This study aims to investigate the technical efficiency of major container ports in the Bay of Bengal area and to study how certain factors influence the efficiency of container ports and terminals. The research is conducted on the four main container ports in the Bay of Bengal area, namely, Colombo Port in Sri Lanka, Chennai Port in India, Chittagong Port in Bangladesh, and Yangon Port in Myanmar. There are three input variables (quay length, storage area, and the number of cranes) and two output variables (throughput twenty-foot equivalent units and vessel calls) chosen for the process in this study. This paper evaluates the efficiency score of the defined variables and suggests implications for further improvement of the core competitiveness of the four selected ports. The findings indicate that Colombo Port is the most efficient on a technical scale, followed by Chennai Port, Yangon Port, and Chittagong Port. However, the slack and radial movement calculation results show that the inputs and outputs of the four ports need to be adjusted to be efficient and to reduce the amount of resources that are wasted. The results validate the adaptability of the improved data envelopment analysis algorithm in port efficiency analysis. The research findings provide an overview of the efficiencies of the selected container ports and can potentially affect the port management decisions made by policymakers, terminal operators, and carriers.

As the Internet has grown, energy consumption and GHG emission from internet use have become issues in recent years. On the other hand, such interest in greening the Internet has focused on edge devices, and there is a lack of deeper related studies of the energy wasted by excessive network-connectivity and the savings potential in wired network equipment. This study presents the background and reasonability of studies on the energy efficiency of wired networks in terms of the environment, economy and energy resources. The energy consumption and savings potential of network equipment were also estimated and the major factors of energy consumption was analyzed based on the data, and future studies for the Internet are presented.

It is informed that the Voice over LTE(VoLTE) which serves voice and message on IP networks is better in terms of economies of scale than the legacy voice service on 2G/3G circuit-switched networks because of its technological and cost efficiency. In addition, services of voice and data are running on a single LTE network and as a result VoLTE has the more economies of scope. But, there is no study about how much technology-efficiency VoLTE has compared to circuit-based voice service and how much voice charge can be reduced as VoLTE grows up. This paper analyzes empirically cost-efficiency of VoLTE against circuit-based voice service and quantifies the reduction of voice charge as 2G/3G voice traffic shifts to VoLTE. The results describe the first is that the average cost of the total voice traffic rises shortly just after the investment of LTE network for providing VoLTE but it will soon have a capacity available to reduce the charge due to VoLTE's outstanding cost efficiency on the assumption that voice traffic is fixed, and the second is that the charge can be cut to 60% of the current rate in case of all the voice traffic moves to VoLTE. The latter proves partially the validation of data-focusing pricing plan. Our results are expected to become basic data for network operators' establishing pricing strategies and for policy makers' inducing price cutting.

Drought occurs extensively over a long period and causes great socio-economic damage. Since drought risk consists of social, environmental, physical, and economic factors along with meteorological and hydrological factors, it is important to quantitatively identify their impacts on drought risk. This study investigated the relationship among drought hazard, vulnerability, response capacity, and risk in Chungcheongbuk-do using a structural equation model and evaluated their impacts on drought risk using Bayesian networks. We also performed sensitivity analysis to investigate how the factors change drought risk. Overall results showed that Chungju-si had the highest risk of drought. The risk was calculated as the largest even when the hazard and response capacity were changed. However, when the vulnerability was changed, Eumseong-gun had the greatest risk. The sensitivity analysis showed that Jeungpyeong-gun had the highest sensitivity, and Jecheon-si, Eumseong-gun, and Okcheon-gun had highest individual sensitivities with hazard, vulnerability, and response capacity, respectively. This study concluded that it is possible to identify impact factors on drought risk using regional characteristics, and to prepare appropriate drought countermeasures considering regional drought risk.
The purpose of this study is to empirically analyze the moderating effect of psychological empowerment on the relationship between technostress, the technology acceptance model, and the continuance intention of use. The results of the analyses are as follows: First, IT corporation workers' technostress had a negative effect on perceived ease of use and perceived usefulness. Second, psychological empowerment was found to regulate the relationship between technostress and the technology acceptance model. Third, the perceived ease of use of IT corporation workers had a significant positive effect on the continuance intention of use, and the perceived usefulness had a positive effect on the continuance intention of use. These findings imply that training and education should be continuously conducted to improve psychological empowerment as well as manage technostress.
All countries of the world have been spurring foreign direct investment consistently for securing of economic growth and growth engines, and Korea is no exception. Korea has been stimulating investment of high quality through various political support and the government has been publicizing it as an achievement. Based on the most of previous studies analyzed the results of foreign direct investment only on the view of domestic economy, this study supposes that foreign direct investment influences positively on management and innovation performance on companies, and evaluated effects of foreign direct investment by using Propensity score matching method. Analysis shows that foreign direct investment has positive influence on management and innovation performance before matching them. However, after matching them, the most statistical significance disappears. Consequently, foreign direct investment has limited effect on company's performance comparison on initial assumption. 'This study indicates that incentive policy of foreign direct investment would need to be amended, because effect of incentive policy was limited for firm's performance.

