyunggi Bay, west coast of Korea has been investigated and established. The Unit I (middle to late Holocene upper intertidal deposit) and Unit II (pre-Holocene fluvial to alluvial deposit) in descending order are classified and interpreted. The basement rocks of the Banweol tidal basin is dominantly preCambrian metamorphic rocks on which Unit II is overlying unconformably. In short, the late Quaternary stratigraphy and unconformity of the Banweol tidal flat deposits are established and interpreted in terms of sedimentology and sea-level fluctuation history during late Quaternary.

  • Many boring investigations were achieved in Youngjong-North tidal flat to construct the Incheon International Airport Expressway. Vertical sedimentary profile of this tidal flat has been studied by analyzing these boring data. The deposits of Youngjong-North tidal flat are about 30 meters thick, and the sedimentary layers consist of basal gravel, lower mud, middle silt, middle mud, and upper silt layers in ascending order. Semi-consolidated and oxidized belt with yellowish brown color, which appears above or within middle mud layer, exists in $-3{\sim}-5$ meters altitude. There are some stratigraphical problems to admit the top surface of this oxidized belt as the unconformity surface between Holocene and Pre-Holocene tidal flat deposit.

  • The fluvia(thalassostatic) terraces have been developed among the lower Yeongsan river, near the southwestern coastal region of Korean peninsula. These thalassostatic terraces could be classified into 3 surface, i. e., Yeongsan 32m, 18m, and 10m surface, in desending order, according to the relative heights from the river floor. Yeongsan 32m, 18m and 10m surfaces were corresponded to the mMT3, mLT1 and mLT2 surfaces of Choi(2003), respectively. It was revealed that the mLT1 surface was the marine terraces which had been formed in the Last Interglacial culmination period(oxygen isotope stage 5e) in the southeastern coast of Korean peninsula.

  • One hundred fifty six pieces of woods were excavated at the muddy sand layer (post-glacial age: about 8,800 bp) above the upper peat layer from Sarori, Chungwongun, Korea in the central Korea. Due to the deteriorated structure of peat woods, all samples were embedded in PEG(polyethylene glycol) 2000 and then sectioned using a rotary microtome. Only two species were found; Alnus spp.(95%) and Ulmus spp.(5%). No conifers were found. Species composition indicates that the climate condition of central Korean peninsula around 8,800 bp was little wetter condition. The sampled region at the Sarori appeared to be a swamp or riverside.

  • A hierarchy is defined as a system wherein its parts are interconnected with one another and the lower levels are constrained by the higher levels to various degrees, depending on the time constraints of the behavior. We illustrate that the concept of hierarchy is identified in the Baekdoodaegan frame, and that the Korean national area was hierarchically divided into many watersheds in many old maps. The Baekdoodaegan and Jeongmack were consistent with the hierarchy of climatic as well as spatial variables. It is evident from an old map that the concept was coined as early as in 1402. A typical configuration of Korean landscape, which was developed in the arrangement of village and surrounding landscape elements situated in a watershed, may be associated with the hierarchical approach to land and culture. Although current practices based on the concept are meaningful, further diverse studies are needed to improve ideas.

  • Results from the most recent decade of Mars' missions to Mars highlight a liquid water and water-ice sculpted landscape. Evidence includes layered sedimentary sequences with weathered outcrops, debris flows, fluvial valleys, alluvial fans, deltas, glacial and periglacial landscapes, and geochemical/mineralogical signatures of aqueous activity, including the formation of sulfates and clays, and the leaching and deposition of elements such as potassium, thorium, and iron. Such evidence indicates weathered zones and possible paleosols in stratigraphic sequences, transport of water and rock materials to sedimentary basins, and the possible formation of extensive transient lakes and possibly transient oceans on Mars. This new evidence is consistent with Viking-era geologic investigations that reported magmatic-driven flooding, ponding to form large water bodies in the northern plains, and transient (tens of thousand of years) hydrological cycles. It may even indicate aqueous activity at present. Both endogenic (magmatic driven) and exogenic (both impact cratering and changes in orbital parameters) have influenced paleohydrologic and environmental change on Mars. Abundance of water and dynamic activity would be decisively important for the possibility of past and present life on Mars.

  • The NDVI(normalized difference vegetation index) dataset is unique or main tool to assess the global, multi seasonal, multi annual, and multi spectral changes over the World. These features are useful for environmental studies in particular, for the vegetation coverage monitoring of the country as Mongolia, where are large pastureland and pastoral animal husbandry, which dependent on natural conditions. Pasture vegetation cover is changing accordingly with both of global climate change and anthropogenic effect or human impacts. Using past 20 years (1982-2001) NDVI derived from NOAA satellite, its dynamical trend has been decreased in all natural zones differently. Also applied the method named "Two Years Differences" which could calculate the number of years with increased or decreased NDVI values at the same place. From May to September have occurred the 9 years maximum decreases of NDVI over Mongolia, but it obtained differently in spatial and temporal scale. In 24.4 ? 32.7% of all territory occurred one year decrease of NDVI and in 18% occurred more than 3 years frequent decrease of NDVI. According to the linear trend of NDVI and in 18% occurred more than 3 years frequent decrease of NDVI dynamics over 69% of whole territory of Mongolia NDVI values had been decreased due to both natural and human induced impacts to the pasture condition. In this paper also included some results of the integrated analyses of NOAA/NDVI and ground truth data over Monglia separately by natural zones.

  • Fu-Shan(傅山, 1607~1684) was a progressive actualist between the late Ming(明) dynasty and the early Qing(淸) dynasty. He regards the intellectuals at that time as scarecrows leaned on the empty and exaggerative moral philosophy which the neo-confucian of Song(宋) dynasty established. He thinks that the neo-confucian discussion cause harmful side effects, disregarding the utility side and the variety of the actual world. His thought becomes known all in political thought and literature. He asserts that the neo-confucian ideas provides the logical frame which regulates the actual world and creates a kind of absolute moral ideology. Therefore he insists that the Saint in the true sense of the word consequently is the social reformer and revolutionist who exposes the irrational elements of society. He insists that literature also must be able to express vividness of the actual world. He thinks that genuine literature must have creative contents and find one's own free wild way. He asserts that old literary style from the mimicry is the act which goes against human natural. He thinks that the writing must be able to express the actual world.
