Institutionalized Images of Womanhood under the Orde Baru in Indonesia (여성다움의 제도화된 이미지: 인도네시아 신질서 체제하에서)

  • This paper examines the institutionalized images of Indonesian womanhood during the Orde Baru (New Order; 1966-1998). In doing so, it discusses these images as manifested in the Indonesian constitution, governmental organizations such as such as 'Dharma Wanita' and 'Pembinaan Kesejahteraan Keluarga' (PKK), school textbooks and 'Televisi Republik Indonesia' (TVRI) dramas. Under the post-1966 Orde Baru, certain images of womanhood were institutionalized under the influence of the state ideology of womanhood ('ibuism') which emphasizes women's roles in the domestic domain. These institutionalized images were propagated largely by governmental organizations such as 'Dharma Wanita' and 'PKK', and even transmitted through educational text-books and mess media such as TVRI. In conclusion, it also points out that since the mid-1990s, other 'discursive' and 'multi-faceted' contemporary images of womanhood have emerged through the mass media in Indonesian society. Consequently, images of Indonesian womanhood were somehow contested by 2000 and beyond. This paper is expected to develop a detailed discussion on the 'means' and 'contents' of the state ideology of womanhood. Therefore, this paper is expected to add a significant contribution to comprehending the institutionalized images of Indonesian womanhood during the Orde Baru regime.

Research on Deep Learning Performance Improvement for Similar Image Classification (유사 이미지 분류를 위한 딥 러닝 성능 향상 기법 연구)

  • Deep learning in computer vision has made accelerated improvement over a short period but large-scale learning data and computing power are still essential that required time-consuming trial and error tasks are involved to derive an optimal network model. In this study, we propose a similar image classification performance improvement method based on CR (Confusion Rate) that considers only the characteristics of the data itself regardless of network optimization or data reinforcement. The proposed method is a technique that improves the performance of the deep learning model by calculating the CRs for images in a dataset with similar characteristics and reflecting it in the weight of the Loss Function. Also, the CR-based recognition method is advantageous for image identification with high similarity because it enables image recognition in consideration of similarity between classes. As a result of applying the proposed method to the Resnet18 model, it showed a performance improvement of 0.22% in HanDB and 3.38% in Animal-10N. The proposed method is expected to be the basis for artificial intelligence research using noisy labeled data accompanying large-scale learning data.

Automated Bacterial Cell Counting Method in a Droplet Using ImageJ (이미지 분석 프로그램을 이용한 액적 내 세포 계수 방법)

  • Precise counting of cell number stands in important position within clinical and research laboratories. Conventional methods such as hemocytometer, migration/invasion assay, or automated cell counters have limited in analytical time, cost, and accuracy., which needs an alternative way with time-efficient in-situ approach to broaden the application avenue. Here, we present simple coding-based cell counting method using image analysis tool, freely available image software (ImageJ). Firstly, we encapsulated RFP-expressing bacteria in a droplet using microfluidic device and automatically performed fluorescence image-based analysis for the quantification of cell numbers. Also, time-lapse images were captured for tracking the change of cell numbers in a droplet containing different concentrations of antibiotics. This study confirms that our approach is approximately 15 times faster and provides more accurate number of cells in a droplet than the external analysis program method. We envision that it can be used to the development of high-throughput image-based cell counting analysis.

A Generative Design Algorithm to Generate 3D shapes Using 2D Images (2차원 이미지로 3차원 형태를 생성하는 생성적 디자인 알고리듬)

  • In generative design computer automatically and quickly generates many alternative design solutions, and the computer algorithms which perform the design tasks are important. The main purpose of this study is to propose a computer algorithm which generates three-dimensional shapes from a two-dimensional digital image such as a photograph or a painting. The base geometry of the final shape is a cylinder or sphere. A surface of the cylinder or sphere is deformed depending on the used image. The proposed algorithm was implemented as a computer program, and the program tested with several famous paintings. The algorithm and results presented in this study implicate the possibilities of the generative design which generates three-dimensional shapes from two-dimensional images. It is necessary to find and measure the values of the generated shape, and it will be a future research to find the relations of emotional and cognitive aspects between the input images and the generated shapes. Those studies are expected to expand the possibilities of generative design.

  • With the development of artificial intelligence, society is moving to a different world. As a result, amid growing interest in artificial intelligence education, research on how to teach artificial intelligence is also being conducted more actively in Korea. However, a lot of research is being conducted around the upper grades of elementary school, and curriculum and programs for the lower grades are insufficient. Therefore, this study developed an artificial intelligence program for lower grades. Among them, it was developed focusing on artificial intelligence image recognition. It compares image recognition methods of people, animals, and computers, identifies the characteristics of fallen leaves, and helps them understand the image recognition process of artificial intelligence by classifying them according to the characteristics of fallen leaves. I hope this program will help elementary school students understand the image recognition principle of artificial intelligence in the future.

A Study on User Experience through Analysis of the Creative Process of Using Image Generative AI: Focusing on User Agency in Creativity (이미지 생성형 AI의 창작 과정 분석을 통한 사용자 경험 연구: 사용자의 창작 주체감을 중심으로)

  • The advent of image generative AI has made it possible for people who are not experts in art and design to create finished artworks through text input. With the increasing availability of generated images and their impact on the art industry, there is a need for research on how users perceive the process of co-creating with AI. In this study, we conducted an experimental study to investigate the expected and experienced processes of image generative AI creation among general users and to find out which processes affect users' sense of creative agency. The results showed that there was a gap between the expected and experienced creative process, and users tended to perceive a low sense of creative agency. We recommend eight ways that AI can act as an enabler to support users' creative intentions so that they can experience a higher sense of creative agency. This study can contribute to the future development of image-generating AI by considering user-centered creative experiences.