Users of Smartphone in Korea are using the majority of the economically active population over 99% and experts have seen that they have reached saturation after the initial formation stages. The purpose of this study is to investigate the influencing factors of dominant design attributes on the intention of continuous use of Smartphone users. Predictor factors were selected perceived usefulness and perceived ease of use suggested on extended the technology acceptance model. The concept model was completed by selecting the dominant design attribute as a mediator. Participants of this study were 150 Smartphone users in Busan Gyeongnam and Iksan Jeonbuk province in accordance with convenience sampling. IBM SPSS Statistics 19 were employed for descriptive statistics, Smart PLS (partial least squares) was employed for confirmatory factor analysis and path analysis of casual relationship among variables and effect. Analytical results show that all paths of continue usage intention are significant. This study suggests practical and theoretical implications based on the results.
As the strategy to support SMEs' innovation has shifted to induce market-oriented innovation, the Korean government increasingly invests in grant-type R&D projects proposed by SME firms. This study reveals the characteristics of grant-type R&D projects proposed by SME firms through a transition of national R&D strategy and demand-pull innovation perspectives. This study also examines the differences between grant-type R&D projects proposed by firms and R&D projects led by the government through logit-analysis and propensity score matching methods. As a result, we found that a national R&D project for SMEs yields better innovation performance when the project is proposed by a company than led by the government.
This study compares and analyzes the efficiency of R&D activities of technology-innovative small and medium-sized enterprises(SMEs) between industries and proposes ways to improve efficiency. The research samples are 6,708 technology-innovative SMEs, which have received a guarantee by the KIBO from 2008 to 2011. Input variables are the level of R&D personnel, R&D investment, and output variables are patent applications, prototype. Efficiency is measured by the DEA model, and indirect comparisons that are individually measured by industry are performed. As a result of the analysis, the CCR for determining the optimal returns to scale is 0.19, the BCC for determining the optimal input distribution is 0.70, and the SE for determining the optimal output is 0.30. By industry type, the medium and low-tech industries have high CCR and BCC, while the high-end and high-tech industries have high SE. R&D activities need to be operated on an optimal scale through managing R&D performance because there is the inefficiency of scale across the industry. The contribution of the study is to analyze the R&D efficiency of each industry of technology-innovative SMEs by the technology evaluation data of the KIBO.
Logistics has become a key element in a shipping firm's overall strategy, now that the concept of logistics has expanded into one that is more comprehensive and integrated. furthermore, the global shipping market is the most competitive market in the world. In this environment, shipping firms are using Logistics Information Systems (LIS), which help them to save time and reduce costs. As such, LIS has become a critical part of Korea's attempts to develop Its national logistics system and industry. In this light, this study attempted to empirically determine the critical elements necessary for effective shipping LIS implementation and to then analyze how these elements are related to actual logistics performance within the shipping industry. The research results show that the sample firms considered the following factors to be most Important to an effective LIS: the support of top management; an efficient and well-structured communication channel; a solid strategic implementation plan; and a high level of information analysis internally. Other factors mentioned as being somewhat significant included MIS organization and human resources, MIS discipline and training, software development capabilities, MIS organizational alignment, database management systems information standardization, competitive advantage, financial support and government support The main problems with current shipping LIS include the expensive cost of systems, lack of standardized working processes, and weak organizational structures.
