  • The life history and host plants of Locastra muscosalis (Walker) which is a defoliating pest of walnut trees were studied mainly in Chungchongbuk-do province. Juglans nigra Linne, J. mandshurica Mixim., Carya illinoensis koch and Pterocarya stenoptera DC. were found to be new host plants. Locasta muscosalis (Walker) had one generation per year and the adults emerged form late June to late July with a peak emergence around July 10th. Females oviposited a mean of 560 eggs on the top surfaces of leaves. The duration of the egg stage was from 7 to 12 days. Young larvae fed on the leaves within webs that bound the leaves beginning in the middle of July. In the middle of September the fully matured larvae entered the soil -a cm below the soil surface, and the pupal period lasted 16 days on average. The natural enemies observed and/or reared from larvae of pupae were 3 species of parasitoids, 6 species of predators and an unidentified virus.

  • This paper proposes an electronically beam steering array antenna, consisting of single fed active element and 4 parasitic elements, operating in 5.8 GHz ISM band. Beam steering can be achieved by controlling the reactance of the variable reactance control circuit connected to the load of the parasitic elements without using the high cost phase shifters. The proposed antenna realizes ${\pm}30^{\circ}$ beam scanning of E-plane and H-plane with the below -10 dB return loss in ISM band. The gain of the $6.18{\sim}7.53\;dBi$ in E-plane and $7.022{\sim}7.779\;dBi$ in H-plane is shown in the scanning range.

  • In this paper, an analytical model is presented for the source/drain parasitic resistance of FinFET. The parasitic resistance is a important part of a total resistance in FinFET because of current flow through the narrow fin. The model incorporates the contribution of contact and spreading resistances considering three-dimensional current flow. The contact resistance is modeled taking into account the current flow and parallel connection of dividing parts. The spreading resistance is modeled by difference between wide and narrow and using integral. We show excellent agreement between our model and simulation which is conducted by Raphael, 3D numerical field solver. It is possible to improve the accuracy of compact model such as BSIM-CMG using the proposed model.

  • The fish host, Acanthogobius hasta, was sampled monthly (April 1990 to March 1991) from Wando Islands, Korea, and examined for the parasitic Copepod Acanthochondria brevicorpa. Prevalence was positively correlated with fish length; parasitic copepods were only found in fishes > 24 cm TL. distinct seasonal variation in prevalence and intensity of A. brevicorpa infection was observed, although no data were available in April, June and July 1990 when no A. hasta was caught. Averaged over all samples, of the 83 fishes caught, 34.9% were infected with a mean intensity of 3 copepods per host No A. brevicorpa was found on the host between August and October. Ovigerous females of the Copepod were found between February and May, with an abundance peak in May. Young copepodids (Ci to CIII) of A. brevicorpa were not present throughout the year, but only late copepodids of CIV and CV were found on the fish in March and May. Results from the present study suggest that A. brevicorpa mainly produces larvae in spring, and may have a life cycle including additional hosts.

  • Monoclonal antibodies (Ub) against merozoites and sporozoites of the protozoan parasite Cryptosporidium pcnjum were examined for potential modulation of cryptosporidial infections in vivo by daily oral Ub administration to oocyst-inoculated neonatal mice. Monoclonal-treated neonatal mice were sacrified four and eight days post infection (pi) . Differences in infection rates were observed among the treatment groups at the p < 0.05 level. Suckling mice treated daily with orally administered mixtures of mAbs( ascitic fluids) showed significantly reduced parasite loads compared to control mice at flour and eight days pi, while suckling mice receiving mAb Cmg-3 alone showed signiacant differences only at 4 days Pi., suggesting that passive transfer of mAb may be of value in controlling cryptosporidial infections.

  • Thirty five catfish (Silurus asotus) cultured in a fish farm of Jungeup and 222 wild goby (Acanthoguobius flavimanus) caught from the estuary of Mankyoung River, Chonbuk province of Korea were examined the prevalence of myxosporidian infestation. A lot of white spherical myxosporidian cysts in the intestinal epithelium of catfish and the muscle of goby were easily found. The cysts in size were 56 × 73 (42-77 × 59-93 ㎜) in catfish and 2.43 × 0.95 ㎜ in goby. The infection rate (%) were 88.4 in catfish and 89.4 in goby. The Myxosporidians from the intestine of catfish and from the musculature of goby were identified as Myxoborus miyairii and Henneguya tridentigeri on the basis of the shape and structure of the spores under a light microscope. imensions (㎜) of fresh spores of Myxoborus miyairii: length, 11.0-12.0; width, 5.0-6.0; thickness, 3.5-4.0; polar capsule: length, 5.0-5.5; thickness, 1.5-2.0; polar filament: length, 40-45. Dimensions ($\mu{m}$) of fresh spore of Henneguya. tridentigeri: length, 10.0-12.0; width 6.0-8.0; thickness, 4.8; polar capsule: length, 4.6; thickness, 2.6; iodinophilic vacuole: 2.8 × 2.4. No significant pathological change was found from the infected fish. This is the first report on M. miyairii and H. tridentigeri from fish species in Korea.

  • The brown planthopper (BPH), Nilaparuata lugens, is the major pest 01 nce in Asla. Cument control tactics rely pnmalily on chemical ~nsecticides and resistant nce varieties In Korea, the most important biolog~cal conb-ol agent appears to be the naturally-occuning, mermlthid nematode, Agarnermrs unka. Although parasitism of BPH is highly variable from place to place and from year to year. the rnermithid is a promising biological control agent because it reduces the fecundity of the host and ultimately causes its death. The memithid has only one generation per year compared to the three to four generations of BPH, but the mermithid lemales stagger their egg production so that many individuals in all BPH generations are parastized. Augmentation of this rnermithld into BPH populations is only psslble on a limited scale because it is an obligate parasite and mass production technology has yet to be developed. Conservation of naturally-occumng populations through cultural techniques and the use of compatible resistant rice varieties and chemical insecticides may lead to an effective integrated pest management program for BPH.

  • In this paper, we have proposed a printed monopole antenna using parasitic elements. The broadband characteristics of the antenna is obtained by using the printed monopole and parasitic elements. To confirm the broadband characteristics of the antenna, of have designed and fabricated the proposed antenna. The return loss and radiation patterns are measured in the frequency range of$0.8{\sim}1.2\;GHz$. The measured results show that the proposed antenna has return loss less than -10 dB in the operating frequency band and the radiation pattern is the dipole-like patterns. The antenna gain varies from 1.7 to 4.6 dBi in the operating frequency band. Thus, the proposed antenna can be used for the broadband repeater antenna $0.806{\sim}0.960\;GHz$(TRS-800, CDMA and GSM-900).

  • In this paper, we introduce the design consideration of the lightning induced transient protection circuit for the indirect lightning strike on the avionics equipment. The lightning induced surge voltage, which is so-called as indirect effects of lightning, may cause a functional failure or physical damage to the electrical and electronic equipment of aircraft. In order to protect the electrical and electronic equipment of aircraft from the indirect effects of lightning, we should analyze the effect of lightning strike on aircraft and consider applying protection design for each avionics device. However, lightning induced transient protection circuits can have unintended consequences because parasitic inductance elements are exist in PCB and TVS diodes. In this paper, we introduce the design method of the protection circuit considering the parasitic inductance of the protection circuit. In addition, we show the result of verification test performed to validate the protection circuits for indirect effects of lightning.