A Study on Makeup Image and Self-Consciousness According to the Level of Expected Socio-Psychological Effect of Makeup (화장의 사회.심리적 기대효과에 따른 화장이미지와 자의식에 관한 연구)

  • This study was made to investigate the differences in Korean woman's perceived makeup image and self-consciousness according to their expectation level in socio-psychological effect of makeup, and to gather information needed for the better understanding of cosmetics consumers and more effective marketing activities of cosmetics industries. Normative-descriptive survey method using questionnaire was employed for the present study. The survey was conducted in August 2001 and the sample consisted of 942 women between the ages of 18 and 50 residing in Seoul and Kyungi province. Data were analyzed by SPSS package. Factor analysis, ANOVA, and MANOVA were employed for the analysis of the data. The results are as follows : (1) Six factors emerged from the data related to the category of expected socio-psychological effect of makeup. Those factors were named as "increasing positiveness", "refreshment", "covering weakness", "self-expression", "consideration for others", and "the tool for self-change". Four factors were found in the category of makeup image, and the factors were named as "refinement", "nobility", "favorable impression ", and "personality ". (2) There was a tendency that those who highly expect the socio-psychological effect of makeup have more positive self-image. Considering this differences in self-image according to the level of expected socio-psychological effect of makeup. service activities for the consumers' positive opinion and attitude to the effect of makeup are needed, and it seems that those service activities will have a good influence on the consumers' emotional health. (3) Subjects with higher level of social anxiety showed higher expectations in refreshment, covering weakness and self-expression. Considering this trend, marketers have to make an constant effort for the variety of cosmetics and makeup manner by which consumers satisfy their expectation in makeup. It seems that the satisfaction of their expectation on the help of makeup effect will contribute to lessen social anxiety, and to get emotional stability. (4) Subjects with higher personal self-anxiety showed higher expectations of the effect. "increase of positiveness".   • The purpose of the study is to analyze the effect relationships among variables focusing on what kinds of characteristics of LOHAS dining space display affect image, trust, satisfaction, and loyalty in hotels, and establish a relationship model. From the survey design and empirical analysis, examining the hypothesis and applying model was analyzed suitable. The results of the study were as follows. First, it was revealed that the LOHAS dining space display has a positive influence on image, trust and satisfaction of hotel. Second, hotel image has a positive influence on customer trust and loyalty. In addition, customer trust has positive impact on customer trust and loyalty. From the results of this investigation, it was found that LOHAS dining space display affects hotel image, trust and satisfaction, and that the customer satisfaction was positively influential on loyalty. As a result, all hypotheses were partly supported. Overall, when LOHAS dining space display was stressed, it affected image, trust, satisfaction, and loyalty in hotels. It was also verified that LOHAS dining space display affects hotel image, trust and satisfaction. Moreover, it was also confirmed that the higher LOHAS dining space display is, the higher hotel image, trust, satisfaction and loyalty will be, thereby improving the service quality provided by employees.

A Study on the Visual Style of Animation Documentary Genre (애니메이션 다큐멘터리의 시각적 스타일에 관한 연구)

  • Animation documentary is a hybrid genre that is newly highlighted with opposite properties. The actual world is reproduced with an unrealistic method in documentary aspect, but the objectivity of documentaries cannot be guaranteed as the boundary of actual pictures and digital images has become ambiguous. As the animation documentary by Ari Folman succeeded in 2008, the focus of this study is on 'how can fictional animations prove the authenticity of documentaries?' in which the study is mainly conducted in documentary aspect. For this, the researcher considers visual style research has important role in understanding and developing a new video genre, and asserts the necessity of research on reproduction image that is produced by the characteristics of animation which is produced in frame units. This paper has contents on the visual style of animation documentaries with pictorial reproduction methods in which animation images were classified into 3 styles based on previous research on animation documentary style. Visual styles are classified into actual image that is based on similarity with reality to deliver objective facts, image that is transformed through emphasis and omission which are factors of animations, and surrealistic image that reproduces non-visual regions such as illusions and the inner side of characters. Through this study that analyzes visual style types and characteristics, animation documentaries are expected to position as a hybrid genre that illustrates reality with a new method instead of being included in the existing reproduction method of documentaries.

A Study on the Aesthetic Characteristics of the Digital Rotoscoping Images in Jonas Odell's Animations (요나스 오델(Jonas Odell)의 작품 세계에 나타난 디지털 로토스코핑 이미지의 특성)

  • Although Rotoscoping technique has been used for a long time to mimic the natural and smooth motion since the early 20th century, its artistic value was devalued as tricks because it traces the already recorded images. But the fact that the rotoscoping images can cross the boundaries between animation and live action in an infinite integral freedom in the digital era became rather expansive new aesthetic possibilities of representation of the reality. In addition, Jonas Odell's animations such as (2010), (2008), (2006) are good example to prove that the rotoscoping images also can serve as means to enhance its narrative. This study is to analyze how rotoscoping images act as a unique role in relation with the narrative based on the said person's real stories and realistic images. I argue that his animated films constantly contain these three characteristics -Images to mediate Auditory sensitivity as a record of inner metaphysical reality, anonymous images to represent a specific existential character, and images that act as physical representation that holds the physical space/time and related memory. This reveals that rotoscoping images in this digital era went beyond reproduction for natural movements or special type of style. It rather suggests new layers of experience, and acquires new value in animation. I hope that this study could serve as a foundation to rediscover and re-position the value of rotoscoping images as well as good opportunity to introduce very talented swedish animation artist who already received global attention with his unique philosophical and aesthetic style.
